II. Installation and Operating Instructions
WARNING
1. This icemaker must be installed in accordance with applicable national, state,and local codes and regulations.
2. CHOKING HAZARD: Ensure all components, asteners, and thumbscrews
are securely in place ater installation. Make sure that none have allen intothe storage bin.
A. Checks Beore Installation
Visuallyinspecttheexterioroftheshippingcontainerandimmediatelyreportanydamage to the carrier. Upon opening the container, any concealed damage should alsobe immediately reported to the carrier.
Removetheshippingcarton,tape,andpackingmaterial.Ifanyareleftintheicemaker,it will not work properly.
Removethepanelstopreventdamagewheninstallingtheicemaker.See"II.B.Howto
RemovePanels."
Removethepackagecontainingtheaccessories.
Removetheprotectiveplasticlmfromthepanels.Iftheicemakerisexposedtothesunor to heat, remove the lm ater the icemaker cools.
Checkthattherefrigerantlinesdonotrubortouchlinesorothersurfaces,andthatthean blade (i applicable) turns reely.
Checkthatthecompressorissnugonallmountingpads.
Seethenameplateontherearpanel,andcheckthatyourvoltagesuppliedcorrespondswith the voltage specied on the nameplate.
Thisicemakercanbeinstalledonastoragebin48"wideorwider.Therecommendedstorage bin is Hoshizaki Ice Storage Bin, Model B-800 series. For urther options,contact your local Hoshizaki distributor.
Onremoteair-cooledmodel,aremotecondenserunitisneeded.HoshizakiRemoteCondenser Unit, Model URC-21F or URC-22F is recommended.
B. How to Remove PanelsSee Fig. 1

pull towards you.TopPanel:Removethescrews,thenliftoff.
SidePanel(R):Removethescrew.Slideorward slightly and lit o.

C. Location
CAUTION
1. This icemaker is not intended or outdoor use. Normal operating ambienttemperature should be within 45F to 100F (7C to 38C); Normal operatingwater temperature should be within 45F to 90F (7C to 32C). Operation
o the icemaker, or extended periods, outside o these normal temperatureranges may aect icemaker perormance.
2. This icemaker will not work at sub-reezing temperatures. To prevent damageto the water supply line, drain the icemaker i the air temperature is going to
gobelow32F(0C).See"III.C.PreparingtheIcemakerforLongStorage."
For best operating results:
Icemakershouldnotbelocatednexttoovens,grills,orotherhighheatproducingequipment.
Locationshouldprovidearm,levelfoundationfortheequipment.
Allow6"(15cm)clearanceatrear,sides,andtopforproperaircirculationandeaseofmaintenance and/or service should they be required.
D. Setup
CAUTIONBeore operating the icemaker, the bin control thermostat assembly must beinstalled correctly. Failure to properly install the assembly could result in ice
backup and unit damage.
1) Unpack the storage bin, then attach the 4 adjustable legs provided (bin accessory) to
the bottom o the storage bin.
2) Position the storage bin in the selected permanent location.
3) Place the icemaker on top o the storage bin.
4) Secure the icemaker to the storage binusing the 2 mounting brackets and thebolts provided. See Fig. 2.
5) Level the icemaker/storage bin in both thelet-to-right and ront-to-rear directions.Adjust the storage bin legs to make the
icemaker level.

6) Install the bin control thermostat as ollows:a. Remove the bale rom the storage bin.b. Remove the tie securing the bin control thermostat assembly. Remove the
2thumbscrewsandthe"Z"bracket.c. Remove the bin control thermostat assembly rom the shipping hook by liting it up
and shiting it to the right. Lower the thermostat extension bracket (stainless) withthe thermostat bulb attachment and thermostat bulb through the hole located at thebottom o the icemaker. Next, lower the thermostat bracket (plastic) through the hole.See Fig. 3.

d. Slide the let side o the upper part o the assembly towards you and make sure itis hooked on the wall. Make sure the let side and bottom o the assembly are fushagainst the wall and base panel.
e. Secure the assembly in place with the thumbscrews (unless you are installing anupperunit).(See"II.E.InstallationofUpperUnit.")
. Insert the plug into the receptacle on the assembly until it locks into place. See Fig. 3.
I a Hoshizaki B-800, B-900, or B-1150 storage bin is used:g.Putasidethe"Z"bracket;itisnotneededwiththestoragebinslistedabove.h. Remove the 2 screws rom the lower part o the thermostat bracket (plastic) and use
them to attach the thermostat extension bracket (stainless) to the thermostat bracket(plastic). See Fig. 4.

