Introduction

GS-Hydro maintains a large stock of carbon and stainless steel pipes & tubes to be utilised in hydraulic and other piping

systems:

Original GS-Hydro high pressure piping can be recognised

from the marking GS Piping.

In order to ensure quality and traceability GS-Hydro can

deliver the pipes and tubes with either EN-10204.3.1.B

or EN-10204.3.1.C certificates (in accordance with EU

standard EN 10204 (DIN 50049)). The required certificate,

if any, has to be specified by the purchaser.

GS-Hydro recommends the use of cold drawn pipes &

tubes due to quality (precision in dimension and shape) and

cleanliness reasons (no scale) As a comparison hot rolled

tubes will always have some scale both inside and out due

to the manufacturing process; by cold forming there will

not be any scale inside the tube after the manufacturing.

All precision steel pipes are supplied with trace numbers.

Stainless steel pipes & tubesGS-Hydro maintains a large stock of stainless steel tubes

in AISI316L seamless quality from 6 mm to 80 mm O.D.

(=Outer Diameter). Larger O.D. tubes are supplied upon

special order. Seamless cold drawn stainless steel tube

to ASTM A269 / A213 (A.W.) – O.D. x W.T. – Grade TP

316L can be supplied with EN - 10204.3.1.B certificate

upon request. The tubes are supplied at a standard length

of 6 m. All tubes are supplied plugged with plastic caps.

Carbon steel pipes & tubesGS-Hydro stocks cold drawn seamless high tensile hydraulic

tube according to DIN 2391C(EN 10305-4) – O.D. x W.T.

– DIN 1630–ST52.4(E 355 N). High tensile strength tube

means higher permissible working pressures and reduced

wall thickness, leading to reduced overall weight. GS-Hydro

also stocks DIN 2391C(EN 10305-4) – O.D. x W.T. – DIN

1630–ST37.4(E 235 N).

Tubes are supplied in an annealed condition and are

suitable for cold bending and flaring. External phosphating

gives corrosion protection and a good base for a paint finish.

Tubes up to an O.D. of 75 mm can be supplied electric

zinc plated + yellow passivated or blue passivated (Cr VI-

free alternative) for additional corrosion protection. As all

original GS-Hydto tubes are marked with trace numbers

the tubes can be supplied with certificates in accordance to

EN 10204.3.1.B, if requested. Cerfitication according to EN

10204.3.1.C is also available upon request. The tubes are

supplied at a standard length of 6 m up to 97 mm. Larger

O.D. tubes are supplied in random lengths from 4 to 7 m. All

tubes are supplied plugged with plastic caps.

The Tubes are phosphated and oiled inside and outside, and supplied with EN - 10204.3.1.B Certificate. Standard lengths 6m. All tubes are plugged with plastic caps.

Definitions of tube/pipe: All tubes are specified with outside dia. in millimeters or inches. All pipes are specified with normal dia. For example a 2” N.D. pipe will measure 60.3 mm O.D. on pipe, and the wall thickness has to be specified.

6.4.4. Det Norske Veritas requirement for maximum woeking pressure

Required burst pressure of 4 times maxi-mum allowable working pressure may be reduced according to the curve in Fig. 6.1, when the working pressures are above 207 bars ( 3000 psi )

NOTE: When cold bending a pipe or tube, the yield and tensility increases and the elongation decreases. There-fore a cold bent pipe can take more pressure than a straight pipe. Unfortunately the calculation code does not take this into consideration, it bases this on the reduction in wallth-ickness due to cold bending.

Multicore Tubes

General InformationGS-Hydro’s multicore tubes are used for pneumatic and hydraulic remote control,

measuring and monitoring systems. In addition to the multicore tubes, GS-Hydro also

supplies the necessary connection tools and accessories such as heat shrinkable

products, tube joint fittings, tube cutter and bending tools as well as trays, supports

and binding tape for installation.

The multicore tube consists of one to nine

stainless steel, copper or copper-alloy tubes

laid up spirally inside an extruded outer PVC

sheath. For easy identification and protection

purposes each individual tube is PVC sheathed

in a different color. The extruded outersheath is

made of oil and sea water resistant, weather-

proof, flame-retardant, corrosion and acid

resistant PVC. The multicore tube (outer sheath)

is continuously marked at every one meter

throughout the entire length for easy installation.

Heat shrinkable products provide complete water

sealing and abrasion and corrosion protection

under all conditions.

Installation and AssemblyThe installation of the multicore tubes - the uncoiling from

the wooden shipping drum, straightening, running and

cutting – is done in the same manner as when installing

electrical cables.

The multicore tubes are uncoiled directly from sturdy

wooden reels onto ladder, perforated or flat-bar (or eq.)

trays. Deck and/or bulkhead penetrations are made by

either coaming or by appropriate penetration fittings.

Suitable fittings such as straight union, male/female

connector, penetration gland etc. are utilised for

connection or termination of the tube. Multicore tubes

can also be welded but the use of bite type fittings is

recommended.

Repeated bending at the same point should be

avoided in order to avoid breakage. Where there is a

possibility of expansion and/or contraction along the

line, proper provisions should be made for loops and

curves along the tube line.
