Design HeritageWhat is Heritage?

Heritage can be described as the

identity o a city. Part o the identity is

its valuesa way o live and living.

Values which Christchurch promotes

are the garden/green spaces and the

pedestrian-centric city.

Our previous research shows that Her-

itage is a refection o technology andmaterials o the time, as well as a citys

values e.g. Churchreligious, Victo-

rian styleBritish heritage,

Brutalismpopular trend/ availability

o concrete, Modernismpopular

trend...etc.

Christchurchs present and uture

values are the pedestrian and the

green garden. My aim is to develop an

architectural language and pro-

gramme which promotes these values

to its people.

This architecture language aims to

make statements about these values

through its orm, programme, orna-

mentation and materials.

Precedents which refect values:

Villa Savoye: value machine/cars and

industrial age

Himeji Castle: value military deenseand high technology (cannons)

Empire state building: value corporate

branding and competition

Beijing International Airport: value

Chinese heritage, superstition and

culture.

I want to design a building that reminds people when

they look at it that walking and enjoying
