Gæstetaler
Sebastian is an 11th semester medical student at
the University of Copenhagen. In addition he has a
military career as reserve officer in the Danish army.
In 2009 Sebastian was stationed with the Danish
Battlegroup in Helmand, Afghanistan as Civil-
Military Cooperation officer. There he participated
on more than 60 dismounted patrols where he
on occasion assisted the Danish medics in the pre-
hospital treatment of wounded personnel.
At present Sebastian is writing his thesis at the
Department of Cardiology at Rigshospitalet –
a Danish university hospital.
Jan is trained as a clinical psychologist and worked in mental hospitals and
prisons before changing to the present field of work as a Human Factors and
simulator training consultant. He is specializing in leadership, work method, crew
cooperation and workload aspects for mainly maritime, process industry, aviation
and medical staff. The main tool for training staff in these aspects is the simulator
which has led to another aspects of Jan´s work: training of simulator instructors.
His qualifications as a pilot and deck officer have served as a helpful background
especially when training aviation and maritime staff. He is part owner of a sailing
ship, a 24 metre sailing trawler built in 1905, which requires a lot of time for
maintenance and repair. The reward, though, is setting 300 square metres of sails
and enjoy the winds along the Swedish coast including its archipelagos. If there
is still some spare time left, it is used for voluntary work within a number of as-
sociations such as NTS (the Nordic Association for Training Simulator Users).
Peter is psychologist working with simulation since 1999 and focussing on
simulation in Health Care since 2001. Currently he is employed as director of
research at the Danish Institute for Medical Simulation (DIMS). He received his
PhD with a work on simulation settings in anaesthesia in 2005. His research
on simulation focuses on understanding simulation as a social practice, try-
ing to optimize the interplay of concepts and technology. Peter is especially
interested in the benefits of unrealism in simulation and how it can contribute
to creating, recognizing and using learning opportunities. Peter is interested
ways of matching the learning goals of a simulation as closely as possible with
the learning needs of the participants and selecting the right (simulative) tools
to help participants in reaching them. Peters research with simulation focuses
the investigation of human factors and organisational processes. Peter is the
Immediate Past President of the Society in Europe for Simulation Applied to
Medicine (SESAM) and was a Co-Chair of the International Meeting on
Simulation in Health Care (IMSH) in 2011 in New Orleans.
