Preparing your phone Making your first callInsert rechargeable battery

When changing the battery, your phone shouldalways be switched off. The on/off key is thered function key on your phone.

Charge the battery

The battery supplied with this telephone iscompletely discharged. The telephone willinitiate charging as soon as you have insertedthe charger plug in the bottom of the tele-phone. It takes 1.5 to 6.5 hours for the batteryto become fully charged, depending on the sizeof the battery.

To obtain optimum battery performance indaily use, wait until the battery is completelydischarged, before recharging to full capacity. Itis possible to use your phone while charging.

During charging, the battery symbols will flashon and off from the bottom of the display andup. It might, however, take about 5 minutesbefore you can see these symbols in yourdisplay (depending on the age of the battery).

When the battery is fully charged, all 4symbols will be permanently displayed as longas the phone is switched on. When your batteryneeds recharging, the phone will emit a shortwarning tone.

When you charge the battery, it should al-ways be fully charged in order to read out thebattery capacity accurately.

Insert SIM card

Before you can make a call on your mobilephone you have to insert the SIM card. Pleasemake sure that any plastic remains from theframe punching have been removed.

Switch off your phone and remove the battery if attached to the phone.

Open the SIM card holder by sliding it tothe left and lifting it.

Place the SIM card in the small depressionon the phone.

Press down the SIM card holder and slide itto the right.

Insert the battery and switch on the tele-phone (the phone will display a welcomegreeting).

Enter PIN code, if requested, and confirm bypressing (»OK«).

The telephone will now start searching for yourhome network. When connection is success-fully established, the name of your networkoperator will be displayed.

This telephone is designed for use in GSM900 and GSM 1800 networks. Handoverbetween the two types of network takes placeautomatically and seamlessly.

Making your first call

Enter the phone number you want to call.

Press (»CALL«) to make the call.

Press (»END«) to end the call.

If you call a phone number which is diverted toanother phone number, the display might showthe phone number to which you are connectedand not the one entered by you.

If the phone cannot establish contact withyour network and you attempt to make a call,the display will show »please redial later«.

Emergency callsMost networks allow you to make emergencycalls (112) both with and without a SIM card.

Answering a call

The phone rings.

Press (»ANSWER«).

Press (»END«) to end the call.

Use the arrow keys and to increaseand decrease the speaker volume.

The function keys have different functions ac-cording to whether you are in standby or con-versation mode. The display text above the keywill inform you of the actual function of the keyat any time.

Four main functions

To get full benefit of your phone, remember thefollowing four main functions, three of whichyou can enter when you have turned on yourphone and entered the pin code (if any), i.e.when you are in standby mode:

Phone book – PressUse this main function to store entries in yourphone book or to access your phone book, whenyou want to find a stored name and number.

List menu – Press This is a menu where you can get informationabout the different kinds of calls and messages youhave sent and received. You can also edit yourphone book and find extra phone books, if any.

Setup menu – PressIn this menu you have the possibility of settingyour phone according to your own personal wishesand needs, such as selecting new ringing tones.

The fourth main function can only be enteredwhile you are having a conversation, i.e. whenyou are in conversation mode:

Conversation menu – PressThis menu offers different kinds of possibilitiessuch as putting a call on hold or joining morecalls.

When you go through this user guide, youwill see that there is a chapter for each ofthese four main functions

Within a main function

This is how your function keys work when youhave entered one of the main functions:

• Press and to scroll through themenus to see your options;

• press to select and accept options; and

• press to exit the choice you have madeor to clear digits or characters that you haveentered.

Take notice of the display texts when you useyour phone. In this user guide, references willbe made to the display text instead of to thekeys and .

Dynamic menus

It is important to note that the menus are dyna-mic. This means that your phone does not al-ways give you all the options listed in this userguide. This is because the option is only listed –if you really have the option. For instance youcannot select the list of missed calls if there areno missed calls.

