    Prof Laurence Juma

    Juma is currently working as a lecturer in Rhodes UniversitysFaculty o Law. His lecture areas include property law, customarylaw and public international law. He graduated rom the University

    o Nairobi with a Bachelor o Law degree and went on to obtain aMasters o Law rom the University o Pennsylvania. He completedhis Doctor o Laws degree rom the University o Fort Hare andalso holds a Masters o Arts degree in Peace Studies rom the Uni-versity o Notre Dame. Juma was appointed Hall Warden or JanSmuts Hall at the beginning o this year. He also currently serves onthe Editorial Board o Arican Yearbook o International Humani-tarian Law.

    Dr Lee Watkins

    Watkins is the Head o Music and Musicology at Rhodes Univer-sity as well as a senior lecturer in Ethnomusicology. He graduatedcum laudein both his Bachelor o Arts (Honours) and Master oArts degrees rom the University o Kwa-Zulu Natal. He also holdsa doctorate rom the University o Hong-Kong. Watkins headsup a project that deals with the heritage o Ntaba kaNdoda in theAmatole Mountains and is an assessor or the American Council

    o Learned Societiess (ACLS) Arican Humanities Program. Hewas also recently invited to be the Area Editor or Arica or theLanguage Arts and Linguistics (Hong Kong) journal.

    Rat Western

    Currently a lecturer o Digital Arts in the Rhodes Departmento Fine Art, Western has a Bachelor o Fine Arts in painting anda Masters in Interactive Media rom the University o the Witwa-tersrand. She has previously worked as a reelance web and printmedia specialist and lectured Digital Arts at the Wits School o Artbeore moving to Rhodes. She is the International and News EditororArtTrob, an online publication. Western has exhibited interna-tionally in places such as Florence, Dublin and Rotterdam and hasreceived a number o awards including Te Martienssen Prize in2002 and the HP Invision Digital Photographic Award in 2003.

    Peta Myers

    Myers completed her BCom degree through Unisa, afer whichshe ran a bookkeeping and personal consultancy business. She hasbeen a lecturer in the Accounting Department at Rhodes since2007 and has since completed her Honours in Financial Account-ing through Unisa, a Postgraduate Diploma in Higher Educationand her Masters in Education with a ocus on student learning inAccounting 1 through Rhodes. She is currently studying towardsher PhD which concentrates on the enabling and constraining ac-tors aced by Accounting students during their degree. She is alsothe House Warden o John Kotze Residence and the Hall Warden oSt Mary Hall.

    Mandla Gagayi

    Currently the Head o Sport at Rhodes University, Gagayi lastyear represented the South Arican delegation as the Deputy Chede Mission o the University Sports South Arica at the WorldStudent Games held in Russia. He also attended a previous World

    Student Games in Bangkok as the Logistics Manager and wasinvolved in the 2010 World Cup as a team liaison or the Englandnational team. Gagayi is a Hall ellow or Lilian Ngoyi Hall.

    Susan Smailes

    Smailes has been the current Director o Special Projects in theVice Chancellors Office since 2010. She has previously held thepositions o Head o the Office o University Industrial Rela-

    tions Advisor and Director o Industrial Relations at Wits. Aferreceiving her LLB at Rhodes in 1995, she went on to complete anLLM through Wits in 2000. Smailes has been a guest lecturer orthe Rhodes Law Faculty and has been part o the Rhodes Masters

    Rowing Crew since last year. Additionally, she is a registered socialworker and was a member o the Grahamstown Child WelareBoard in 2012 and 2013.

    Vuyani Zondani

    Currently the Community Partner and Student OrganisationCoordinator or Rhodes University Community Engagement,Zondani obtained his Honours in Development Studies rom theUniversity o the Western Cape in 1993. In addition to this, hehas completed courses in Project Management and Environmen-tal Education rom Rhodes and a Horticulture and Landscapingcourse rom the Durban University o echnology. He first came toRhodes as a Junior Researcher or the Institute o Social and Eco-

    nomic Research (ISER), but has also acted as Programme Manageror Hope Arica in Cape own and managed the Greening othe Nation Programme under the South Arican National Biodiver-sity Institute.

