PRAYERWe create all kinds of

difficulties in our prayer. Let usgo back to what Jesus has taught– the intimate and simple prayer:‘Our Father...’ Even little children can pray this. Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta

Jesus said: When you pray, there is no need

to use many words. Your Father knows what youneed before you ask him. Pray like this:

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy

name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, onearth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our dailybread, and forgive us our trespasses as we forgivethose who trespass against us, and lead us notinto temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.

I cannot bring myself to hunt through books for beautiful

prayers. There are so many of them that I get a headache. Besides, each prayer seems lovelier than the next. Icannot possibly say them all and do not know which tochoose. I behave like a child who cannot read: I tell Godvery simply what I want and He always understands. For me, prayer is an upward leap of the heart, anuntroubled glance towards heaven, a cry of gratitude andlove which I utter from the depths of sorrow as well asfrom the heights of joy... St. Theresa of Lisieux

A construction worker who visited St. Patrick’s

Cathedral every day on his lunch hour was asked by oneof his fellow workers, “What do you do there?” Heresponded, “I say, Hello, Jesus, this is Jerry. Then I lookat Him, and He looks at me.”

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with you. Blessed

are you among women and blessed is the fruit of yourwomb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for ussinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and the Holy

Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now and will beforever. Amen.

Acquire the habit of speaking to God as if you were

alone with Him, with familiarity and confidence andlove, as to the dearest and most loving of friends.Ask those who love Him with a sincere love, and theywill tell you that they find no greater or prompter reliefamid the troubles of their life than in loving conversationwith their Divine Friend. Speak to Him often of yourbusiness, your plans, your troubles, your fears – ofeverything that concerns you. St. Alphonsus Liguori

I should be distressed that I

drop off to sleep during myprayers... But I don’t feel at alldistressed. I know that childrenare just as dear to their parentswhether they are asleep orawake, and I know that doctorsput their patients to sleep beforethey operate. I’d never before heard it said

that one’s faults did not distress God, and I wasoverwhelmed with joy when I did receive this assurance. It gave me patience to endure this life of exile. It was, too, the echo of my inmost thoughts. For a long time Ihad realized that Our Lord was more tender than amother – and how well I know the depths of tendernessin more than one mother’s heart! I know that a mother isalways ready to forgive the misbehavior of her child. St. Theresa of Lisieux

It is a great grace of God to

practice self-examination; but toomuch is as bad as too little. Believe me, by God’s help, weshal l advance more bycontemplating God than bykeeping our eyes fixed onourselves. St. Teresa of Avila

Must you continue to be your

own cross? No matter whichway God leads you, you changeeverything into bitterness byconstantly brooding overeverything. For the love of God,replace all this self-scrutiny witha pure and simple glance atGod’s goodness! St. Jane de Chantal

Prayer of TrustO God, quiet haven of the storm-tossed, you give hope to those whohope in you. Savior of the sick, help of the needy, leader of theblind, you are a light amidst thedarkness.O Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,O light never-failing, who hasallowed me to share in yoursuffering on the Cross, look withmercy upon me, for I submit mywhole self to your wisdom andlove.

Prayer of Early Christians

O Lord God almighty, Jesus Christ, who came to call not the just butsinners to repentance, I give youthanks for accepting me as a victimfor the glory of your name. Youoffered yourself as victim on thecross for the salvation of the wholeworld. I offer my suffering to you,who with the Father and the HolySpirit reign God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Psalm 23The Lord is my shepherd;there is nothing I shall want.Fresh and green are the pastureswhere he gives me repose.Near restful waters he leads me,to revive my drooping spirit.

He guides me along the right path;he is true to his name.If I should walk in the valley ofdarkness no evil would I fear. You are there with your crook andyour staff; with these you give me comfort.

You have prepared a banquet forme in the sight of my foes.My head you have anointed withoil. My cup overflows.

Surely, goodness and kindnessshall follow me all the days of mylife, and I shall dwell in the houseof the Lord forever.

Litany For All Who Are SickLord, God of creation, master of our lives,we come before you as the leperpleading before Jesus for himselfand the centurion pleading foranother. Be not far from us, andhear our prayers.

For the healing of our hands, thatwe may extend them in love tostrangers, we pray, Lord, havemercy.

For the healing of our ears, that wemay clearly hear your voice andyour call, we pray, Lord, havemercy.

For the healing of our hearts, thatwe may delight in you and theworks of your hands, we pray,Lord, have mercy.

For the healing of our arms, thatwe may fashion a world of hope,we pray, Lord, have mercy.

For the healing of our legs, that wemay help to carry the burdens ofthe oppressed, we pray, Lord, havemercy.

For the healing of our lips, that wemay always speak your praise, wepray, Lord, have mercy.

For the healing of our knees, thatwe may bend them before yourmajesty, we pray, Lord, havemercy.

For the healing of our feet, that wemay carry the message of yourpeace to the high mountains, wepray, Lord have mercy.

God our Father, come to us todayand heal the ills of our lives.

O God, grant us a deeper sense offellowship with all living creatures, our little brothers and sisters, towhom, in common with us, youhave given this earth as home. Werecall with regret that in the pastwe have acted high-handedly andcruelly in exercising our domainover them. Thus, the voice of the earth, whichshould have risen to you in song, has turned into a groan of travail.May we realize that all of thesecreatures also live for themselvesand for you – not for us alone. They too love the goodness of life,as we do, and serve you better intheir way than we do in ours

St. Basil of Caesarea, born 330

The Feast of Corpus Christi

encourages us to become, in ourlives, imitators of what we celebratein the liturgy. The Christ whonourishes us under the consecratedspecies of bread and wine, is thesame Christ whom we meet duringthe course of everyday life. He isthe suffering person who imploresour help. He is in the brother or sister who asks us to bethere, and awaits our welcome. He is in every humanbeing, even the smallest and most defenseless.”

Pope Francis

The most Blessed Sacramentis Christ made visible. Thepoor sick person is Christ againmade visible.

St. Gerard Majella

The temple of our afflicted neighbor’s

body is more holy than the altar of stoneon which you celebrate the holysacrifice. You are able to contemplatethis altar everywhere, in the street and inthe open squares. St. John Chrysostom