SIM card limitations

Another important issue is your SIM card. Inthis user guide you can see the full capability ofyour phone, but the presence of some of thefeatures depends on your network operatorand/or your SIM card. Where a feature relatesto the network, you will see this symbol inthe user guide.

Please contact your network operator forfurther details.

Care of your phone

Do not try to open the phone as this might damage vital parts. The phone contains nocomponents which can be repaired by the user.Any repair requires expertise and should becarried out only by an authorised servicecentre.

To clean your phone, wipe over with a softcloth. Do not use alcohol or other solvents asthese will harm your phone.

Do not use your mobile phone in highhumidity environments or where the tempera-ture falls below -10˚ or exceeds +55˚ C.

Accessories

The use of other types of chargers, batteries or any accessories other than those recommendedfor use with this telephone will invalidate any approval given to this apparatus as well as themanufacturer’s warranty on the telephone.

Batteries

Never dispose of old batteries in your house-hold refuse. Return them to the place of pur-chase or take them to a recycling centre so thatthey may be disposed of in an environmentallyfriendly manner.

Phone book

Phone book

You can store names and telephone numbers inyour phone book. The entries are stored on theSIM card, and the number of entries as well asthe length of a name or a telephone numberdepend on the capacity of the SIM card.

There are several characters available oneach key, as shown in the table below. Pressonce to get the first character, twice to get thesecond character, and so on. When you need aspace between two characters, press .

Holding down one of the keys for one secondwill give you the option of lower case. Justpress the key again for one second to return toupper case.

Press »CLEAR« briefly to delete one character.

Press »CLEAR« for one second to delete theentire display.

How to store a nameand a telephone number

Enter the phone number.

Press

Enter name and press »OK«.

The telephone will suggest that thename/number should be stored under the firstvacant location number.

Press »OK« to accept the suggested number

or

Press »CLEAR« and enter a locationnumber of your own choice (up to 3 digits).

Store frequently used numbers in locationnumbers 1 to 9 so that you can speed dial themby pressing only one key. (Speed dialling is anoption of the Setup menu, see page 26).

If you choose a location number that is occu-pied, the phone will give you the option ofoverwriting the existing entry. If you do notwant to overwrite the existing entry, press»EXIT« and the location number suggestedwill be visible again.

If you have a voice mail number stored inyour phone book this should be stored underlocation 1. On some networks this has alreadybeen done by the operator.

If you enter the phone number with the help of"+" followed by the national code you can useyour phone book abroad without having tothink about international codes.

Prefix telephone numbersPrefix phone numbers are used by e.g.companies, and are built up in the way that thefirst digits of the number are the prefix (thesame for everybody), and the last digit(s) is/arerelated to the specific person or office you wantto call. If you make frequent calls to differentpersons or offices in e.g. a company with aprefix telephone number, you might want tostore only the prefix part of the telephonenumber in your phone book, giving you thepossibility of adding the additional digits to thenumber when you make the call.

This is done in exactly the same way as youstore a normal phone number in your phonebook. Only, instead of each of the additionaldigits that varies from time to time, you enter a»W«. This is done by holding down the -keyfor approx. 2 seconds.

Phone numbers with extension numberIn some places, extension numbers are used.Extension numbers work in the way that youdial a full phone number, and then, after apause, you dial the extension number.

If you want to store a phone number with anextension number in your phone book, youhave to enter a pause between the mainnumber and the extension number. This isdone by pressing the -key for one seconduntil the pause code »P« appears on the display.

Who is calling? Calling Line Identification (CLI) is a networkfeature whereby the phone numbers of callersto your phone are shown on your phone'sdisplay. If your caller is one of the entries thatyou have stored in your phone book, then hisname will appear on your display.

How to find an entry in your phone book

Enter the phone book:

Scroll through the phone book: and

Call the number: Press »CALL«.

If you have stored many numbers in yourphone book, it might be easier for you to findan entry by entering one or more letters of thename you wish to find.