I a Hoshizaki B-1300, B-1500, B-1650, or non-Hoshizaki storage bin is used:g. Remove the 2 screws securing the thermostat bulb attachment (plastic) to the
thermostatextensionbracket(stainless).Usethe2screwstoattachthe"Z"bracket(plastic) to the thermostat extension bracket (stainless).
h. Use the two 410 stainless steel screws in the accessory bag to attach thethermostatbulbattachment(withattachedthermostatbulb)tothe"Z"bracket.
i. Remove the 2 screws rom the lower part o the thermostat bracket (plastic) and usethem to attach the thermostat extension bracket (stainless) to the thermostat bracket
(plastic). See Fig. 5.
7) Replace the panels and bale in their correct positions (unless you are installing anupperunit).(See"E.InstallationofUpperUnit").Note: The bin control thermostat must be checked or proper operation at startup.
E. Installation o Upper Unit
1)See"II.D.Setup"forthelowerunitinstallation.
2) Remove the top panel and the top
insulation o the lower unit. These piecesmust be removed when installing an upper
unit.
3) Unpack the upper unit, and removethe shipping carton, tape, and packingmaterial.
4) Remove the panels o the upper unit.
5) Stack the upper unit on top o the lowerunit.
6) Secure the upper unit to the lower unitusing the 2 mounting brackets and the
bolts provided. See Fig. 6.
7) Remove the thermostat bulb attachment(plastic) o the upper unit rom thethermostat extension bracket (stainless).

8) Careully remove the thermostat bulb rom the thermostat bulb attachment (plastic) othe upper unit.
9) Careully route the thermostat bulb and capillary tubing o the upper unit through thebottom hole o the upper unit. Remove the bushing rom the lower bin control thermostatassembly. Route the bulb and tubing through the hole in the assembly and down intothe storage bin. Reattach the bushing.
10) Secure the lower bin control thermostat assembly in place with the thumbscrews.
11) Careully insert the thermostat bulb back into the thermostat bulb attachment (plastic).
12) Secure the thermostat bulb attachment (plastic) o the upper unit to the thermostat bulb
attachment (plastic) o the lower unit with the screws o the upper unit. See Fig. 7.
13) Insert the plug o the upper unit into the receptacle o the upper unit's bin controlthermostat assembly until it locks into place.
14) Replace the panels and bale in their correct positions.

F. Electrical Connection
WARNING
For All Models
1. Electrical connection must be hard-wired and must meet national, state, andlocal electrical code requirements. Failure to meet these code requirements

G. Installation o Remote Condenser Unit
WARNING
1. Installation o the remote condenser unit must be perormed by properlytrained and EPA-certied service personnel.

national, state, and local codes and regulations.3. Failure to install the equipment within these guidelines may adversely aect

1. Checks Beore Installation
1) Remove the shipping carton, tape, and packing material.
2) Check that the rerigerant lines do not rub or touch lines or other suraces, and that thean blades move reely.
2. Location
CAUTIONThe remote condenser unit is intended or outdoor use. Normal operatingambient temperature should be within -20F to +122F (-29C to +50C).Operation o the remote condenser unit, or extended periods, outside o thisnormal temperature range may aect icemaker perormance.
The remote condenser unit must be positioned in a permanent site under the ollowingguidelines:

