Iskitim

Iskitim - the town (since 1933) in Russia, district center of Novosibirsk region.

The population is 63.8 thousand people (2005).

The city is situated on the river Berd, 65 km away from Novosibirsk.

The head of the city is Victor Genrikhovich Pfeifer.

The first years of life Iskitim

All cities, as well as the people are unique, each has its own history, biography and notable places. All this applies to our town.

The first unique feature of Iskitim is its history, which is closely connected with the stone.

Iskitim Birth

A long time ago on the banks of a fast river Berd existed Teleut - fantastic bit of land rich in fish, beavers and crayfish. Pine forest was full of mushrooms, berries and animals. In the birch groves birds were singing their songs. And here came unknown people - ashkitimy. And people said:

"It's good bit of land! Stay here." And they began to live here - happily and well.

The Mongol Khan Kuchum warriors raided here. And they told the soldiers: "This is our Khan`s land. Get out or pay tribute." They did not want to leave the land and they began to pay tribute to Kuchum.

So would they pay this tribute all the time, if not come the Cossacks of the great river Volga with their chief Yermak. "Beauty! This land will be Russian”, Ermak said, and went to war to Kuchum.

The cossacks defeated the tribe of Mongol-Tatar, and Teleut land became Russian.

Since then, Russian started to build their villages. In 1717 on the banks of a small river the Cossacks two brothers Shipunovs built a house and around their house a whole village has grown, and the name it has Shipunovo . The river was named Shipuniha.

On the other shore of the river the Koynovs brothers built their houses.

On the shore of the river Chernaya villages Chernorechka and Vylkovo appeared.

So time passed and 4 villages gave the birth to Iskitim.

Iskitim Coat of Arms

A new coat of arms was adopted in 2006.On the green field there are two golden beavers

holding a silver trowel.It symbolizes the town building other towns.Down there is a blue wave of the river Berd.