If you want to call a prefix phone number youmust enter the digits to replace the »W« afterhaving pressed »CALL«.

How to edit or delete aname/number

If you want to edit or delete a name/number orsee the status of your phone book, you have togo through the List menu (see page 12).

Extra phone books

Some SIM cards offer you the possibility ofhaving extra phone books for differentpurposes. If you have one or more of thesephone books, you will find them through theList menu (see page 13).

Phone book sorting

To sort the names in your phone book, enterthe Setup menu (see page 29).

Outgoing, answered, and missed calls

The List menu offers you information aboutyour latest outgoing, answered and missed callsas well as SMS messages. Further, this is themenu you enter to edit your phone book, and ifyou have extra phone books available on yourSIM card, this is where you find them.

Remember that indicates that the optiondepends on your SIM card and therefore maynot be available.

Here is a list of options that you get whenyou enter the List menu.

Outgoing calls

• View names/phone numbers of your latest outgoing calls

Answered calls

• View names/phone numbers of your latestanswered calls

Missed calls

• View names/phone numbers of you latestcalls received but not answered

Phone book

• Find, add, edit or delete entries• See phone book status

Information numbers

Enter the List menu by pressing Select one of the below mentioned options

Outgoing calls

Your phone will show your last dialledtelephone numbers. If you want to call one ofthe numbers again, select it and press »CALL«to initiate the call.

Answered calls

Your phone remembers the last 10 callsyour phone has received. It is possible to callone of the numbers by selecting it and pressing»CALL« to initiate the call.

Missed calls

Your phone remembers the last 10 incom-ing calls which you did not answer.

The display will tell you how many missedcalls your phone has received, since the lasttime you touched it. If, for instance, there are 5missed calls the standby display will show .5.

As the telephone registers only identifiedcalls in the list, the number of missed callsshown on the display and the number of phonenumbers actually listed may be different.

• Immediate access to the list of missed callsAs long as the symbol is shown in yourdisplay, you get immediate access to the list ofmissed calls simply by pressing . You canthen select and call a number.

• How to see the list of missed calls at alater momentAs soon as you have used the list, either tomake a call or to view numbers, the symbolwill disappear from the display. However, thelist will always be available through the Listmenu, where you can also select and call anumber.

The telephone number will be deleted fromthe list as soon as you have called it, but youcan find it again on the list of last outgoingcalls.

How to copy one of the numbersinto your phone book

You can copy a number from the list ofoutgoing, answered, or missed calls into yourphone book.

You just select the wanted phone numberfrom the actual list, press to access yourphone book and give the number a name and alocation.

How to delete call information

You can delete all entries stored in the out-going, answered, and missed calls lists. This isdone by entering the Setup menu (see page 29).

The List menu offers you the following optionsconcerning your phone book:

»Find entry«»Add entry«»Edit entry«»Del. entry«»Status«

Find entryThis option gives you the possibility of findingan entry in your phone book. As described inthe previous chapter about the phone book,this can also be done simply by pressing when you are in standby mode.

Add entryYou can use this option when you want to adda new entry to your phone book. This can alsobe done simply by using the key, cf. thechapter about the phone book.

Edit entryYou have the possibility of changing an existingname or number in your phone book. Selectthe name/number you wish to change and editit using »CLEAR« to delete digits and/orletters, and use the alphanumeric keypad toenter new digits and/or letters.

Delete entryUse this option if you want to delete one of theentries in your phone book. Select the entryyou want to delete and press »DELETE«.

StatusThe telephone will display the total number oflocations in your phone book and inform youhow many of these are free.

Enter the List menu by pressing Select one of the below mentioned options

Depending on your SIM card you may havedifferent extra phone books. These phonebooks will be visible in the phone display onlyif they are available and enabled.

Information numbers

Numbers stored in this phone book are typi-cally numbers for taxis, airports, hotels, weath-er, news, etc. The contents are defined by yournetwork operator and cannot be changed byyou.

