1.2 Dorsoduro - Palazzo Contarini Polignac dal Zaffo “Dansaekhwa”
The exhibition will showcase the works of key masters who defined Dansaekhwa’s
development in the 1970s, providing an essential conceptual framework to appreciate this
important movement. A subject of renewed interest in both Korea and internationally, this is a
timely exhibition that explores a group of artists whose exquisitely beautiful and politically
engaged work continues to have a profound influence on contemporary art. The participating
artists are Chung Chang-Sup, Chung Sang-Hwa, Ha Chong-Hyun, KIM Whanki, Kwon Young-
Woo, Lee Ufan and Park Seo-Bo.
1.3 Dorsoduro - Fondamenta Nani: Sweet Death
http://www.biennaleguatemala.com/
The theme of the exhibition, conceived and directed by me, inspired by the book of Thomas
Mann, the film of Visconti, from the opera by Britten, but mainly deals with the concept of
“death-finitude” understood as decline and loss of values in contemporary society, but all
expressed through the language of joy and color, using a gentle approach and cuteness.

2.1 (FI) Finland: IC-98 (duo) “Hours, Years, Aeons” 2015
Animation by Markus Lepistö.
Music composed by Max Savikangas
IC-98 is artists Visa Suonpää (b. 1968) and Patrik Söderlund (b. 1974). IC-98 projects often
take the form of installations or publications, combining research, drawing and animation.
Their intensely abstracted, identifiable visual language weaves myriad bridges between the
material and mythical, individual and collective, nature and culture. The investigations running
through the works concern the body politic, social formations and architectural constructions,
heresies and pure systems of thought, and the presence of history in everyday life.
2.2 (AT) Austria: Heimo Zobernig
Heimo Zobernig’s contribution to the 56th International Art Exhibition responds directly to the
existing exhibition situation in the Austrian Pavilion designed by Josef Hoffmann and Robert
Kramreiter and built in 1934. With its classical rounded arches and majestic visual axes, on the
one hand, and its clear rational forms and modern materials, on the other, the structure shifts
between historicity and modernism. Zobernig removes the building’s historicizing architectural
elements from sight by means of a black monolith that seems to hover under the ceiling
casting its shade on the entire floor space of the pavilion, and a black floor construction that
eliminates the pavilion’s different levels. At the same time, Zobernig’s complex intervention
relativizes the bounds between architectural space and nature, inside and outside. His
architectural intervention, whose isometric plans recall Mies van der Rohe’s Nationalgalerie in
Berlin, together with the garden and rear wall of the courtyard, constitutes an enclosed site
where one can linger and reflect on art’s modes of presentation and on human presence in
space.

2.3 (EG) Egypte
The installation at the Egyptian Pavilion at thr 56th Venice Biennale consists of five three
dimensional shapes that forms letters of the word PEACE covered with grass.

The Ways of Folding Space & Flying (still), 2015.- HD film installation, 10 minutes, 30 seconds
The Ways of Folding Space & Flying, a new multi-channel film installation, explores an
archaeological quest into human civilization that interweaves history with visions of the future
as told through a future-retrospective narrative. The project also alludes to the institutional
structure and historic evolution of the Venice Biennale itself, the scale and influence of which
have been acquired within a shifting socio-political landscape.
Working in collaboration since 2009, the duo has developed a critically acclaimed body of
work, including the film installation News from Nowhere, which was first shown at the
dOCUMENTA (13) in Kassel in 2012.

2.5 (JP) Japan: Chiharu Shiota (JP 1972) “The key in the hand”
intitulée « The key in the hand ».
2.6 (UY) Uruguay: Marco Maggi (1957) “Global Myopia” pencil & paper*
Born in Montevideo, Uruguay in 1957. Lives and works in New York and Montevideo.

(RKS) Kosovo: Flaka Haliti “Speculating on the Blue”
www.kosovopavilion.com
For her solo presentation at the Kosovo Pavilion Flaka Haliti conceived the site-specific
installation Speculating on the Blue reflecting on the meaning of borders, democracy,
freedom and mobility.
The skeletons of barrier-like objects that occupy the exhibition space are a reference to the
aesthetics of the concrete walls that are erected between nations and regions as a
materialization of conflict. Haliti’s installation aims at de-militarizing and de-contextualizing
this specific aesthetic regime by stripping the columns down to their material essence and
juxtaposing them with elements that are by nature resistant to the concept of borders. In
this scenario, the horizon and the blue pictorial ground create a counter image to the
concept of borders and function as a tool to raise new perspectives. The interplay of the
elements and the different images they generate is the artist’s method for creating an
intermediate space that allows for the subjective experience of viewers engaging with her
work.
Her approach is one of recontextualizing global politics through disconnection from its
regime of appearance. The metaphor of the horizon, simultaneously emblem of possibility
and enigma of our limitations is woven into the fabric of our past and present. By drawing on
the universal meaning of this metaphor, the artist removes the image economy of the
horizon from any specific spatial-temporal context and speculates on its validity as an eternal
truth.

