The Center introduces the local art scene to the international art world by assisting artists in realizing their projects abroad and serving as an information liaison for international professionals.

SÍM is a non-profit organization and works for the wide professional interests of Icelandic visual artists. The association runs an office and information centre for its members in addition to a showroom in the SÍM-house.

Ásgrímur Jónsson (1876 – 1958) is one of the pioneers of Icelandic art. The Ásgrímur Jónsson Museum hosts the artist’s studio and home. The museum regularly holds exhibitions of the artist’s works.

This renovated ware-house by the harbour boasts a permanent exhibition by pop artist Erró (b. 1932) and experimental exhibitions by local and international contemporary artists.

Gerðarsafn is an art museum founded in honour of artist Gerður Helgadóttir (1928 – 1975). A wide range of temporary exhibitions of modern and contemporary art are displayed at the museum.