Fixed numbers

With the help of this extra phone book you canrestrict the use of your phone only to numbersstored in this special phone book. This tele-phone book operates in exactly the same wayas your ordinary phone book.

However, in order to be able to make such aphone book you need to have a PUK2 codefrom your network operator and to use a PIN2code of your own choice.

See the Setup menu page 29 for how to usefixed dialling.

Service numbers

This service number phone book containscustomer care, hotline service numbers, etc.The contents are defined by your networkoperator and cannot be changed by you.

Barred numbers

In this phone book you can store numbers towhich you do not allow any calls. This phonebook operates in exactly the same way as your ordinary phone book.

In order to be able to make such a phonebook you also need to have a PUK2 code fromyour network operator and to use a PIN2 codeof your own choice.

See page 29 in the Setup menu for how to usebarred dialling.

Own numbers

This is simply an extra phone book which givesyou the possibilities of finding, adding, editingand deleting the entries – just like the ordinaryphone book.

For instance, it is possible to use this extraphone book if the phone is used both as abusiness phone and a private phone. You canthen store the business numbers in the ordinaryphone book and your private numbers in thisphone book.

SMS (Short Message Service)

SMS are short text messages that your phonecan receive and send via the network. On somenetworks you have to subscribe to this facility.

There are two types of SMS: point-to-pointmessages which you can both receive andsend, and broadcast messages which you canonly receive.

Entering the SMS menu gives you theseoptions:

»Inbox«»Outbox«»New SMS«»Broadcasts«»Voice mail«

InboxA new incoming message will be indicated bythe SMS indicator on the standby display, aswell as by a message tone (if enabled – see theSetup menu page 23). The display will also tellyou how many new messages there are for you.

• Immediate access to a new messageWhen the symbol appears in your displaytogether with the number of new messages, youget immediate access to your inbox simply bypressing . The display will show date andtime of each individual message received, andyou can then select and read the message(s)you want to.

The phone number of the message sender orthe name (if stored in your phone book) will bedisplayed in front of the message. You can nowscroll through the message by using the arrowkeys.

The message is automatically stored in theinbox if you do not delete it. In addition toreading the message, you can press »OPTION« and

– delete it– send a reply– forward it to another phone number– edit it before sending– extract a phone number, if any, from the

message to call or to store in your phonebook

– call back to the sender

When a message has been read it will beindicated by a √ to the left of the date ofreceipt.

• How to read a message at a later momentIf you have used your phone after havingreceived a new message, you have to enter theInbox to read it.

The SMS indicator tells you that thereare still unread messages, and remains on thestandby display until all messages have beenread.

• Delete messages from Inbox/OutboxIf the SMS indicator is flashing, itindicates that the message memory is full.

You can delete all messages stored either inthe Inbox or the Outbox at the same time.This is done by entering the Setup menu, seepage 28.

New SMSTo send a message you have to enter your net-work operator's telephone number for thisspecial service. Further, you have to set up thevalidity period you want for your messages andconfirm that you want to send the message as atext.

To set up these parameters once and for all,you must enter the Setup menu (page 27). Ifyou do not do so, you will be asked for aspecification each time you wish to send amessage.

Once the parameters are set up, you enter theoption »New SMS«.

Start entering your message using the keypadin the same way as you enter a name or atelephone number in the phone book.moves the cursor to the left, moves thecursor to the right. Delete unwanted charactersby pressing »CLEAR«.

If you want to use the -symbol in yourSMS message press the -key briefly twice.

Once you have ended your message bypressing »OK«, you can »Send SMS« at onceor you can »Save SMS« and send it later on.

If you select »Send SMS« the phone will askfor a phone number to send the message to.Either enter a phone number or select onefrom your phone book using . Accept bypressing »OK« and your message will besent.

The availabilility and the name of this menudepends on your SIM card. The options aredefined by your network operator and allowyou to set up a dialogue between you, yourSIM card, and your network operator. If thismenu is available, it will be shown first whenyou enter the Setup menu.

