01STUDIOProject : IS Inhabitation (Biophilic Design)
Tutor : Alexandra Wright
From the outside, it looks like any other inner-city block.Situated in a grungy, grati-laced ve-storey building, Hibernian House is home to artist studios and accommodation, gallery space, a lo- theatre space (Old 505) and a dance studio. Over the years it's been home to many a DIY gig, exhibition and party and had many artists call it home. It is important for Sydney to have a community like this.
Studio 401, 342 Elizabeth St, Surry Hills NSW
SITE
Extend the exploration of Hibernian House to encompass a series of spaces which form a path from the threshold of the building’s entrance, to the roof.
Reconcile the inhabitants of the building with nature, whilst creating space for fertile collaborations which strengthen the community of the building.
Visual connection with nature
Prospect and Refuge
Biomorphic Form and Pattern
1 : 200 Plan
Prospect and Refuge
REFUGE can be present as small and dark ; PROSPECT is brighty. They can coexist in the same space. From prospect we must able to retrect to the refuge. From the idea of Green Room by A12, using timber at the entrences, climbing plant surrounding the wall bring people connect to nature sense they step into the building. The design of the entrences is like a Green Room, door as a skylight and a person stand surrounding with plants. People from outside cannot look into the entrence but people inside this building can looks to the outside street. LED light put on the wall make this space more lighten then before.
Visual connection with nature have a function of restorative or reducing eects by looking at nature. Mainifedted as a constellation of benecial change that include reduce level of NAGATIVELY toned emotions, change in physiological system. The corridor of rooftop change from concealed space to an open space. In addition the new design bring in more sunlight to the space and also improve the air movement in the space.
Visual connection with nature
Biomorphic Form and PatternThe landform when I walk into bush in Ku-Ring Gai National Park is jumping and climbing up and down, and the geography of bush walk was irregularity. Also in the refrences of The Australian Garden got many dierent kinds of pattern and form. All pattern and form combine together to build out a abstract staircase, and reform in the Hibernian house.
All the way from enterence, a person kind of going to a national park.At the beganing of the journey, a person go to a national park, after enjoying the view of national park, you go into a bush walk (which is the abstract staircase), all the way to the viewing point which is locatedat the roof top.
Life and nature are similar concepts because nature is the study of how life acts and interacts within the circle of existence. When we take the time to examine the beauty of the world around us, we are able to see parallels within our own lives. One who is attuned with nature is attuned with the practice of living. All of nature moves in a spiral as do our personal lives. It is important to spend time in nature because in this way we can become attuned to its wisdom.

The colour of wood give warmfeeling to this space.
Koala became the anamorphicillusion in this space, because koala is one of the landmark in Australia.

Build form is the rst impression for people remember a space.
Le Corbusier said that architecture start when you carefully
put two bricks together. Build form changing
role of perspective in art and introduces axonometric,
which is parallel perspective as a new
means to represent and perceive space.
Changing the space where a person standing, the proportion
of the building from the eye levels will be dierent as well.
So, this is kind of playing with physical things to visual.

The enclosure is a private burial ground for the Brion family, commissioned bt Onorina Tomasi Brion, widow of thefounder of the Brionvega Company. The architect, Carlo Scarpa said about this project : “ I would like to explain theTomb Brion. I consider this work,if you premit me, to be rather good and which will get better over time. I have triedto put some poetic imagination into it, though not in order to create poetic architecture but to make a certain kind of architecture that could emanate a sense of formal poetry. The place for the dead is a garden. I wanted to show some ways in which you could approsch death in social and civic way; and further what meaning there was in death,in the ephemerality of life other than these shoe-box.”
The architecture of the pavilion develops on a natural and featureless, square base. Three closed space set up take the service facilities in the morning and meeting place on that structure of space and devide the plan into three areas without sealing o against each other. The groung plan as well are structure and devided into three area without blocking them o one another. Each of the areas make by dierent geometric shapes and dierent ceilling hights, combining to form one large space.

Waverley Cemetery
The Waverley Cemetery opened in 1877 and is located on top of a cli top board walk with fantastic views between Bronte and Clovelly above the Bondi to Coogee walk. It is noted for its largely intact Victorian and Edwardian monuments. Waverley Cemetery had its rst internment in 1877 now has now grown to over 80,000 interments in 50,000 gravesites and memorials over 40 acres.
The cemetery contains over 200 war graves from various past conicts, of which there are 129 registered and maintained by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission (over 100 from World War I and nearly 20 from World War II). The front gates are a memorial to the residents of the area who died during World War I and World War II . Inside the main gates is a memorial to the military forces of NSW which houses the remains of several ocers killed in an 1891 sea mine explosion at Middle Head.

Discovering in design reflects the growing recognition that the design of the everyday world deserves attention not only as a professional practice but as a subject of social, or cultural. After finish analysis two types of circulation at Domain car park, the combine of circulation between cars and visitors create an interesting shape via the movement of each other.
From site analysis, most of the meeting point for people are the walkway between St Mary church and Art Gallery. Therefore, the idea of meeting point become a centre as the main point for people to meet with each other.
Going underground, like drivers searching for a parking space, like visitors searching for the exit or entrance inside the car park. So, this building is designed to encourage visitors to notice or learn something in the building, and enjoy themselves in the slow reveal through lighting and visual experience. People approach light in relationship to architecture. Therefore, the light itself is what informs the architecture by using different illusion. The concealed light sources created a mysterious impression for the intimate space, which can be flexibly by changing their intensity or colour dynamically.

Hypothesis
How important the lighting is? What kind of innovation can improve working quality? In this project, we
to separate space function. A lamp itself become an object of interest in the room, changing the quality of a space, brightness and intensity.
Building with abundant daylight keeps ocer physically and emo onally healthy, which can increase the job performance and sa sfac on. The use of French sash window in the space allow daylight evenly illuminate to the ground, which can merge between ar ficial and the sun light that produce the “Golden Ra o” of the perfect working condi on.

Based on our hypothesis and the visualiza on, the use of warm and neutral light becomes another ligh ng scenario, which using warm and neutral two dierent light colours clearly separated the relaxing areas and the working space.
In the working area light schemes, we a empt to use floor wash down light to illuminate the desks only, and each light which is communicate to each touch panel under the desk. This design will provided a be er eco-aware on the energy loose and avoid destruct to the person next to you. For the pin-up boards we decide to use the Hi-tracs trip luminaire to illuminate the board evenly. The use of spot down-light focus illuminate at the top surface, which provide a pla orm to display the models from the HASSELL oce.
To make a dis nc on between the relaxing areas, we have choose large wa s down light and double focus floor wash light to illuminate and decora ng the lounge sofa. In addi on, warm white colour’s laminates are changing the moody and feelings of the space. Also the corridor space are becoming the transforma on between work and relax, so the warm light trac luminaires hiding behind the strip ceiling can perform well on illuminate the corridor so ly and smoothly while do destruc ng the working luminaries schemes. At the centre hollow area, the window railing area are the loca ons allowed to see though the lower level. Concern about the connec on between the two floors, we select so warm white down light install right on the top of the hollow area, which allow the luminaries can illuminate upper floor so ly and illuminated lower floor feature.
