DOROTHY EDHSON HEWSLETTER NO. 25 . in Christ FEB  97 On October 31st o u r new campus wa s dedicated t o ,the service of Jesus Christ i n a lovely formal service. Unfortunately, we experienced unusual and h ea vy rain from 2:00 p.m. until after 4:00. This kept many Ghanaians from coming who depend on public transport, b ut there was still a fairly good crowd. One of the students said today that it s a good thing it rained o r we might have been disgraced fo r lack o f seating space . A feature of Ghanaian programs i s t h e chairman, who announces every event a nd makes little speeches at t h e beginning an d end. A friend of t h e college who i s head-of--the-Customs-and_.Ex,cise Office served admirably i n that position. Mr._Kom, the/school s lawyer, gave t h e main address - a very short one He i s a l a y preacher a n d h as very nondenominational about Instead o f a n honorr- arium, we will give him some books to stimulate h i s thinking along New Testament lines. Th e program included several special songs from student groups, scripture by t h e Senior Prefect, a short history o f t h e college, an d a responsive litany fo r the dedication itself After t h e program t h e group stayed i n t h e chapel fo r impromptu singing while we completed preparations f o r t h e serving of refreshments. I t hiid been raining t o o hard bfefore t h e service to c ar ry things to the dining hall. There a r e no windows i n one side of that room yet, so there was a small lake on one side of it - inside Now we Idiow o f a few improvements that ought to be made very soon. Many o f yo u who read this have helped make this campus possible. Pray with u s f o r t h e fulfillment o f these words i n t h e service:  Prom this place, may t he Word o f God, which liveth an d abideth forever, b e carried i n t h e mouths an d lives o f its students t o t h e perishing of Ghana, Africa, an d t o t h e whole world. Speaking o f dedications, several of us attended a similar service f o r t h e Prampram Christian Secondary School i n October. (This i s n o t run by mission funds. Some.of us gave individual, private gifts t help them g e t started.) I t was very Ghanaian i n that i t wa s scheduled t o start at 2:30 b u t didn t until nearly Several students and Christian Adjei provided special music. I have exercised restraint i n waiting until now t o tell=^you the biggest news o f all: Ghana Christian College ha.a I tH own VT-^a quota. This means that t h e Board of Governors, which i s dominated b y t he faculty o f the s ch oo l, a r e t h e people who s a y who should come or not come t o work i n conjunction vTith t h e school. It means that we a r e free t o preach a n d teach an d a i d churches a n d Christians a s we s e e fi t with o u t being cramped by pressures - some subtle a nd some n o t so subtle - exerted b y a n African church who controls o u r residence permits. \ Ie h a d disagreements a^ain recently with Ghana Christian Church a n d we decided we must t r y again t o g e t a quota fo r the school. God s hand was surely in i t, for the quota was granted within three weeks. We thanked God fervently fo r H is grace. Our passports were s ta mp ed with t h e ne w visas b y t h e 19th of October. \7e have written an official letter t o Ghana Christian Church advising them o f o u r new status. We have hoped an d prayed fo r freedom i n Christ fo r t h e school an d a l l o u r work along with continued opportunity t o work vdth t h e congregations o f Chana Christian Church a s well a s others who will be guided b y sound doctrine. Pray with u s . We a r e still walking by faith an d n o t by sight as we continually seek God's.way to help the congregations spiritually an d materially. The l 9 year old boy about whom I wrote f or C.O.M.E. material i n February i s finally leaving Ghana; he will go t o Mali with the family f o r whom he works a s a steward. He h a s been so faithful an d sincere that we hate to s e e hi m g o , b u t I know t h e Lord ca n u se him i n Mali, too. The young people ha d a little party f o r hi m an d gave hi m some devotional books. I n October one of th e college freshmen was baptized after a service at Kokomlemle. He i s t he first of the unimmersed freshmen t o be convicted o f i t s
