Patrika September Edition Hello members
Wondering where is September Patrika?
No, it wasn’t just your email address that it didn’t get
to.
Author aka Kaveesh prepared it before he went
touring Europe for some days for publishing but
as our ‘systems were down’ and we were
encountering ‘some delays’ it could not be sent
out on time due to ‘some technical issues’.
(Trust me it is better than being told that the plane you are
going to take had ‘some technical issues’ in its previous
flight)
So we thought, we might as well surprise you with 2
patrikas togethers (and a big attachment in an
email!)
Enjoy both newsletters this time
To compensate for that, here are some photos from
my Europe trip! 4

Phulwari Update नन्िे मनु्ने बच्चे तेरी मटु्ठी मं क्या िै
Our Hindi Samaj ‘nanha munhas’ had a lot to offer and
show to their elders. Busting with happiness, lively
and colorful performances fuelled by their unlimited
energies was an evening of fun and enjoyment.
As kids showcased their immense talent, the usual DJ
man was still coping with his 8 hour jet lag having
returned to Perth less than 24 hours ago before the
show began. Even the slight sound hiccups were
shadowed by the amazing performances that kids put
on stage. HI5 to all involved. Great work little
champions.
Parents, take them out and buy them an ice cream, they
deserve it. Present them their certificates again on
their next birthday and let them be proud of their
achievements among all their friends.
Here are some glimpses from the evening
Enjoy

NAVARATHIRI FESTIVAL-2011
28th September – 6th October 2011
History:
Navarathri or „nine nights‟ is a Hindu festival which pays respects to three Hindu goddesses: Durga,
Lakshmi and Saraswathy. Navarathiri is symbolic for the defeat of Mahishasuran by Goddess
Devi who took the form as Sri Mahishasura Mardini (Chandika Devi). The battle raged for nine
days and nights. Finally on the tenth day of Ashwin shukla paksha, Sri Durga defeated and killed
the evil demon Mahishasuran and ushered peace on earth. It is in praise of this victory that Devi
is worshiped as Sri Durga on the first three days; as Sri Lakshmi from the fourth to the sixth day
and finally as Sri Saraswathy on the last three days.
The tenth day is celebrated as Vijaya Dasami marking the final victory of the three goddesses over
Mahishasuran. On this day, Sri Meenakshi Somasuntharar will give darshan in a procession
following the most auspicious ceremony of “Ambu Poduthal” (an event which captures the battle
with and the defeat of Mahishasuran).
PARTICIPATION:
Navarathiri will be celebrated on a very grand scale in the new temple. Special poojas
comprising Abishekam, Sahasranama Archana, Salanga pooja, Kanya pooja, Vidya pooja, and
cultural programmes have also been organised. Devotees are warmly invited to participate as a
family in this major celebration of the year and, enjoy the colours and the different alankarams
of Devi.
Please do come and seek the blessings of Sri Meenakshi, Sri Ashtadasabhuja Mahalakshmi Durga and
Sri Maha Mariamman for peace, good health, happiness, long life, good job prospects, good
education, growth of artistic talents, and removal of obstacles.
HOW TO PARTICIPATE?
Devotees may provide any or all of the following during the Navarathiri festival: milk, yoghurt,
sandle wood powder, tumeric powder, loose flowers, garlands, fruits and etc. You may
participate in the special sangalpam pooja at 7pm daily at a cost of $31 only. Alternatively, you
may host a day as part of a group. Consult the day host coordinator, list printed overleaf, for
details. You may also contact the Resident Priest on 9455 2097or Temple Administrator for more
information.
Those who wish to participate in this year’s Navarthri cultural programs please email to the
coordinator on [email protected] au or contact 0417929934

Swan Festival of Lights
The Temple of Fine Arts and Annalakshmi Cultural Centre of
WA are proud to present the fourth annual Swan Festival
of Lights, from 21 – 22 October 2011 at the Supreme
Court Gardens, Perth.
This festival coincides with the most celebrated Indian
festival, Deepavali. While it is popularly known as the
"Festival of Lights", the most significant spiritual meaning
of Deepavali is "the awareness of the inner light”.
Attracting around 20,000 people over 4 days last year, the
Swan Festival of Lights is a multicultural festival with a
difference, featuring some of the best multicultural artists
representing WA’s various ethnic groups and a variety of
mouthwatering vegetarian cuisine prepared by
Annalakshmi On The Swan, as well as fun activities for
children.
With support from the Bell Tower and City of Perth this year’s
festival will showcase everything from the vibrant
Ukrainian Cossack dance to India’s famous epic, The
Ramayana. This is not only an alcohol and smoke free
event but also an entrance FREE festival.
The festival opens at 4.30 pm and the performances start at
6.00pm.
For more info about the festival, please visit www.sfol.com.au

Zakir Hussain – LIVE in
Perth: Free Concert International drumming sensation Zakir Hussain brings his
Masters of Percussion performance to the stage to
complete the evening. A classical tabla virtuoso of the
highest order, Zakir is a national treasure in his country,
India, and has achieved worldwide acclaim. For this
performance he is joined by the dancing drummers of
Manipur, whose acrobatic choreography creates an
energetic percussion finale.
Light and fireworks illuminate Supreme Court Gardens as the
evening’s musical journey concludes, a symbol of new
beginnings and hope.
This event is alcohol free. Non-alcoholic beverages and a
variety of Indian food will be on sale. There will be space
for you to set up a picnic blanket; but please don’t bring
any glass items. The weather could get cold so come
prepared.
Some of the great Indian food available for purchase at the
event is thanks to the organisers of the Swan Festival of
Light, which is being held in the days preceding the
Commonwealth Festival - 21 to 22 October. For more
information visit the Festival of Light website.
