證明 a = b for every a, b ∈ N對 max (a, b) 做數學歸納法case max (a, b) = 0: a = 0 = b, done.設

max (a, b) = n⇒ a = b

成立。當 max (a, b) = n + 1 時,

max (a, b) = n + 1⇒ max (a − 1, b − 1) = n⇒ a − 1 = b − 1⇒ a = b

some by shaving themselvessome by attending the barber.

The barber shaves all and only those men who do not shavethemselves.

seems reasonable.

Does the barber shave himself?
