Glucometer

In the entire world, living with diabetes is a problem 220 million

 people deal with every day. As an Industrial Designer, it is my job to create

 products that make managing this chronic disease an easier undertaking.

Ever since it’s inception in 1962, the Glucometer has evolved through many

different stages of functionality. Now, in the year 2010, it advances once

more with the introduction of the GluGo Meter.

•  The GluGo Meter simplifies the entire process of monitoring your blood sugar

levels by combining the Lancet with the device and eliminating the

need for disposable test strips.

•  The GluGo Meter uses a suction cup that instantly directs the

extracted blood towards the internal sensors of the

machine. Once inside, the glucose reacts with refillable

chemicals and creates an electrical signal that can be

interpreted as your current reading.

•  After the reading has been recorded (and compared to

previous ones), the blood can be easily dispensed by

pressing the center Heart button and turning the

Glucometer over. The cup can also be removed

for effortless cleaning.

•  By removing the excess products, the GluGo reduces the amount 

of work and time that goes into your daily checkup. Less

materials equates to less hassle.

Step 1. Prick your skin with the Lancet (be it on your forearm,thigh, stomach or finger tips.)

Step 2. Press suction cup against small wound and transfer a

droplet of blood into machine.

Step 3. Examine and document your current glucose reading.

Step 4. Press Heart Button and dispose of blood.

•  These four steps can provide you with more free time for your on‐

the‐go lifestyle.

•  220 million people using the GluGo Meter technology means 220

million people not using the environmental burden of disposable

test strips.

I designed the GluGo Meter with the user in mind. In order to

discover how to advance the Glucometer, I interviewed family members

and friends who use them and found out what they hated or liked about 

them. As a finished product, I believe the GluGo Meter to be the next 

monumental step in easing the stress that comes with managing

diabetes.