Enter the List menu by pressing Select »SMS«

Broadcasts If you want to receive broadcast messages youhave to enter the Setup menu (see page 28) toset up different features.

Broadcasts are general messages broadcast toa group of subscribers. On some networks youhave to subscribe to this facility, on others youjust have to be a network subscriber. Broad-casts are typically local weather and trafficreports, stock market prices, sports results, etc.If you have selected Roaming, i.e. if you areabroad and connected to a foreign network,you may be able to receive broadcasts fromother networks, too.

The messages are transmitted in numberedchannels and in general each channel willcontain information of the same type. Broad-casts may be sent out in different languages.Contact your network operator for furtherdetails.

• How to read a broadcast messageA broadcast message is scrolled twice on thedisplay at the time of reception. If you do notsee it at that time, you can read it by selecting»Broadcasts«.

The display will show the broadcast IDnumber and you can thus identify the kind ofmessage received. Messages are read in exactlythe same way as point-to-point messages. Aread message will be marked by √.

In addition to reading the message, you canpress »OPTION« and

– delete it– store it on your SIM card– forward it to another phone number– extract a phone number, if any, from the

Voice mail Some networks offer a voice mail functionwhere you can listen to your voice mails just byselecting the sub menu »Voice mail«. Othernetworks send you an SMS point-to-pointmessage (see page 14) when you receive a newvoice mail, and you will then have to call yournetwork operator’s voice mail number to listento your voice mails. This menu number isnot automatically displayed on the telephone.If you want to see the number you must pressthe 0 (zero) key. The menu number will thenbe indicated by up to 6 digits.

Divert all calls You simply divert all calls that are made toyour phone. (If you have chosen to have allcalls diverted, the call divert indicator willbe visible on the left side of the standbydisplay.)

Divert all unanswered This is an umbrella function that covers thenext three options at the same time; i.e. itdiverts calls to your phone:

– if your line is busy– if you do not reply– if there is no contact to the network

Divert if busy/no reply/no contact If you wish, these three functions can beselected individually. An example: If you wantcalls made to your phone to be diverted only ifyour line is busy, you select »Divert if busy«.

Status You have the possibility of checking if yourphone is diverted in any of the above men-tioned ways.

Cancel allYou cancel all of your call diverts at the sametime.

Register your call divert

When you have selected one of the five men-tioned options for diverting calls, you will beasked to register the call divert. This meansspecifying certain features for the call divert.

Once you have selected »Register« your tele-phone will guide you through the followingsteps:

Divert delay (only if you have selected todivert »if no reply« or »all unanswered«). Thisoption gives you the possibility of specifyingthe period of time that elapses before the call isdiverted. As appears on your display, you canselect »Use default delay« or select a periodfrom 5 to 30 seconds.

Phone number. Finally, you will be askedwhat number to divert to. Calls can bediverted to a telephone number stored inyour phone book or to any other number.Access your phone book by pressing orenter a phone number via the keypad.

Note: Your selection of a specific kind of calldivert does not only give you the possibilityof registrating it. At this level, you also havethe possibility of deactivating/activating (seebelow), the option of seeing the status for thisspecific kind of call divert by selecting»Status« as well as the option of cancellingthis specific kind of call divert by selecting»Cancel«.

Deactivation/activation

On some networks you have the possibility ofactivating and deactivating your call divert.This means that when you have registered acall divert, you can select to deactivate it, andthen at a later moment activate it again. Yourtelephone will then remember your lastregistration and you will not have to selectdivert delay and phone number again.

You find the option of activating/deactivatingby selecting the specific call divert you want toactivate/deactivate and then select»Deactivate« or »Activate«.

If you try to deactivate/activate a call divertand your network does not allow this option,your display will tell you that the service is notavailable. In that case you must cancel a calldiversion by selecting »Cancel«. Next time youwant your incoming calls diverted, select»Register«.

