IBM Watson’s cognitive
assistance system helps physicians
diagnose patients:
IBM and Rhön-Klinikum AG (RKA) set up a 12-month pilot project to develop a cognitive assistant to diagnose rare diseases. Around 400Million people worldwide suffer from one of more than 8000 rare diseases. Clues for a possible diagnosis is made from their medical history.
The challenge is to find the right data within the huge amount of existing data. Within 4 years the medical knowledge will double and for using it in an efficient way the need for a cognitive assistant system is high.
On that account IBM and RKA teamed up to build a cognitive system which can built knowledge, understand natural language and provide confidence waited responses. The assistant will also be able to distract relevant information from huge data sets and in various formats to discover new insights to make evidence based decisions.
