Working & studying

The main purpose of a student visa is to allow international students to study full-time in New Zealand.

Many students find part-time employment in the hospitality and service industries including restaurants, bars and supermarkets. In New Zealand there are laws to protect our workers.

Find out more about your rights and responsibilities working in New Zealand at www.nzstudywork.immigration.govt.nz

For those eligible to work, the following websites can be very helpful:

www.seek.co.nzwww.trademe.co.nzwww.sjs.co.nz (Student Job Search). You can also look for job opportunities on the WITT Facebook page and noticeboards around campus.

The adult minimum wage rate (before tax) for employees aged 16 or over is $18.90 per hour from 1 April 2020.

Life at WITT isn’t all hard work, however, learning in a second language, learning new concepts and new ideas can be tiring.

It’s good to balance your learning with plenty of fun and that’s why we organise activities to encourage you to mingle with other students and to experience kiwi life.

As an international student in New Zealand you may be eligible to work up to 20 hours a week and full-time during scheduled holidays.