4. Line Set

a) Factory Line Set Installation
1)Routethefactorylineset(5/8"ODdischargelineand3/8"ODliquidline)fromtheremote condenser unit to the icemaker. Leave a service loop behind the icemaker toallow the icemaker to be pulled out or service. See Fig. 12. Factory abricated line setsare precharged and do not need to be evacuated. I the line set is too long or too short,see"II.G.4.a)(1)FactoryLineSetModication."Note: The service loop is not considered an oil trap.
CAUTION
1. Ensure that there are no traps and no kinks in the line set.
2. Do not coil extra line set.
2) Connect the rerigerant lines to the appropriate male ttings on the remote condenserunit rst and then at the icemaker. Make a proper connection as ollows:
a. Remove the protective covers rom the male tting and emale coupling.
b. Apply Polyol Ester (POE) rerigerant oil or Parker Super O Lube to the entire maletting, including O-ring, diaphragm, and threads beore making the connection.See Fig. 13.
CAUTIONDo not use thread sealant on the ttings. Use POE rerigerant oil or Parker
Super O Lube only.
c. Make sure the male tting and emale coupling are properly aligned, then start theconnection by hand to ensure that it is not cross threaded.
3. Setup
1) Secure the legs to the remotecondenser unit with the 8 bolts andnuts provided. See Fig. 11.
2) The legs have 8 mounting holes. Securethe legs with 8 bolts (not included).

d. Tighten the connection with a wrench until it is tight. At this point, the nut hascovered most o the threads on the male tting.
e. Mark a reerence line on the emale coupling and the remote condenser unit oricemaker panel. Using a backup wrench on the back o the emale coupling, tightenthe six-sided nut o the emale coupling an additional 1/6 turn. See Fig. 14.

(1) Factory Line Set Modifcation
1) Recover the line set charge through the Schrader access ports on the Parker quickconnect couplings and store it in an approved container. Do not discharge thererigerant into the atmosphere. Remove the extra line set length or add extra tubing.When adding extra tubing, insulate the additional copper tubes separately. Braze the
connections.
2) Use an electronic leak detector or soap bubbles to check or leaks. Add a trace
o rerigerant to the lines through the Schrader access ports on the Parker quickconnect couplings (i using an electronic leak detector), and then raise the pressureusing nitrogen gas (140 PSIG). WARNING! DO NOT use R-404A as a mixture withpressurized air or leak testing.
3) Evacuate through the Schrader access ports on the Parker quick connect couplings andcharge with R-404A rerigerant vapor to a pressure o 15 to 30 PSIG. Go to step 2 in"II.G.4.a)FactoryLineSetInstallation."
b) Field Fabricated Line Set Installation

between the remote condenser unit and the icemaker. Leave a service loop behind theicemaker to allow the icemaker to be pulled out or service. See Fig. 12.Note: The service loop is not considered an oil trap.
CAUTION

2) Insulate the two copper tubes separately.
3) Install Parker quick connect couplings on each end. OS-QUICK, a universal quickconnect coupling kit available as optional equipment rom Hoshizaki America, isrecommended. CAUTION! Beore brazing, remove the Schrader valve core rom the
access port. When brazing, protect the coupling by using a wet cloth to preventthe coupling rom overheating. Do not use silver alloy or copper alloy containingarsenic.
4) Allow the coupling to cool, then replace the Schrader valve core.
5) Use an electronic leak detector or soap bubbles to check or leaks. Add a trace
o rerigerant to the lines through the Schrader access ports on the Parker quickconnect couplings (i using an electronic leak detector), and then raise the pressureusing nitrogen gas (140 PSIG). WARNING! DO NOT use R-404A as a mixture withpressurized air or leak testing.

5. Rerigerant Charge (Line Set Exceeding 66 Feet)
CAUTIONThe icemaker, line set, and remote condenser unit must contain the sametype o rerigerant. Mixing o rerigerants will result in improper operation andpossible damage to the rerigeration system.
The maximum line length or the standard rerigerant charge is 66 eet. Should aninstallation require a longer line length, additional rerigerant must be added. Add 0.4 oz. oR-404A or each oot over 66 eet to a maximum o 100 eet. Hoshizaki Technical Support isavailable at 1-800-233-1940 or recommendations.
Afterweighingintheadditionalcharge,marktheunitsnameplatetoshowthenewcorrecttotal rerigerant charge.
6. Electrical Connection

source. Do not connect the an motor leads in the icemaker together. Do notallow the leads to contact the junction box walls.
5. Do not connect the remote condenser unit to an external power source.
6. To reduce the risk o electric shock, make all remote condenser unitconnections beore connecting the icemaker power supply.
7. The icemaker should have power or a minimum o 4 hours prior to startup toprevent compressor damage.