Call barring

You can set up call barring for different types ofoutgoing and incoming calls to restrict the useof your phone. To make use of this service youneed to get a 4-digit password from yournetwork operator. When you have this code,you must:

Note: Do not confuse call barring with thebarred number phone book. The barrednumber phone book only relates to the barringof specific numbers entered by you.

Different options for call barring

You have different options concerning thekinds of calls you wish to bar. When selectingcall barring you must choose between:

»Outgoing calls«»Incoming calls«»Status«»Cancel all«

Outgoing calls gives you three new options toconsider:

• All calls: If you want to bar all outgoingcalls (calls to Emergency Services can still bemade).

• International calls: If you want to bar all outgoing international calls.

• Roaming calls: If you want outgoing callsto be barred when you are connected to aforeign network (this still leaves you thepossibility of making calls to your homecountry).

Incoming calls gives you two new options toconsider:

• All calls: If you want to bar all incoming calls.

• Roaming calls: If you want incoming calls to be barred only when you are connected to a foreign network.

Status gives you the possibility of checking ifyour phone is barred in any of the above men-tioned ways.

Cancel all gives you the possibility ofcancelling all of your call barrings at the sametime. You will then be asked to enter the 4-digitpassword provided by your network operator.

Activate your call barring

Once you have selected the kind of call barringyou want, you activate it by pressing »OK«.You will then be asked to enter the 4-digitpassword provided by your network operator.

Note: Your selection of a specific kind of callbarring does not only give you the possibilityof activating it. At this level, you can also seethe status of the chosen kind of call barringby selecting »Status«, or cancel the chosenkind of call barring by selecting »Cancel«.

Call waiting

During a conversation, your telephone cannotify you that a new call is waiting. This isindicated by a special ringing tone in theearphone and gives you the option ofanswering or rejecting the new call.

When selecting »Call waiting« from the Callsetup menu you get three options:

»Activate« – to activate call waiting

»Cancel« – to cancel call waiting

»Status« – to see whether call waiting isactivated or not

See the Conversation menu on page 34 forfurther details on how to handle multi-partycalls.

Closed user group

This is a network feature by which the use ofyour telephone is restricted to certain phonenumbers within a group defined by the net-work operator and the owner of the SIM card.You may be a member of different groups.Each group has its own ID number.

The network defines which group is yourdefault user group. You have the option ofcalling outside the group – perhaps at a highercharge.

Outgoing call ID

You can choose whether you want your phonenumber to be shown or not at the nextoutgoing call. Your options at this point are:

Line selection

Some network operators offer Alternate LineService. This allows you to have two separatespeech lines and phone numbers on the sametelephone. If you have two separate lines, youcan alternate between these by entering thissub menu. In the standby display the smallnumber on the left or the right side of thesignal strength indicator (cf. page 39) informsyou whether you are on line one or line two.

Ringing tone

You can adjust the ringing volume level and select the ringing tone according to yoursurroundings and preferences.

Ringing volume levels are high, medium,low, escalating, and off. If the ringing tone is setto »off« you will see the symbol in thestandby display.

You have the option of selecting between 27different ringing tone patterns. While you aremaking your selection, the displayed ringingtone will sound.

You can disable all kinds of tones by pressing»MENU« and then . In that case the symbol

will be flashing in the display. Just press»MENU« and again to revert to youroriginal settings.

Trembler

If you have a trembler battery you can selectwhether the trembler should be active or not at an incoming call.

SMS message tone

Your telephone can alert you to the arrival of apoint-to-point message by means of differentalert tones. You have the option of setting themessage tone volume to high, medium, low, oroff, and the option of selecting between thesame 27 tone patterns as for your ringing tone.

SMS broadcast tone

Your telephone can alert you to the arrival of abroadcast message by means of different alert tones. Your options are the same as mentionedabove under SMS Message tone.

