Step 1: BackupIfyou’reupgradingfromQuickBooks2006orearlier,QuickBookspreventsyoufromoverwritingyouroriginalcompanyfileduringtheupgradeprocess.However,werecommendthatyoumakeabackupbeforeyouinstallQuickBooksEnterpriseSolutions.

Step 2: Installation BeforeyouinstallQuickBooksonacomputer,you’llneedtodecidewhichtypeofinstallationisappropriateforthatcomputer.

Choose:

• I’ll be using QuickBooks on this computer. IfyoudonotwantotherusersinyournetworktohaveaccesstotheQuickBookscompanyfilesonthiscomputer

• I’ll be using QuickBooks on this computer, AND I’ll be storing our company file here so it can be shared over our network. ToallowotherusersinyournetworkaccesstotheQuickBookscompanyfilesstoredonthiscomputer

• I will NOT be using QuickBooks on this computer. I will be storing our company file here so it can be shared over our network. 1 InserttheQuickBooksCDintoyourCD-ROMdrive.TheQuickBooksinstallationprogramstartsautomatically.

2 Followtheon-screeninstructionstochoosethetypeofinstallationforyourcomputer.Notethatyouwillneedyourlicencenumberandproductnumbertoinstallyoursoftware.YoucanfindtheseonyouremailreceiptfromIntuitLtd.

3 InstallQuickBooksEnterpriseSolutions.Thisprocesswilltakeabout20minutespercomputer,dependingonyoursystem’sperformance.

Important During the installation process you will be asked whether you want to install Enterprise Solutions General BusinessorEnterpriseSolutionsProfessionalServices.

The only difference between these 2 editions is that ProfessionalServicescontainssomecustom-builtreportsthatyou can use:

• UnbilledExpensesbyProjectreport–seealistofexpenses that have not been billed to the customer onaspecificproject

• Billed/Unbilled Hours reports – see a list of the hours billed orunbilledagainstaspecificproject

Before you upgrade your company fileFind your last VAT return(s): LocatethelastVATreturnsthatyoufiledandhavethemwithyouwhenyoustarttheupgradeprocess.Youneedinformationfromthesereturnstoupgradeyourcompanydata.

Your payment details: LocatethepaymentorrefundinformationforyourlastVATpaymentincludinghowmuchwaspaidorreceivedandthedateforwhichitwaspaid.

Make a backup of your old company file(s): QuickBookspreventsyoufromoverwritingyouroriginalcompanyfileduringtheupgradeprocess.However,foraddedsafety,makeabackupbeforeyoustart.

Starting the upgrade process

Important If you are upgrading from QuickBooks 2006orearlier,theamountoftimeitwilltaketoupgradelargelydepends on the number of transactions in your company file. You can estimate the upgrade time based on the file size:

• Lessthan100MB:Mostfileswilltakelessthananhour

YoumighthavetoadjustforVAToverpaymentorunderpaymentifthereweretransactionsinyourpriorversion’sdatafilethat:

• ContainedVATbutnoVATcodes

• WeremodifiedafterVATwasfiled

ThecurrentVATmodelensuresthatVATreportsalwaysagreewiththeVATliabilityaccountbalance,nomatterhoworwhenyourecordedtransactions.Inearlierversionsifyoudidn’tusetheFileVATfeature,orifatransactiondidn’thaveaVATcodeorwasmodifiedafteryoufiledVAT,thenyoucouldhaveunreportedVATamounts.Inthecurrentmodel,transactionsthataremis-enteredandhaveunreportedamountsareincludedinthetotalVATliabilityaccountbalance.Duringtheupgradeprocess,QuickBooksdetectsthetotalunreportedamountfromoldtransactions;youcanadjusttheVAToverpaymentorunderpaymentthat’sbeenidentified.

WhenyouclickAdjust for VAT overpayment or underpayment QuickBookslaunchestheResolveYourVATfeaturewhichwalksyouthroughavailableoptionstoreconcilethetotalunreportedVATamount.

Recreate custom form templates with the Template Wizard

Becauseofimprovementstobusinessformcustomisation,formattingofbusinessformsfromQuickBooks2006andearliercannotbeupgraded.
