Die Osterinsel (spanisch Isla de Pascua, rapanui Rapa Nui) ist eine isoliert gelegene Insel im Südostpazifik, die politisch zu Chile gehört, geographisch jedoch zu Polynesien. Sie liegt südlich des südlichen Wendekreises. Der Hauptort Hanga Roa ist 3526 km von der chilenischen Küste (oder 3833 km in genauer Ostrichtung bis zur Küste) und 4251 km von Tahiti entfernt. Das nächstgelegene bewohnte Eiland ist Pitcairn im Westen, in einer Entfernung von 2078 Kilometern. 2012 lebten auf der Osterinsel 5806 Menschen. Bekannt ist die Insel vor allem wegen der monumentalen Steinskulpturen, den Moai. Seit 1995 ist die Osterinsel als Nationalpark Rapa Nui Teil des UNESCO-Welterbes.

Easter Island (Rapa Nui: Rapa Nui, Spanish: Isla de Pascua) is a Polynesian island in the southeastern Pacific Ocean, at the southeastern most point of the Polynesian Triangle. Easter Island is famous for its 887 extant monumental statues, called moai, created by the early Rapa Nui people. In 1995, UNESCO named Easter Island a World Heritage Site, with much of the island protected within Rapa Nui National Park. Easter Island is a special territory of Chile that was annexed in 1888. Administratively, it belongs to the Valparaíso Region and more specifically, is the only commune of the Province Isla de Pascua