(ID) Indonesia: Heri Dono (1960) ”Voyage trokomod”.
Heri Dono's artwork combines a Trojan horse—a figure that repeatedly occurs in his works—
with Indonesia's famed giant lizard, the Komodo dragon. With this mythic hybrid the artist
aims to ironically counter-attack traditional Western notions of the East, while exploring
Indonesia's place and his own in the world. "Trokomod," he notes, "is like an ancient animal
made futuristic. It comes out of the part of the world that is like a blank spot in the world of
fine arts." Now, he suggests, "is the time to speak up."
(TR) Turkey: Sarkis (Istanbul 1938 woont in Frankrijk) “Respiro”

3.3 Castello - Sant’Antonin church: Conversion Recycle Group
mail Gazalli art house
Curated by James Putnam, Conversion, is a new large site specific installation by the Recycle
Group (Andrey Blokhin & Georgy Kuznetsov) which focuses on the stream of virtual
information that now flows endlessly from computers and mobile devices into all spheres of
human activity. The Recycle Group’s project seems appropriate in context to the Biennale’s
theme of ‘All the World’s Futures’ and Karl Marx’s notion of Historical Materialism.
‘Conversion’ proposes a parallel between the Christian enlightenment and the digital
technological revolution where sacred knowledge formerly residing in the heavens is now
located in the virtual space of ‘The Cloud’.

o Personal Structures : Crossing Borders (Info mail Gazalli art house)
The EUROPEAN CULTURAL CENTRE exhibition "Personal Structures - Crossing
Borders" shows the commonness and differences between Europeans, this in
Dialogue with works of Non-Europeans. In addition the exhibition stimulates a more
conscious relationship from the spectator towards his daily surrounding aiming to
increase the awareness of their own personal Existence as human beings influenced
by a specific Culture within Space and Time.
For the exhibition of the 56th Venice Biennale, Wolfgang Pavlik created a work in
monumental scale, an assembly of individual back of heads, entitled: You don’t
know me. Its wide ranged presentation shows a focus on the process of the
European integration with a critical eye on the political dichotomy and cultural split
of a continent between North and South, East and West. Pavlik is showcasing at the
Venice Biennale in artistic dialogue with: Carl Andre, Daniel Buren, Guenther Uecker,
Francois Morellet, Herman Nitsch, Richard Long, Yoko Ono, Lawrence Weiner, among
others.
In the overwhelming process of market expansion and political unification we
universally face the exploitable attributes of all-embracing social collaboration and
utilization while the unusable human residuum gets increasingly faceless. What
remains to the intractable individual in contrast is a restricted view, a selection of
pre-existing inner images and their layout.

Palazzo Fortuny The mathematics of life and art
With architect Tatsuro Miki, Vervoordt has designed five architectural pavilions on the ground
floor, each built according to ‘sacred dimensions’ and providing a spatial embodiment of the
proportional principles for visitors to experience as they walk through the empty, almost
abstract spaces. ‘This is a new, unknown world for me,’ says Vervoordt. ‘It is the macro cosmos
and the micro cosmos, where the same proportions appear.’

bieden.
presentatie over “the integral essence of a people divided, a history which spans antiquity,
colonial modernity and a cosmopolitan present entangled in conflict”, aldus het persbericht..

5.8 San Marco - Palazzo Bembo (Rialto): "Personal Structures - Crossing Borders"
The EUROPEAN CULTURAL CENTRE exhibition "Personal Structures - Crossing Borders" shows
the commonness and differences between Europeans, this in Dialogue with works of Non-
Europeans. Visually, the artworks may appear very different. Their common ground is the
artist's subjective, personal expression of his or her reflection on the concepts Time, Space and
Existence.
The exhibition mainly presents recent artworks by living artists, either site-specific, especially
made for this exhibition, or coming directly out of the collection of the artist.
Some rooms in the Palazzo's are dedicated to the presentation of a single artist, while other
rooms will host a combination of projects and works.
The exhibition features a broad variety of artistic media; video, sculptures, paintings, drawings,
photos and installations. Since the more than 100 participating artists originate from very
diverse cultures representing over 50 countries and are also of very different age, the topics
Time - Space and Existence are highlighted from unusual, very personal points of view.
