Associated Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industries

(ACCCIM). 15 associations were present to discuss minimum

wage for foreign workers.

Participated a Task Force meeting, formed under the Joint

Association to work on proposal for submission to the

Government.

Met with Dr Mohd Gazali of EPU, together with ACCCIM,

FMM and a few other associations to discuss the minimum

wage for foreign workers.

Assisted the Joint Industry to finalise the memorandum,

proposing for a transitional wage structure for foreign

workers, i.e. RM676 basic + RM224 benefit in kind (including

levy and accommodation payments by employers and

approved incentive payment scheme).

President Mr KB Lim presented a paper on “Minimum Wages

– Views from the Manufacturers” at the Seminar on Human

Resources organised by the ACCCIM.

7 3 December 2013

Mr KB Lim was invited as a panelist at a PEMANDU Clinic on

Making Minimum Wages Work”.

8 21 January 2014

Sent a letter to MITI, EPU and PEMANDU expressing our

concerns on the implementation of minimum wages for

foreign workers and increase in electricity tariff.

2 March 2013, ‘Hi 5 ME (Mother Earth) ‘Don’t Be a Litterbug’ Public Campaign at Bukit

Bintang, KL was headed by MPMA together with the Bukit Bintang Central Environmental

Committee of Local Agenda 21 DBKL (Kuala Lumpur City Hall). The event was successfully

undertaken by 700 volunteers from partners of LA21 KL cleaning up Bukit Bintang whilst

creating awareness and educating public on anti-littering. The event was launched by the

KL Mayor, YBhg Datuk Seri Hj Ahmad Phesal bin Hj Talib.

1 June 2013, MPF/MPMA collaborated with Tropicana City Mall on its World Environment Day

celebration. MPF/MPMA volunteers gave out ‘Don’t be a Litterbug’ car stickers and encouraging

shoppers to dispose of rubbish responsibly, so as to avoid littering in the mall as well as in the

surrounding areas. The campaign was well received by the public.

23 November 2013, MPMA and Everyday Brush Industries (M) Sdn Bhd organised a ‘Hi-5 ME

(Mother Earth) Don’t Be a Litterbug’ at Festival City Mall, Setapak. The campaign received

overwhelming support from the public by exchanging ‘Hi-5s’ and pledging towards anti-litter with

their signatures.

30 November 2013, MPMA and Chong Wah Plastics Sdn Bhd organised a ‘Hi-5 ME (Mother Earth)

Don’t Be a Litterbug’ at IOI Mall, Puchong. The campaign was well supported by the public as they

pledged their support against littering with their signatures.

1 August 2013, MPMA-DOW Don’t Be a Litterbug and 3Rs Awareness Programme 2013, Penang Award Ceremony was officiated by YB Tuan Phee Boon Poh, Welfare, Caring Community

and Environment Committee Chairman for Penang State Government at

Jit Sin Independent High School, Bukit Mertajam.

MPF/MPMA’s ‘Don’t Be a

Litterbug’ Campaign has

reached the media’s attention,

the latest being in the Life and

Times Health section of the

New Straits Times, where a

full page was dedicated on

littering. The page had

mentioned about the

MPF/MPMA campaign and

quoted the source as

MPF/MPMA.

CAFÉ LATTE CHAT - an open forum that discusses selected topics of interest to the

public hosted by The Star Online. The forum titled ‘A Closer Look at Plastics’ that

discusses issues on ‘Plastics and the Environment’ was attended by (from left) En

Ahmad Khairuddin – Vice Chairman, MPF, En Abdul Aziz – President, ENSEARCH and

Dato’ Dr Nadzri – Director-General, National Solid Waste Management Department. The

forum was held on 14 October 2013 and was published on The Star Online on 22

October 2013.

Commitment Statement

Why is the Commitment Statement part of the anti-litter campaign?

It is a strong and purposeful statement against the issue of littering and is in line with MPMA’s commitment to the Global Marine Litter Declaration

27 October 2013, MPMA collaborated with Department of Environment on its Malaysian

Environment Week 2013 celebration at Putrajaya. MPMA volunteers gave out ‘Don’t be a

Litterbug’ car stickers by encouraging the public to dispose of rubbish responsibly. The campaign

conjunction with the Malaysia

presented to Mr Lim Kok Boon,

G. Palanivel, Minister of Natural

Resources and Environment.

We hope that through MPMA’s actions and activities, and those with our Partners – we can further build greater ‘trust’ amongst the public towards plastics

It is obvious that we have to continue the Media and PR Campaign as the public misconception towards plastic is still rife – therefore more needs to be done