1) Remove the louver panel. See Fig. 15.
2) Remove the junction box cover on the remote condenser unit. Remove the an motorjunction box cover on the icemaker.
3) Install a ground wire rom the icemaker to the remote condenser unit. Use wire o an
appropriate gage and outdoor rating.
4) Install line and neutral wires rom the an motor leads in the icemaker to the leads inthe remote condenser unit junction box. Use wire o an appropriate gage and outdoorrating.
5) Replace the junction box covers and the louver panel in their correct positions.
7. Stacking Condenser Unit
1) Install the lower remote condenser unit as described earlier in this section.
2) Place the upper remote condenser unit on top o the lower. See Fig. 16.3) Secure the upper remote condenser unit to the lower remote condenser unit with the
4 screws provided.
4) Install rerigerant lines and make electrical connection as described earlier in thissection.

I. Final Checklist
WARNINGCHOKING HAZARD: Ensure all components, asteners, and thumbscrewsare securely in place ater installation. Make sure that none have allen into the
storage bin.

2) Is the icemaker in a site where the ambient temperature is within 45F to 100F (7C to38C) and the water temperature within 45F to 90F (7C to 32C) all year around?

4) Have the shipping carton, tape, and packing material been removed rom the icemaker?Are the cube guides in their correct positions? Are the separators between the

8) Are the water supply line shut-o valve(s) and drain valve(s) installed? Has the water
supply pressure been checked to ensure a minimum o 10 PSIG and a maximum o113 PSIG?Note: The icemaker may stop running when the water supply is o, or i the pressure
is below 10 PSIG. When the proper water pressure is reached, the icemakerautomatically starts running again.
9) Are the compressor hold-down bolts snug? Have the rerigerant lines been checked
to make sure they do not rub or touch other lines or suraces? Have the an blades (iapplicable) been checked to make sure they turn reely?
10) On remote air-cooled model, is the line set tightened and ree o leaks and kinks?
11) On remote air-cooled model, has the icemaker power supply been on or a minimum o4 hours?
12) Has the end user been given the instruction manual, and instructed on how to operatethe icemaker and the importance o the recommended periodic maintenance?

J. Startup
WARNING
1. All parts are actory-adjusted. Improper adjustments may adversely aectsaety, perormance, component lie, and warranty coverage.
2. I the icemaker is turned o, wait or at least 3 minutes beore restarting the
icemaker to prevent damage to the compressor.3. To prevent damage to the water pump, do not leave the control switch in the
"WASH"positionforextendedperiodsoftimewhenthewatertankisempty.
4. On remote air-cooled model, the icemaker should have power or a minimumo 4 hours prior to startup to prevent compressor damage.
5. At startup, conrm that all internal and external connections are ree o leaks.

3)Movethecontrolswitchonthecontrolboxtothe"ICE"position.
4) Replace the ront panel in its correct position.
5) Turn on the power supply, and allow the icemaker to operate or a total o 10 minutes.
6) Turn o the power supply, then remove the ront panel.
7) Remove the insulation panel. Remove the cap located on the ront bottom part o theice dropping hole. See Fig. 20. Allow the water tank to drain.
8) Replace the cap, insulation panel, and ront panel in their correct positions. Be careulnot to cross thread the cap.
9) Clean the storage bin using a neutral cleaner. Rinse thoroughly ater cleaning.
10) Turn on the power supply to start the automatic icemaking process.
11) When the icemaker is running, hold an ice cube in contact with the bulb. The icemakershould stop within 10 seconds. Adjustment may be needed, particularly at higheraltitude locations.
12) On water-cooled units, conrm proper condenser drain outlet/return outlet temperatureasoutlinedin"II.H.2.Water-CooledCondenser."

