Erasmus +

Due to Directorate General of Migration Management, Foreigner Students (EU citizens) are not required to get a student or touristic visa before leaving their country. Because they are already allowed to stay in Turkey for 90 days in 180 days period.(Please contact Embassy for details). For those who have special cases or not a EU Passport may need to get Visa.Then it is possible for them to get a student visa with a letter of acceptance which is sent by us. In 30 days period after the students arrive in İstanbul, they are supposed to get an appoinment for residence permit. Trying to get an appoinment before arriving will be useless.

Note: Please use your passports when entering Turkey not National ID-Cards.

We organize an orientation meeting for Erasmus incoming students. In this meeting we give all necessary information about your study, social life in Turkey and we meet each other. This event is usually organized in the first week of term.

6. MUSEUM CARD: We advise all our students to visit and see Palaces, Museums, Historical Places all over Turkey. You can buy this card from Mobile Museum Card Office in front of Hagia Sophia Mosque in Sultanahmet Square. With this Card you can visit more than 300 museums in Turkey free.

8. RESIDENCE PERMIT:We know that you are counting the days for your Erasmus adventure. In order to do it unforgettable with less trouble we will try to help you in advance. At this letter we would like to inform you about residence permit. As you know, Turkey is not a member of EU, so you need to get residence permit if your stay is more than 90 days here. This procedures are bringing some responsibilities as well. We are going to share all the processes step by step with you upcoming days.

We want to give you some tips before you come here in order to have less problem for your residence permit process.

Tips:-You should bring your original passport; you can not get a residence permit with yournational ID. So please bring your original passport with a validity at least one year long.

- When you are arriving to Turkey, please get a clear stamp on your passport by the policeofficer on the borders , which shows the day you arrive.(Please do no use National IDCard)

- If you know your residence address in Istanbul already you can get online appointmenton the website below. If you do not know how to apply or if you have questions pleasewait for our update on website upcoming days. This is the link you can apply:https://e-ikamet.goc.gov.tr/

-Health Insurance; most complicated one is the health insurance. Please read the instruc-tions below carefully:

You have 3 options for health insurance:

Option 1:

If you have a public health insurance in your country and your country is mentioned below you will be exempted from Health Insurance when you fill in following documents. In order to reach these documents you should contact with your public insurance office and you should receive the forms (formulas) arranged for your name and details.

Example:

If you are from Germany and you have a public insurance, please contact health insurance office and ask them for T/A 11 formulare. They will arrange you a paper with your name and the dates you will stay in Turkey. Please do not forget to get an official stamp and signature on your formulare from insurance office. You should bring this paper with you to Turkey.

Option 2:

If you do not have public insurance or if you can not provide the formulas we mentioned above, you have to get a private health insurance. Minimum coverages of your health insurance shall be like the chart below:

Contracted Health Providers / Noncontracted Health Providers

You should get insurance with these coverages, please do not forget to put Turkey as country name to your insurance. And the dates in your insurance shall cover the days you study in Istanbul. We recommend you to get an English document from your insurance company which is declaring your insurance information, mentioning your full name and birth date. After getting this paper, you will come to our Erasmus office and we will give you a stamp and signature and you will go to Social Security Office in İstanbul and you will get the official Turkish insurance letter and it will help you at your residence permit appointment.

Option 3:

Getting a Turkish Health Insurance. Turkish Health Insurance costs in total around 160€ for 18-35 years old students. So if the insurance fee you are planning to get in yourcountry is more expensive than these fees you can easily get Turkish Health Insurance in Turkey. We will help you for this process when you arrive here. Turkish Health Insurance is obligated to be one year but there are more contracted hospitals and pharmaciescomparing to your local insurance companies.If you read these tips carefully, you will have less problems during your residence process. The students who would come to our University should bring the following documents with them for the issurance of the residence permit

1 – APPLICATION FORMS(7 PAGES) https://e-ikamet.goc.gov.tr/

2- PASSPORT AND VISA (ORIGINAL AND COPY) (Entrance page to Turkey is also required.) If you have a visa, please do not forget to take a copy of visa)

3- HEALTH INSURANCE (IT SHOULD COVER THE EDUCATION PERIOD IN TURKEY)

4- 4 BIOMETRIC PHOTOS

5- RESIDENCE PERMIT CARD FEE: EACH STUDENT SHOULD PAY 110 TURKISH LIRAS AT THE TAX OFFICE IN TURKEY OR ONLINE.

6- STUDENT CERTIFICATE*

7- STATEMENT OF ADDRESS

8- DECLARATION NOTIFICATION – ACCEPTANCE STATEMENT.

9- IF THE STUDENTS ARE UNDER 18 YEARS OLD, THEY SHOULD SHOW A WRITTEN DOCUMENT (IN ORIGINAL LANGUAGE AS WELL AS TURKISH TRANSLATION) INDICATING THEIR PARENTS ALLOW THEM TO STUDY IN TURKEY.

10- STUDENTS WHO ENTER TURKEY WITH A VISA (STUDENT VISA OR E.VISA ETC) SHOULD NOT PAY FEE FOR THE VISA. HOWEVER THE STUDENTS WHO ARE EXEMPT FROM VISA REQUIREMENTS FOR ENTERING TURKEY, SHOULD PAY VISA FEE TO THE ANY TAX OFFICE IN TURKEY, IN ORDER TO TAKE RESIDENCE PERMITS. THEY SHOULD SUBMIT BOTH THE ORIGINAL AND THE COPY OF THE RECEIPT IN ORDER TO START THE NECESSARY PROCEDURE FOR THE ISSUANCE OF THE RESIDENCE PERMITS. THE VISA FEE IS 458,70 TURKISH LIRAS FOR ALL STUDENTS.

P.S: RESIDENCE PERMIT COULD BE GIVEN AT MOST TWO MONTHS PRIOR TO THEEXPIRATION DATE OF THE PASSPORT. FOR EXAMPLE, IF ONLY 3 MONTHS LEFT TO THE EXPIRATION DATE OF HIS/HER PASSPORT, THE STUDENT COULD ONLY TAKE 1 MONTH RESIDENCE PERMIT. FOR THIS REASON, IF A STUDENT WOULD LIKE TO TAKE 4 MONTHS RESIDENCE PERMIT, THE VALIDITY OF HIS/HER PASSPORT SHOULD BE AT LEAST 6 MONTHS.

NOTE: STUDENTS WHO HAVE TURKISH CITIZENSHIPS, BLUE OR PINK CARDS DON’T NEED RESIDENCE PERMIT.

There are three main mobile service operator called Turkcell, Vodafone and Turk Telekom. The companies has different advantages, you can check the campaigns and prices from the websites but it is advised to go to a physical store to ask for the up-to-datecampaigns. You should get your mobile phone and passport with you, when youget to store.

Esn Existanbul, Istanbul University’s Erasmus club, was established in 2010, and joined the ESN structure after having the votes of all ESN sections in the National Platform of October 2010.Voluntarily helping more than 500 students along a year, ESN Existanbul helps the students with solving the problems they face about resident permit, mobile deviceregistration...etc. and organizes parties and events to the incoming students as one of the most active ESN section in Istanbul.

According to the Turkish law, A mobile phone which is bought from abroad, has to be registered.Otherwise your phone will be blocked and you will not be able to use in Turkey.You have 120 days to register your phone.In case you do not want to register your phone, you can buy a simple phone in Turkey
