Fall Semester 2018 Final Exams Guideline

You must present your student ID card when taking final exams.

If there is a change in the schedule,

Portal site and Soka University HP

("定期試験の実施"), bulletin board(Global

Square first floor lobby).

We prohibit the use of mobile phones and other electronic devices that sounds.

*Turn off it and Do NOT put it on the desk.

*When it did that, we will be punished strictly.

<NOTICE> In case of emergency cancellations, final exams will be conducted on January 28(Mon), 29(Tue).

《 Time schedule 》

Period Time

1st 9：00 - 10：00

2nd 10：45 - 11：45

3rd 13：00 - 14：00

4th 14：45 - 15：45

5th 16：30 - 17：30

6th 18：15 - 19：15

《 Precautions on Final Exam 》 I. Students need to arrive at the classroom 15 minutes before the exam starts. Bus users should allow enough time to

arrive 30 minutes before university in anticipation of traffic jams.

II. Those without Student ID are not allowed to take the exam. Please put your Student ID on the aisle side of the desk for

verification during the examination. In case you forgot to bring your Student ID, you need to issue “Temporary Student

ID” at PAPYRUSMATE, and receive a seal of approval at the Academic Affairs Office. It costs JPY 300 to issue

“Temporary Student ID”. You can issue it many times during the exam period. (It can also be issued at Faculty of

Education Administrative Office, Faculty of Law Administrative Office, Faculty of Science and Engineering

Administrative Office, and Faculty of Nursing Administrative Office)

III. Items not required for the exam must be put in your bag and placed under your chair. If found under your desk, it will

be deemed an act of dishonesty.

IV. Please turn off your mobile phone and make sure the alarms are off. Electronic devices such as electronic calculators

with dictionaries, clock with calculator, clock with dictionary, electronic dictionary, etc. are prohibited to be brought

in unless otherwise specified. Also, you cannot use the mobile phone as a clock instead, please turn off the power.

Furthermore, Global Square doesn’t prepare the clock, please bring your own watch.

V. In the examination classroom, please sit every other seat.

VI. Students are not allowed to leave the classroom during the examination. Please go to the restroom before the exam

starts. Make-up exams are not allowed to take for those who leave during the exam due to illness.

1. 《Postponement of Final Exam due to weather》

◆Please check HP or “TEL service for cancellation of lectures” 042 - 691 - 9500◆

I. If the East Japan Railway Company (the capital region around Hachioji Station) or Nishi Tokyo Bus Company fully

suspend their transportation services, or the Japan Meteorological Agency issues any of the following warnings: heavy

rain, flood, heavy snow, windstorm, or heavy snowstorm warning for the North Tama, West Tama or South Tama areas

at 6:00 a.m., the university will postpone final exams and hold the exams during back-up dates. However, the university

reserves the right to hold final exams as scheduled, even if the above-mentioned warnings are issued, but when they are

judged not to influence the implementation of exams. If transportation services are resumed by 10:00 a.m., only the

examinations in the morning will be postponed, and examinations in the afternoon will be held as scheduled.

II. Students who were unable to take the exam due to lost or delayed transportation can take the test. However, we must

present a delay certificate of public transport.

《 Attention about an act of dishonesty》

Do NOT misbehave in the examination. Just brought in cheat sheets etc, it is regarded as an act of dishonesty.

1．Any of the following acts will be deemed as an act of dishonesty.

a) A person who wrote information on the desk, etc. in advance or is in possession of a cheat sheet, etc.;

b) A person in possession of the book of six major laws/dictionaries, etc. in which information was

written in advance;

c) A person who referred to a textbook, reference book or notebook, etc. whose reference is not

permitted;

d) A person who used or referred to a cellular phone or electronic equipment, etc. without permission

e) A person who replaced the real answer sheet with a fake one;

f) A person who communicated with another examinee by speaking or signs, etc.;

g) A person who created an answer by looking at the examination paper of another examinee;

h) A person who left his/her seat without permission or a person who conducted any act in contravention

of the directions of the Supervisors;

i) A person who took an examination by any improper means.

2. The disciplinary action taken against wrongdoers under Article 46 of School

Regulations of Soka University will be as follows:

〈 About Disciplinary action 〉

(1) Reprimand: above mentioned a)～i) A person who has received a reprimand: All course credits for

such semester will not be recognized.