III. Cleaning and Maintenance
IMPORTANTEnsure all components, asteners, and thumbscrews are securely in place aterany cleaning or maintenance is done to the equipment.
A. Cleaning and Sanitizing InstructionsHoshizaki recommends cleaning this icemaker at least once a year. More requentcleaning, however, may be required in some existing water conditions.
WARNING
1. To prevent injury to individuals and damage to the icemaker, do not useammonia type cleaners.
2. Always wear liquid-proo gloves to prevent the cleaning and sanitizingsolutions rom coming into contact with skin.
3. Careully ollow any instructions provided with the bottles o cleaning andsanitizing solution.
4. Never run the icemaker when the water tank is empty.
IMPORTANT
1. The cleaning valve is used to allow solution fow to the inside o theevaporator during the cleaning and sanitizing operation. It should be closedor all icemaking operation. The compressor will not operate unless this valve
is completely closed.
2. To open the cleaning valve, the valve handle should be parallel to the valvebody. To close the valve, the valve handle should be at a right angle to thevalve body.

1. Cleaning Procedure
1)Dilute38.oz.(1,124ml)ofHoshizaki"ScaleAway"with7gal.(26l)ofwarmwater.
2) Remove all ice rom the evaporator and the storage bin.Note: To remove cubes on the evaporator, turn o the power supply and turn it on
ater 3 minutes. The harvest cycle starts and the cubes will be removed rom theevaporator.
3) Turn o the power supply.
4) Remove the ront panel, and then remove the insulation panel by rst removing thethumbscrew, liting up the panel slightly and pulling it towards you.
5) Remove the cap located on the ront bottom part o the ice dropping hole. Drain thewater tank. See Fig. 20.
6) Replace the cap in its correct position. Be careul not to cross thread it.
7) In bad or severe water conditions, clean the foat switch assembly as described below.Otherwise, continue to step 8.
a. Disconnect the vent tube and the fush tube rom the top o the foat switch, thenremove the foat switch assembly rom the mounting bracket and remove the rubberboot rom the bottom o the assembly.
b. Remove the retainer rod rom the bottom o the foat switch assembly, then removethe foat. Be careul not to bend the retainer rod excessively when removing it.
c. Wipe down the foat switch assembly's housing, shat, foat, and retainer rod with
cleaning solution. Clean the inside o the rubber boot and hose with cleaningsolution. Rinse the parts thoroughly with clean water.
d. Reassemble the foat switch assembly and replace it and the rubber boot in theircorrect positions. Reconnect the vent tube and the fush tube.
8) Pour the cleaning solution into the water tank.
9) Fully open the cleaning valve on the let side wall o the machine compartment.
10)Movethecontrolswitchonthecontrolboxtothe"WASH"position.
11) Replace the insulation panel and the ront panel in their correct positions.
12) Turn on the power supply to start the washing process.
13) Turn o the power supply ater 30 minutes.
14) Remove the ront panel and the insulation panel.
15) Remove the cap located on the ront bottom part o the ice dropping hole. Drain thewater tank. Replace the cap and the insulation panel in their correct positions.
16)Movethecontrolswitchtothe"ICE"position.
17) Close the cleaning valve.
Note: The icemaker will not operate unless the cleaning valve is completely closed.
18) Replace the ront panel in its correct position.
19) Turn on the power supply to ll the water tank with water.
20) Turn o the power supply ater 3 minutes.21) Remove the ront panel and ully open the cleaning valve.

