TheoriginalG.652.a+bfibresweredesignedtobeusedinthe1310nmregion.Theywerespecifiedfor1310,1550and1625nmwavelengths.ThenewerwaterpeaklesstypesG.652.c+dhaveno1625nmspecificationsanymore.ThesetypescanbeusedforCoarseWavelengthDivisionMultiplexing(CWDM)overshorterdistances.ThetypicalrangeisextendedLAN,MANandaccessnetworksystems.



TheG.653.a+bfibreswereoriginallydesignedfortransmissionat1310and1550nm,butwithazerochromaticdispersioninthe1550nmregion.TypicallyusedforlonghaultransmissionsystemsincombinationwithErbiumDopedFibreAmplifiers(EDFA)inthethirdwindowonly.



TheG.654familyisintendedtobeusedinthe1550nmregiononlywithoutDWDMapplications.Itlacksagoodperformanceat1310nmandthuscancauseproblems.

Itcanbeusedwithhighpowerlasersandwillnotalterasquicklyasothertypes.



TheG.655fibresaredesignedforusewithDenseWavelengthDivisionMultiplexing(DWDM)systemsincombinationwithlonghauldistances.ThespecificationscanbemadespotonforthetransmissionsystemallowinglowlossesduetolowChromaticDispersioncompensationlosses.Thechoiceisbetweenpositiveandnegativecompensationforacertainwindow.



TheG.656fibresareusedforwidebandopticaltransmissionsuchasCWDMandDWDM.Theyavoidazerochromaticdispersionslopeinthe14601625nmrange.

Thisenablesoperatorstocompensateonlyinonedirectionwithsmalldifferencesbetweenthewavelengths.



TheG.657fibrefamilyissimilartotheG.652.dbutislessbendsensitive.TypeacanalsobeusedforCWDMtransmission,duetotheabsenceofawaterpeak.Typebisforuseat1310,1550and1625nmonly.TypicalusewouldbeaccessorFTTX.
