FAMOUS TURKISH BIKE RIDERS

GÜRSEL AKAYGürsel Akay is the first Turk to reach Erciyes Mountain with bike.

Furthermore,he was the leader of the bike team which passed along Kaçkar Mountains by bike.

In 1992,He founded a social biking club called ‘Yeşil Bisiklet’ (Green Bike) with Sena Akay and has organized many different activities to make people like this sport - biking - and see it as a life style.He has released the first Bike magazine in Turkey.

In 2000, Gürsel Akay took place in the Turkish Bike Team which finished a 520 kilometer non-stop bike race that is accepted as the world’s most challenging adventure one.In this race,there were parts like coneing,trekking and biking.

In 2001, At Giants of Volcano race (ın Scilia) ,he became the 7th of European teams.The following years ,he participated in different kinds of activities related to bike in Turkey.

GÜRKAN GENÇHe was born in 1979.He is a graduate of Communications faculty.He worked as a sales represent in different companies.Then,he founded a company with three friends but he left this job.During his last work experiences,he started using bike as a way of transportation,remembered his big dream of childhood.

In April 2010 ,He set off by his bike from Samsun with the slogan ‘Pedals for Nature’.He followed the route of Georgia,Turkmenistan,Kyrgyzstan,Tajikistan,Uzbekistan,Mongolia,China,South Korea and finally reached Japan ,his last stop.

HIS FIRST WORLD BIKE TOUR

In his eleven month bike tour ,he saw 11 countries ,950 cities ,towns and villages.He took 15.000 photos,had 2242 videos.He pedalled for 12.000 kilometers.He has gone down in history as the first Turk to pass these places : Central Asia Turkish

TURKEY KNOWS ABOUT HIM ….

In a year,he has made 100 presentation in different places and has shared his experiences with 25.000 young people. He has opened 4 photograph exhibition,has made two short films and sent them to the festivals.He has also written a book about his completed bike tour.

A WORLD TOUR WITH IRON HORSE…..

But ,his real dream is not this.He told his mum that he would travel all around the World with bike. He has started his second Project ‘Pedals for future’ in 2012 .He is planning to pedal to seven continents,84 countries,115.000 kilometers in seven years.He will pass the World’s five big deserts,the World’s highest five mountains and at the end he will reach to Everest camping site . He wants to try a route that has never been tried before and he wants to take his place in Guinnes Records Book Then,he will turn back to Turkey.

CEBRAİL ŞEKER

He is a very young (born in 1995 )but very successful Turkish bike rider who was the champion of the Balkans Bike Road race which was in Serbia –Belgrade in 2012 10 countries and 40 cyclers participated this race.

NUSRET ERGÜN

He was one of the oldest and successful cyclers of Turkey .He won many championships and was the coach of famous bike riders.We lost him