(2) Suspension; A person who has received a suspension: All course credits for such academic year will

not be recognized.

a) A person who asked someone to take an examination on behalf of him/her or a person who took an

examination on behalf of another person;

b) A person who created an answer for another person, a person who submitted an answer created

improperly or a person who had someone conduct such acts;

c) A person who received a reprimand in the past and conducted a wrongful act again;

d) A person who conducted other wrongful acts.

(3) Withdrawal: A person who has received a withdrawal: All course credits for such academic year will not

be recognized.

A person who received a suspension in the past and conducted a wrongful act again.

＜Notes on report creation＞

The report judges student's academic achievement in an alternative method to regular examination.

Therefore, it is essentially required to have the same rigor as regular test. Please refrain from

reporting to others, copying the report of others, borrowing without quoting the author name or books

of quoted text etc.

In addition, the report to be created by the group according to the instruction of the faculty, and the

teacher to study in the group

The admitted report does not fall under this. From June 2000 Academic Affair Committee “Warning”

－ Make-up Examinations －

Those students with legitimate excuses for missing exams during the official exam period are permitted to take make-up exams. (This only applies to the exams administered during the official exam period, not in-class exams or term papers.)

Those students who applied make-up exam confirmed your schedule on February 13(Wed).

《 The subjects for make-up exams》

Only subjects during the official exam period (January 18 – 26) *The subjects in class exams and term paper are not

eligible.

《Examination qualification》

Those students with legitimate excuses for missing exams during the official exam period are permitted to take make-up

exams.

Reasons Certificates

National exam/Teacher employment test/Local government employee exam Document to confirm the exam, such

as an examination admission ticket

Employment test (excluding seminars)*2 Same as above

Participation in national championship sport tournament Certificates from Student Affairs

Office

Student’s own injuries or sickness Medical certificate from a doctor（*1）

Bereavement Leave (Relative within 2nd degree of kinship)

Period ： 7days for parents (adoptive parents), in case of brothers and

grandparents, 3days (including Saturdays and Sundays)

Letter of thanks for attendance at the

funeral, etc.

Delay due to accidents/snowfall, etc. of trains/buses, etc. Certificate of delay （ Issued at the

station etc.）

Traffic accidents/disasters (fires, etc.) Certificate of the accident or victim

certificate

Participating in the practical training as a class at our university Certificates of participation in

Practical training

Other cases where the head of Academic Affairs Department deems that there is

any applicable reason.

○ Internal Regulations Regarding Handling of Authorized Absence at Soka University does not apply the examination.

○ A person who has failed to apply to take an examination within the designated period will be disqualified from taking the

examination.

*1) Medical certificates proving a student’s own injuries and sickness will be limited to those issued by public facilities,

such as hospitals, which specify the status of injuries and sickness on the date of the final examination when he/she failed

to take the exam. Please note, medical certificates from the Health Center at the University will not be accepted.

*2) With regard to employment tests (excluding seminars), if a student participates in information sessions associated with

employment or selection, employment tests, such as interview exams/written exams, the unofficial job offer ceremony and

workshops/seminars, etc. necessary for recruitment, the Career Center will decide whether such events qualify as reasons

for a supplementary examination.

《 Date of make-up exam 》

February 20(Wed) or February 21(Thu), 2018

《Application for Make-up exam》

Submit the form to Academic Affair Office

To make an application for a supplementary examination, a student must fill in the required items on the form of

“Request for Permission to Take a Make-up Examination” and submit the form to the Academic Affairs Office (students

of the Faculty of Engineering may submit to the Administration Office of the Faculty of Engineering). In addition, the

certificates, etc. specified above must be attached to the submission.

The examination fee of make-up examinations will not be collected.

《 Application Period》

From January 11(Fri) to 12：00 January 31(Thu), 2019 （We didn’t accept on Sunday）

《 Opening Hours（From January 11 to January 30）》

Monday - Friday 9：30-17：00

Saturday 9：30-12：00

※The operation will be closed for University Testing Center Exam on January 19(Sat).

《 Announced the students who approved to do make-up exam and Time schedule》

10：00, February 13(Wed), 2019

Make-up exam’s time schedule and Persons permitted to take examinations will be notified on the bulletin board in

Global Square (the Faculty of Engineering) and Soka University HP.

The assignments may be imposed instead of an exam. In that case as well, it will be announced on February 13. Please note that the submission will be closed on the supplementary examination date.

※ If the attendances of the class is extremely bad, you may not be allowed to take the make-up exam.

※ We cannot answer anything concerning the posting of make-up examination by telephone.

※ Please bring your student ID with you on the make-up exam day.