2. Sanitizing Procedure - Following Cleaning Procedure
1)Dilute3.5.oz.(104mlor7tbs)ofa5.25%sodiumhypochloritesolution(chlorinebleach) with 7 gal. (26 l) o warm water.
2) Pour the sanitizing solution into the water tank.
3) Replace the insulation panel and the ront panel in their correct positions.Note:Makesurethatthecontrolswitchisinthe"WASH"positionandthecleaningvalve
is open.
4) Turn on the power supply to start the sanitizing process.
5) Turn o the power supply ater 15 minutes.
6) Remove the ront panel and the insulation panel.
7) Remove the cap located on the ront bottom part o the ice dropping hole. Drain thewater tank. Replace the cap and the insulation panel in their correct positions.
8)Repeatsteps16through27in"1.CleaningProcedure"twotimestorinsethoroughly.
9) Close the cleaning valve.
10)Movethecontrolswitchtothe"ICE"position.
11) Replace the ront panel in its correct position.
12) Clean the storage bin using a neutral cleaner. Rinse thoroughly ater cleaning.
13) Turn on the power supply to start the automatic icemaking process.

B. Maintenance Instructions
IMPORTANTThis icemaker must be maintained individually, reerring to the instructionmanual and labels provided with the icemaker.
1. Stainless Steel ExteriorTo prevent corrosion, wipe the exterior occasionally with a clean, sot cloth. Use a dampcloth containing a neutral cleaner to wipe o oil or dirt build up.
2. Storage Bin and Scoop
Washyourhandsbeforeremovingice.Usetheplasticscoopprovided(binaccessory).
Thestoragebinisforiceuseonly.Donotstoreanythingelseinthestoragebin.
Cleanthescoopandstoragebinlinerusinganeutralcleaner.Rinsethoroughlyaftercleaning.
3. Condenser (air-cooled and remote air-cooled model)Check the condenser once a year, and clean the coil i required by using a brush orvacuum cleaner. More requent cleaning may be required depending on location.
C. Preparing the Icemaker or Long Storage
CAUTION
1. When storing the icemaker or an extended time or in sub-reezingtemperatures, ollow the instructions below to prevent damage.
2. To prevent damage to the water pump seal, do not operate the icemaker withthecontrolswitchinthe"WASH"positionwhenthewatertankisempty.
When the icemaker is not used or two or three days under normal conditions, it issufficienttomovethecontrolswitchtothe"OFF"position.Whenstoringtheicemakerforan extended time or in sub-reezing temperatures, ollow the instructions below.
1. Remove the water rom the icemaker water supply line:
1) Turn o the power supply, then remove the ront panel.
2)Movethecontrolswitchonthecontrolboxtothe"OFF"position.
3) Close the icemaker water supply line shut-o valve, then open the icemaker watersupply line drain valve.
4) Allow the line to drain by gravity.
5) Attach a compressed air or carbon dioxide supply to the icemaker water supply linedrain valve.
6)Movethecontrolswitchtothe"ICE"position.
7) Replace the ront panel in its correct position, then turn on the power supply.
8) Blow the icemaker water supply line out using the compressed air or carbon dioxidesupply.
9) Close the icemaker water supply line drain valve.

2. Drain the water tank:
1) Turn o the power supply, then remove the ront panel. Move the control switch to the"OFF"position.
2) Remove the insulation panel. Remove the cap located on the ront bottom part o the icedropping hole. See Fig. 20. Allow the water tank to drain.
3) Replace the cap and the insulation panel in their correct positions. Be careul not tocross thread the cap.
4) Remove all ice rom the storage bin. Clean the storage bin using a neutral cleaner.
Rinse thoroughly ater cleaning.
5) Replace the ront panel in its correct position.
3. On water-cooled model only, frst remove the water rom the water-cooled
condenser:
1) Make sure the power supply is o, then remove the ront panel and right side panel.
2) Close the condenser water supply line shut-o valve. I connected to a closed loop
system, also close the condenser return line shut-o valve.3) Open the condenser water supply line drain valve. I connected to a closed loop system,
also open the condenser return line drain valve.
4) Attach a compressed air or carbon dioxide supply to the condenser water supply linedrain valve.
5) Open the water regulating valve by using a screwdriver to pry up on the spring retainerunderneath the spring. While holding the valve open, blow out the condenser using the
compressed air or carbon dioxide supply until water stops coming out.
6) Close the drain valve(s).
7) Replace the right side panel and ront panel in their correct positions.
