2. 2. Conventions of hip-hop Magazines Through various researches I learnt a lot about conventions of music genres that appeal to all audiences. Some of the basic conventions that may be used for a hip-hop magazine are Iconography Close up or low angle shot Artists in the middle of the page Masthead above the artist Special terminology Jewellery Chains Hats (slanted sometimes) Money Feature both genders Facial expression (angry or snarled) Free gift/album etc.
3. 3. Related conventions Conventions which helped to create a effective music magazine. One convention I used was having the artist in the front cover with the masthead on top, I have chosen this convention because it makes an impact on the whole magazine and follows the same theme, which will attract a similar audience. Another convention I used was the facial expression of the artist. I chose the snarled facial expression to make him intimidating to the audience for a stereotypical look.
4. 4. more Related conventions In magazines, the artist will have their own personal identity and star image but they will be shown in a way that looks similar to other rappers. This is not the case for my magazine. The artist Im using has business attire, which suggests his own personal identity shown in a different way compared to the other rappers. However, I still used the similar layout we are use to i.e. the position of the artist is placed on the front cover of the magazine. The convention of giving out something free in a magazine is way of showing consideration for the audience. I chose to use this convention for the audiences attraction
