Nobel-díj:1973Egyetemi Tanulmányit Tokióban végezte. Doktori
dolgozata a Sony cégnél, 1957-ben folytatott kísérleti
munkájának a feldolgozása és értékelése volt. Ez az
erősen adalékolt germánium p-n átmenetében létrehozott
alagúteffektusról szólt. Ezek az eredmények alapozták
meg az „alagútdióda” létrejöttét.
A megosztott Nobel díjat:
„a félvezetőkben lévő alagút-jelenségekkel
kapcsolatos kísérleti felfedezésekért”kapta 1973-ban.
Partnerei (I.Giaever és B.D.Josephson)a szupravezetőkben zajló alagúteffektusokkal kapcsolatos
kísérleti és elméleti munkát végeztek. Walter Hermann

The light absorption and emission, the two-lewel system
Bohr-model:
absorption emission
In the process of spontaneous
emission an electron
"spontaneously” (i.e. without
any outside influence) decays
from a higher energy level
to a lower one.
Absorption is the process
by which a photon is absorbed
by the atom, causing an
electron to jump from a lower
energy level to a higher one.

the stimulated emission the induced photon
has the same frequency and phase as the

The population inversion is required for laser
operation, but it cannot be achieved by the
group of atoms with two energy-levels when
they are in thermal equilibrium.
To achieve non-equilibrium conditions, an
indirect method of populating the excited

”The Nobel Prize for physics is in
