Mission Statement Through the teachings of Jesus Christ and with the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we, as Catholic Christians, strive to teach our youth, evangelize our community and renew our faithful. We will promote the principles of the Catholic Church
through Scripture, Sacraments, prayer, almsgiving and penance — helping each other to seek eternal salvation with God in heaven.

When Bad Things Happen to Good People
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, “Why do bad things happen to good people?” This is a question that many ask — both those who have faith and those who do not. We (who are faithful Catholic Christians) can wonder sometimes, “I am doing all the right things: prayer, going to Mass, treating people with love. Why has this happened to me? I don’t deserve this!” We can get disappointed or even angry with God. Some even stop going to church when things get bad. Our readings give us three individuals who are good but have bad things happen to them. Job, through no fault of his own, lost everything: his wife, his children, his wealth, his reputation. His friends told him to curse God and die, but he chose to bear all — not just patiently but faithfully. St. Paul shows us another example of a man, on fire with the love of God, who received criticism and rejection. People ques-tioned his character and authority. He did not deserve that treatment, especially after suffering so much to spread the gospel. And yet His love for Jesus kept him zealous for the truth, Woe to me if I do not preach the gospel! (1 Cor 9:16). Jesus gives us the ultimate example for making sense of why sometimes bad things happen to good people: Rising very early before dawn, he left and went off to a deserted place, where he prayed (Mk 1:35). We must turn to prayer when it feels like life is piling up on us, so that we do not get absorbed in self-pity. God is not the source of pain and suffe-ring; He is the source of peace and consolation. Jesus says in the gospel today, “Let us go…” (Mk 1:38). Once we make sense of our hardships through prayer — being completely honest with God in prayer — we can go. And we need to move on. God needs us to do His work on earth.
Yours in Christ, Fr. Lowry

Lowry

2018 BISHOP’S ANNUAL APPEAL– PROMESA AL OBISPO
”The one who sat on the throne said, ‘Behold, I make all things new.’ ‘Write these words down, for they are trustworthy and true. Revela-tion 21:5
This weekend kicks off the 2018 Bishop’s Annual Appeal. The Appeal is an opportunity for you to directly support the Diocese of Tyler’s mission to teach the faith anew to every single person in East Texas. Your generosity strengthens our seminarians, our retired clergy, and family life and faith formation ministries within the St. Philip Institute. Please pray fervently about how God might be calling you to coura-geously say ‘yes’ in your generosity and support. Help make all things new through Jesus Christ.

FAITH FORMATION NEWS Parents as you all know, Father Lowry is trying to raise money for new pews and flooring for our church
by asking for as many people or groups to donate $2,000.00 per pew and I would like Faith Formation as a whole to participate by gathering funds for one pew the goal is for each class is to collect $110 dollars but the class with most collections will get a pizza party please divide the $110.00 by the amount of students in your class and that is the amount that each student should donate but if they bring more that would be great !!!! Let’s try our best to help our church.
Sincerely,
Sinceramente
Zoila Hunt

Saint Michael, the Archangel, defend us in battle; be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou, O prince of the heavenly host, by the power of
God, cast into Hell, Satan and all the evil spirits, who prowl about the world, seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.
