Ianesco in France and Albee in America both wrote mid-century, in a world shaken by war, political revolution, Dada, and atomic theory. Director Alan

Huisman has chosen these two plays as representative examples of the Theater of the Absurd. The readings will feature Huisman, Cary Wendell, Susan Turner, Barbara Hilton, and Peggi Mc-Carthy. PORTSMOUTH –In its first collaboration,

the Seacoast Jazz Society and the Portsmouth Music and Arts Center (PMAC) have joined forces to present Dr. Nathan Jor-gensen in a lecture titled “Char-lie Parker: The Short Life of a Brilliant Musician.” The lecture will be presented on Sunday, February 15, 3 p.m., at PMAC’s facilities at 973 Islington Street in Portsmouth.

The iconic Charlie Parker was a quintessentially influen-tial saxophonist, a remarkable improviser, and one of the pri-mary architects of bebop in the 1940s, an inspiration to genera-tions of jazz musicians right up to today.

Dr. Nathan Jorgensen is the new Director of Jazz Studies at the University of New Hamp-shire. Prior to his appointment at UNH, Dr. Jorgensen was the As-sistant Professor of Woodwinds at South Dakota State Universi-ty, where he led award-winning jazz bands, toured Europe with his groups, and was instrumen-tal in growing the SDSU/Brook-ings Optimist Jazz Festival to one of the best educational festi-vals in South Dakota.

The Seacoast Jazz Soci-ety is a non-profit organization whose mission is to promote an understanding of and enthusiasm for jazz in the New Hampshire/Maine Seacoast area. In addition to its ongoing lecture series, SJS presents free jazz performance-and-audience discussion events, organizes regular jazz listening sessions, sends a regular email newsletter of upcoming local jazz events, supports guest artists at local jazz venues, and partners with other jazz organizations. Dover Public LibrarySchool Vacation Week Fun

Saturday, February 21Legos Day in the Children’s Room. Gordon Lubbers, owner of Bricks 4 Kidz, will be here from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with specially engineered Lego motorized model kits and instruc-tions. At 2 p.m., there will be a free showing of “Alexander and the Ter-rible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day” (PG; 1 hr., 21 minutes).

Monday, February 23There will be a free screening of “Disneynature: Earth” at 2 p.m. This epic adventure follows three animal families: polar bears, elephants, and humpback whales, on a planet-wide journey. That evening at 6:30 p.m., girls in grades 3-6 are invited to join our STEM program. Miss Rachel,

an engineer, will lead participants in building simple structural designs.

Tuesday, February 24Join us for a fascinating program about Marine Mammals by docents from UNH's Sea Grant Sea Trek Pro-gram. A 2 p.m. session is tailored for pre-K to 2nd graders and a 3 p.m. session will welcome 3rd graders and up. Through hands-on activities, children will explore the similarities and differences between marine and land mammals, and the special adaptations that allow for fi nding food, breathing, and staying warm in the Atlantic sea water.

Wednesday, February 24At 10 a.m., Miss Tina will conduct a winter wildlife-themed drop-in story time. All ages are welcome to attend.

Thursday, February 25At 2 p.m. the Seacoast Science Center’s Marine Mammal Rescue Team will talk about their efforts to help stranded, injured or diseased seals, whales, porpoises and dol-phins along the NH seacoast. Their “Save a Seal” program will help children learn about native Gulf of Maine species and what to do if they spot an animal washed up on a beach. After performing a mock rescue, children will earn a special “Seal of Approval” for participating.

Friday, February 27Educators from York’s Center for Wildlife will be at the library at 10 a.m. presenting their new program, “Winter Wildlife Adaptations”. Their animal assistants will include an as-sortment of live raptors, reptiles and mammals up close!

All week longChildren of all ages are invited to make a “Polar Bear” at the Creation

Station in the Children’s Room. All materials will be provided.

Saturday, February 28Wrapping up Wildlife Week will be a showing of “Big Hero 6” (PG; 1 hr., 22 min) at 2 p.m. in the Lecture Hall. None of the library’s School Vacation Week programs require pre-registration and each program is offered free.

For More InformationContact the library at 603-516-6050 or visit www.dover.lib.nh.us.

Rye Public LibraryJewels of the MFAPresented by Emily Stoehrer, Cura-tor of Jewelry, Museum of Fine Arts, Boston on Sunday February 22, at 2 p.m. Stoehrer details the upcom-ing exhibition “Life & Legacy: Louis Féron” which will explore the life and work of the late sculptor, master ciseleur, and jewelry manufacturer, Louis Féron (1901-1998). Recently discovered drawings, now part of the MFA, Boston's permanent col-lection, place Féron amongst the 20th century’s elite jewelers and retailers Borrow MFA tickets from the library.

2014 Federal Tax Forms The IRS changed their plans to wait until the 2015 tax fi ling season to greatly reduce delivery of forms and instructions, and have notifi ed the library that these changes are effective immediately, thereby limit-ing what we will be sent and have to offer our patrons. We will be sent a limited number of basic forms, and basic FAQ type guides to assist you in fi ling on the Internet. These will not include instruction booklets. The library plans to subsidize these basics by printing a limited number

DOVER -Bundle up for the cold

weather and come to the Dover Public Library on Tuesday, Feb. 17, at 6:30 p.m. to participate in a “SkyWatch” under the tutelage of the New Hampshire Astronomi-cal Society. Starting inside with a brief informational session and slide show on “What’s up in To-night’s Sky”, the program will then move outside to telescopes and stargazing!

What happens at a "Sky-Watch"? It’s simply a gathering of amateur astronomers with a focus on public outreach and education. It is beginner-friendly. NHAS members will set up their equipment and carefully align and focus it for you on an inter-esting celestial target, explaining what you are seeing.

It’s important to stay warm! Bring about twice as much warm clothing as you think you will need.

Participants may bring their own telescopes if they desire, but the library’s telescopes, as well as Society members’ telescopes, will be available to use. In the event of a cloudy night, the informational slide show will still take place at 6:30 p.m. This program is free and open to the public. For more information: 603-516-6050.

of instruction booklets that we will offer for short-term circulation just like any other item you might borrow on you library card.

Learn to use the GIS Resource On February 19, at 6 p.m., Town Assessor, David Hynes, will dem-onstrate the many useful applica-tions the Geographical Information Systems or GIS play in every aspect of on-line life today. They provide a powerful combination of information

and mapping. Think of a Google map with pins on all the local coffee shops—that’s GIS. Now apply that same resource to town tax maps cross referenced with multiple data sets. That’s great information for every resident of Rye, which is newly available free of charge via the town website.
