Firstly the main way in which our media products use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products is the way in which we use the conventions of a normal trailer. For example, right at the beginning of our trailer, we had a shot of information from the MPAA. We wanted to use the BBFC but it was too difficult to find the information, therefore we had to settle for the next best.

Our next shot was information on our production company. Production company information often appears at the beginning of film trailers, this is one of the conventions that we purposely followed when creating our trailer. We also put a well-known production company at the beginning of our trailer in order to get the audience attention, and for them to recognise the producers of the film.

Another way in which our main media product follows the conventions of real media products is the typography that we use in our trailer. In real horror trailers, we often see the conventional dark background with white writing in this type of genre and this is something that we used in our trailer.

In terms of conventional costumes, we felt that we would like our film to be

more naturalistic to make it appeal to our audience even more. We felt that it was vitally important to have quick cut and

editing in our trailer. We did this in order to meet the conventions of a trailer.

In addition to that, another element that we added to our horror trailer as part of the traditional codes and conventions is that that we added conventional sound to our trailer. In order for our trailer to look like a horror, we had to make it sound like one. In our horror trailer we tried to make traditional horror music, in the sense that it created a sense of anxiety and tension.

In terms of our magazine, we took ideas from the leading film magazine company called “Empire.” We took vital parts of the magazine and ensured that we had them in our magazine. Examples of this are the use of the barcode and the title colours etc.

In terms of our poster, we used the conventional colours of the horror genre. For example, we had a dark background with white bold writing. This already shows that we are following the codes and the conventions of the genre.
