ARTICLELast year, I went on a trip to Singapore and I had to exchange my local currency to Singapore dollars. I was weighing up which place would be best to change currency. Should I change it at the airport or at a bank? Some of my friends suggested that changing the money at a bank in my own country first would provide the best rate of exchange. I decided that I should do that but on the day of departure I had completely forgotten to change my money. I ended up having to change money at the airport in Singapore and so the exchange rate was slightly worse.

In Singapore, I noticed how much more expensive everything was. Even a cup of coffee was double that I would pay in the Philippines. I had to be frugal with how I spent my money. Fortunately, the food was relatively cheap especially if I ate at the roadside stalls as oppose to in a restaurant. At the end of my trip I wanted to get some souvenirs for my friends back in the Philippines. ( continued )
