Generic Enablers (1)
72 GEs are today provided by the FI-Ware project. They are grouped into 6 chapters:
• Applications/Services Ecosystems and Delivery Framework • Cloud Hosting • Data/Context Management • Interface to Networks and Devices • Internet of Things Services Enablement • Security

Generic Enablers (2) : some examples
• Cloud Hosting :– IaaS Data Center Resource Management GE : This GE provides the facilities to provision virtual machines, as well as to associated
compute, storage and network resources. (http://catalogue.fi-ware.eu/enablers/iaas-data-center-resource-management-ge-ibm-implementation)
– IaaS Service Management : This GE is key component to provide an automated control solution over Virtual Machines through scaling up/down and in/out in an automated manner and helps to save valuable time/resources by automating management of failure tasks that need to be done repeatedly. (http://catalogue.fi-ware.eu/enablers/iaas-service-management-claudia)
– Monitoring GE : Monitoring GE is the key component to allow incorporating monitoring and metering mechanisms in order be able to constantly check the performance of the system, but the architecture should be easily extended to collect data for other required needs. Monitoring involves gathering operational data in a running system. (http://catalogue.fi-ware.eu/enablers/monitoring-ge-tid-implementation)
– Object Storage GE : This Generic Enabler provides robust, scalable object storage functionality through an open, standardized interface: it exposes a CDMI interface on top of OpenStack Swift. The CDMI interface provides a standardized mechanism to manipulate both the binary objects that are stored, and the hierarchy of containers in which they are organised. This RESTful API can be accessed from any client technology that can communicate over HTTP. By building on top of OpenStack Swift, all the benefits of this rapidly maturing open-source cloud storage solution can be realized. The highly-available, distributed, and scalable features of swift can be exposed using commodity hardware. (http://catalogue.fi-ware.eu/enablers/object-storage-ge-fi-ware-implementation)
– PaaS Manager : Pegasus orchestrates the provisioning of the required virtual resources at IaaS level and the installation and configuration of the whole software stack of the application, taking into account the underlying virtual infrastructure. It provides a flexible mechanism to perform the deployment, enabling multiple deployment architectures: everything in a single server, several servers, or elastic architectures based on load balancers and different software tiers. Pegasus is a easy way to deploy your applications in the FIWARE Cloud. (http://catalogue.fi-ware.eu/enablers/paas-manager-pegasus)
– Software Management & Configuration : Sagitta (the Software Deployment and Configuration -SDC- GE), which is the key enabler used to support automated deployment (installation and configuration) of software on running virtual machines. As part of the complete process of deployment of applications, the aim of Sagitta is to deploy software product instances upon request of the user using the API or through the Cloud Portal. Specific Enablers: example of FI-Content 2
• Major European and global companies and research centers have joined their skills in the FI-Content 2 initiative to drive innovation at the crossroads of content, media, networks and creativity.
• This initiative aims at developing and experimenting across Europe cutting edge ICT platforms devoted to applications and services in the areas of:– pervasive games, – smart city services, – and social connected TV.
• So far, 22 Specific Enablers have been developed in the FI-Content 2 Project.

Specificic Enablers (2) : some examples
• Smart City Guide :– Reperio (Recommendation Services) : Reperio is a recommendation engine including collaborative and
thematic functionality (recommendation, ranking, prediction). Reperio is content-agnostic and thus can be used on any on collaborative data (logs) or on thematic data (catalogues). (http://mediafi.org/?portfolio=recommendation-services)
– Open City Database : The Open City Database (OCDB) is an open source database for any smart city related data (e.g. points of interest, open city data and related media from various sources). Besides its database functionality the OCDB provides a comprehensive API to create, modify and request data sets for their integration with smart city guide apps or any other application or service that may take advantage of open city data.( http://mediafi.org/?portfolio=open-city-database)
– KIWANO (Virtual / mixed reality) : The Kiwano SE is a scalable spatial database able to manage a large number of moving objects in real time. It is able to record their location with a high frequency of updates and perform searches such as retrieving the list of neighbours of an object. It also implements communication between moving objects with methods for sending data within neighbours. (http://mediafi.org/?portfolio=virtual-mixed-reality)
– Recommendation Services : The Recommendations as a Service (RaaS) SE provides the ability to create a professional recommendation engine with just a few mouse clicks and no programming skills. This SE can maintain your item and user data and will host your recommendation engine as a service in the cloud or on your own server infrastructure. Thereby, decision makers can choose whether to use ratings, likes, check-ins or implicit feedback, such as clicks or consumption time. In addition, they can adjust the way the personalisation works by selecting from a wide range of well-explained algorithms.( http://mediafi.org/?portfolio=recommendation-as-a-service)
