WHERE WE STAND
SERICULTURE :
Jharkhand state is the leading producer of tasar silk. Jharcraft started with production of 120 metric
tone and now it has increased to 700 metric tone in the year 2010-11. Total 85000 families are being
supported in this sector by Jharcraft. Jharcraft has procured Organic Silk Certification from One Cert
Asia, an international organization, for its silk products. It has also obtained the Handloom and silk mark.
We are having 40 pilot project centers for carrying out the rearing activity.
Through its Tasar silk production, Jharcraft is effecting changes in the living standards of the rural
population with each woman employed in production earning around Rs. 4000-5000 every month.
Jharcraft supports around 60 CFCs each of which consists of 30 women for reeling and spinning.
HANDLOOM :
There were around 162 Primary Weavers Co-operative Societies (PWCS) in Jharkhand, but all societies
were defunct from the year 1962. Jharcraft has revived these societies after a gap of 12 years i.e 1962.
Apparently Jharcraft has revived 100 societies and supported them with all facilities.
At present, Jharcraft is running 31 clusters and 42 groups sanctioned by Development Commissioner
Handlooms, Ministry of Textiles, GOI. Also, we are getting financial support from NABARD for the 21
clusters.
