전략 3 휴가에 관련해서 같은 수준의 질문으로는 다음과 같은 것이 있다.

을 의미한다.

➋ 동사 관용어구 catch up은 여러 가지 의미로 사용된다. ‘수업을 따라가다, 빠르게 가서 앞선 사람을 따

Just recently I had a problem when I took a short trip to Ireland

to visit one of our business partners. As there was no direct fl ight

from Korea to Ireland, I had a stopover in Paris. It should have been

just a two hour stopover but when I checked in at Incheon airport,

I was informed that my connecting fl ight had been canceled due

to a strike. I tried to get a seat on the next fl ight but that was fully

booked so I had to wait around the airport in Paris for over 7 hours!

The only good thing was that I could spend more time preparing

my presentation.

When you arrive at the station, you discover that your train has already left, so you will be late for meeting your friend. Please imagine that you’re calling your friend to tell him or her. Tell the friend what has happened and suggest what you should do.

전략 2 이런 질문 유형은 상황 설명 능력을 측정하는 유형이므로 ‘논리적이고 설득력 있게’ 상황을 설

명할 수 있어야 한다. 그리고 이후에는 현실적인 대안이나 제안을 제시할 수 있어야 한다. 높은

점수를 받으려면 실제로 전화를 하는듯한 연기력이 필요하다.

전략 3 이런 질문 유형이 반드시 한 문제 이상 출제되는데 막힘없이 제대로 답변을 할 수 있다면 AL 등

급을 받을 수도 있기 때문에 철저하게 준비를 해두어야 한다.

전략 1 해외 출장이나 해외여행에 관련된 영역에서 출제되는 가장 기본적인 문제 유형이다.

전략 2 이 문제가 요구하는 것은 해외여행에서 흔히 할 수 있는 활동에 대해 설명하는 것인데, 누구나

쉽게 할 수 있는 주요 활동들을 3~4가지 다룬다. 만약 남들하고 다른 자신만의 특별한 활동이

있다면 답변의 후반부에서 언급하는 것이 좋다. 동사는 현재시제로 유지한다.

while I am abroad as it can enable you to connect more with the

place that you are visiting.

UNIT555 첫 번째 해외여행 소개



The fi rst time I went abroad was a few years ago when I took the

ferry to Japan with some of my friends from university. We traveled

from Busan to Fukuoka by high-speed hydrofoil and it only took 3

hours. We decided to go by hydrofoil because it would be different

and wasn’t much slower than taking an airplane. We only had two

days to spend there so once we arrived, we checked in to our hotel

and then spent our time enjoying the atmosphere and nightlife in

Fukuoka. It’s a really lively city, very cosmopolitan and we had a

great time mixing with the locals. I can’t wait to go back.



몇 년 전에 페리를 타고 대학 친구들 몇 명과 일본에 간 것이 외국에 처음 간 것입니다. 저희는 부산에서 후쿠오카까지 고속 수

모두 부대상황(동시 상황)을 나타낸다.

전략 3 이번 질문에서는 여행을 할 때 공항에서 생길 수 있는 상황을 제시하고 있다. 반드시 주어진 상

황에 대한 설명을 먼저 하고 이어서 3~4가지 질문을 해야 한다.

는 문제들 중 가장 난이도가 높은 유형이다.

전략 2 이런 문제에 대한 적절한 답변할 수 있다면 IH 이상의 등급도 가능하기 때문에 철저하게 대비해

야 한다. 문제가 어렵다는 1차적인 이유는 우선 제시되는 질문의 길이가 상당히 길다는 것이다.

질문을 제대로 이해하지 못하면 적절한 답변을 할 수 없기 때문에 이런 질문들은 원어민 음성을

통해 몇 번이고 반복 청취해서 정확하게 이해할 수 있도록 연습이 필요하다.

전략 3 이런 질문을 이해했다면 브레인스토밍을 통해 어떤 상황을 어떻게 설명할 것인지 신속하게 생

각해내야 한다. Sample Answer를 통해 답변의 구성과 전개를 확인하고 이것을 바탕으로 자신

의 경험을 이용해서 답변을 창작하는 것도 좋은 방법이다.

Once I had a problem with my vacuum cleaner. The cleaner wasn’t

picking up any dirt and at fi rst I thought it was the vacuum itself.

I called the after-sales service number and they told me it might

take up to two weeks to fi x it. So, I tried to fi x it myself! After testing

it for a while, I realized that the problem was that the hose was

blocked. I got to work trying to fi x it and the fi rst thing I did was to

detach the hose itself. I brought it into the bathroom and ran water

through it for a while and this did the trick. The amount of stuff

that came out was disgusting but I managed to get it all out and it

worked perfectly again.
