Organizations Within The Band Program

Symphonic Band/Concert Band After pep band season, the band will be organized intotwo performing ensembles. Students will be placed in

either ensemble based on an audition measuringmusical ability and knowledge. Each band allowsstudents to learn performance skills in order tounderstand the musical language and to develop acapacity for understanding and appreciating music.Students will perform a variety of literature to improvetheir musical skills and usually will give two or threeconcerts each school year.

Percussion EnsembleAll students enrolled in the band program as

percussionists are members of the percussionensemble. Besides preparing band music forperformance with the pep band, symphonic band, concert band, and jazz band, students will studypercussion techniques and form various percussionensembles that will be performed throughout the year. The percussion ensemble will play at the wintersymphonic/concert band performance and also give aconcert at the end of the academic year.

 Musical Orchestra

Students wishing to play in the musical orchestra mustaudition and are selected by the director. Thisorchestra is a combination of wind and string students. It provides the music for the high school's springmusical. Jazz band meets during our class period aspart of our curriculum and on Tuesday evenings asnecessary from 7:00-8:30 p.m. Students will perform avariety of literature to improve their musical skills andusually will give two or three concerts each schoolyear.

Chamber EnsemblesChambers ensembles are an important part of our

program. Our goal with chamber ensembles is toprovide students with another outlet for performing, toencourage students to prepare music on their own andtake full responsibility for their performance, and toapply skills learned through this assignment to thelarge ensemble. Students should work with theirensemble partners along with guidance from thedirectors in preparation for scheduled performanceslisted on the band calendar.