    Setlogane Manchidi

    Manchidi is the Head o Investec CSI in South Arica. He com-

    pleted his Honours in Social Policy and Management with distinc-tion rom the University o Cape own and is currently working onhis Masters in Commerce rom the University o Johannesburg. Hehas previously worked or Andersen Consulting (now Accenture)and in 2005 was added as an Archbishop Desmond utu ellow.Under his leadership, Investec CSI has been awarded the 2009 Sun-day imes op 100 CSI Leadership Award. Manchidi also sits onthe Study rust board o trustees and has chaired the KutlwanongMaths, Science and echnology Centres Board as well as the ABILDevelopment rust.

    Thandi Mzizi

    Mzizi is the current Advocacy Officer o HIV/Aids or staff andstudents at Rhodes. He has previously been the Director o TandisResearch, raining and Development CC and an Assistant Directoror HIV/Aids at the Department o Economic Development andourism or the Western Cape Provincial Administration. Mzizicompleted his Bachelor o Social Science in Industrial Psychol-ogy and Industrial Sociology in 1999 and received his Masters oPhilosophy in HIV/Aids and the world o work rom StellenboschUniversity in 2006.

    Janine Harris

    Harris is currently working as both Rhodes Universitys Manageror Housekeeping Services and the Oppidan Hall Warden.

    towards the end o last year and orwhich he has gained internationalattention and exposure.     David Glover

    Currently in the third year o his Bach-elor o Fine Arts, Glover has taken partin two recent art competitions: win-ning the Rhodes Fine Art Department

    Holiday Exhibition and becoming afinalist in the Sasol New Signaturesnational art competition. Tis yearGlover joined five other per ormersand researchers rom the Rhodes FineArt department with the intention oproducing a newspaper investigatingthe Inecting Te City perormancesin Cape own in early 2015. Glover isa current member o the Useless ArtsCollective as well as the band Shackles& Bones, which was signed by SilverCup Records earlier this year.

    Joshua Oates

    Oates is currently in the final yearo a Bachelor o Journalism degree,specialising in photography. Havingbeen a writer or Grocotts Mailsince

    his first year in 2011, Oates has alsohad his photographs published inCue, Te Heraldand on theAlgoa FM

    website. Oates was elected Chie PhotoEditor at Te Oppidan Pressin 2013and contributed to the latest edition oRhodos.     Ayanda Mbonani

    Mbonani has always been interestedin community engagement initiatives.Since her involvement in the establish-ment o a youth initiative in Grade 11called ClayPot-Youth Against SocialInjustice, she has taken on community

    engagement projects with a passion.Although only in her second year oa Bachelor o Science degree, she hasbeen involved in a variety o projectsincluding Legal Activism, Inkwenkwe-zi Society, Te Oppidan Press, GenderAction Project and Pan Arican YouthDialogue.     Luke Cadden

    Studying towards his Honours in Psy-chology, Cadden is also a Graduate As-sistant in the Psychology departmentas well as a tutor or Organisational

    Nhlanhla Mabena

    Raymond Ndlovu

    Ndlovu is studying a Bachelor o Artsdegree in Economics and Instru-mental Music Studies. He won thenovice category o the 2013 Mu-tual & Federal Boatrace and has alsorepresented Rhodes in dancing at theSouth Arican National Dance Compe-tition.     Patel is currently studying a PhDin Pharmacy Practice. She has beenplaced on the Deans List and is alsoa member o the Golden Key Inter-national Honour Society.     Jessica Burger

    Burger is currently completing herBachelor o Business Science degreeand is a student representative on theCommerce Faculty Board.     Chemuru is currently a MastersPharmacy student and member o thevolleyball club.     Cody van Wyk

    Eighteen-year-old van Wyk has been

    involved in hockey or twelve years.His achievements include being se-lected to captain the Eastern Provincesunder-18 hockey team and receivingan award or being the most valuablemidfielder at the under-18 provincialhockey tournament. In addition tothis, van Wyk is part o South Aricasunder eighteen A-team and has rep-resented South Arica in the Hockey5s tournament in the second SummerYouth Olympic games held in Nanjing,China this August. He is one o onlyfive first years to be part o the Rhodes

    First eam hockey.

    Charles ODonoghue

    ODonoghue is doing his BSc Honoursin Chemistry and has been involved inleadership positions at an academic,sporting and university society level.He is the 2014 Chairperson o theStudent Sports Council and has been amens tennis captain, Vice-Chairpersono the Rowing Club and a Class Rep-resentative or Chemistry in 2012 and2014. He has also won the Adminis-tration Award or contributing to theconsistent operation o the RowingClub or several years. He was the 2012group leader o his 2nd year ChemistryGroup Project which went on to win
