Special Light Sport Aircraft and Flight Training
Light-sport aircraft is defined as simple-to-operate, easy-to-fly aircraft. 2 seater, MTOW 600 kg, Max stall speed 45 knots, VH limit 120 knots (USA), fixed or ground adj.prop (USA), single reciprocating engine, unpressurized cabin, fixed landing gear
LSA category already in the USA (since 2004), Australia, New Zealand, China, Korea, Chile etc. ELA process in Europe.
S-LSAs can be used for flight training to get the Sport Pilot licence. S-LSAs can be newly used in the USA at Part 141 flight schools which will likely reduce
training costs for all student pilots. Evektor offers the SportStar MAX S-LSA which is very popular in the Flight Schools

Opportunities for Flight Schools using Light Sport Aircraft
Considerably lower purchase cost to buy new LSA (one half of new Cessna 172)
Lower airplane insurance (percentage of insured value)
Operating expenses considerably lower than standard-category aircraft (oil, fuel, spark plugs, etc.)
Lower maintenance costs All these advantages of LSA lead to
lower hourly rates LSA can help a new school overcome
barriers to entry the flight training market (knowledge, brand recoginiton, economies of scale)
Use of LSA’s will make flight schools more competitive in the primary training market