Key tone

To help you keep check on your dialling, youcan choose between 8 different tone patternsfor your keypad. The chosen tone will followevery key pressed.

Factory settings

This option brings you back to the originaltones setup of your phone. The phone is set upby the manufacturer as follows:

The Phone setup menu offers you thepossibility of setting some of the telephone'sfunctions according to your own personalwishes:

Language

The display language of your phone is normal-ly the national language of the country inwhich you purchased your SIM card. If this isnot the case the display language will be En-glish. You do, however, have the option ofchoosing between different languages using thismenu.

If, by mistake, you select a language whichyou do not understand you can always returnto the original language by pressing thefollowing keys: 0000 .

Auto redial

If the phone number you are calling is busy,you can let your phone make up to 10automatic redial attempts. A redialling successtone sounds when the attempt is successful.When you call a number that is busy do notpress »EXIT« unless you want to cancel theauto redialling attempts.

Network selection

Phoning abroad demands the use of a foreignnetwork. You can select one manually or letyour telephone do it for you automatically. Tomake the choice you must enter this networkselection sub menu which gives you threeoptions:

»Automatic selection«»Manual selection«»Set preferred list«

Automatic selectionYour phone will automatically try to reach yourhome network first, then, alternatively to findanother available network. You have thepossibility of establishing a preferred list ofnetworks (see below).

Manual selectionYour phone will always start searching for thenetwork with which it was in contact when itwas switched off. If the phone cannot locatethis network, it will present some alternativenetworks on the display, and you can thenselect one manually. You can select any net-work from the list, but your phone can get incontact only with co-operating networks(Roaming) – except for emergency calls.

Set preferred listThe list of networks on your SIM card definesthe order of preference in which your phonewill select a network in automatic mode. Net-work operators offer different services and callcharges; therefore it may be advantageous tomake your own preferred list. Enter theindividual networks in your own order ofpreference and store them on your SIM card.

To do this, select the empty location in whichyou want to store the new network. Pressing»EDIT« will give you a list of available net-works. Find a network you wish to store inyour preferred list, and press »OK«. If youselect a currently used location and press»EDIT«, the former occupant can be deletedwhen you enter the new one. Just press »EXIT«to leave the list as it was.

Once a network is stored in the preferred list,you can always see the country and networkcode of the actual network by pressing »EDIT«in the Set preferred list option.

Power saving

To save your battery and thus increase bothconversation and standby times you can choose whether you want the display contents to bevisible or not in standby mode. Select »Display«and then »Remains on« if you want it to bevisible, and »Switches off« if you want it not tobe visible. The display will then switch off after3 minutes in standby mode.

The backlight will always switch off after 10seconds if »Backlight« is set to »Switches off«(except when connected to a handsfree car kit).However, you have the option of having thebacklight switched off permanently by selecting»Always off«.

Car kit

This feature is only effective if the phone isconnected to a handsfree car kit. See page 37for more information.

Greeting

You can change the welcome greeting of yourphone according to your own wishes. Deletethe old greeting by holding »CLEAR«, enterthe new greeting via the keypad and confirmby pressing »OK«.

Send SMS setup

This is the sub menu to enter if you want to setup the parameters for sending an SMS point-to-point message. You have two options:

»Service centre«»Reply path«

Service centreYour telephone will guide you through theparameters that you have to set up:

* Accept to add a service centre by pressing»OK«.

* Enter your network operator’s phonenumber for this special service (rememberto add "+" and national code before thenumber). Confirm by pressing »OK«.

* Enter the name of your network operatorand press »OK«.

* Some network operators have alreadyentered their own name and telephonenumber; in that case you just have to select itby pressing »OK«.

You will now have different options of specifying a validity time. This is the periodof time that the message will remain withyour network operator if for some reason itcannot be delivered at once. Confirm yourchoice by pressing »OK«.

You will now be asked to specify the kindof teleservice you want. Select »Text« andpress »OK«.

The menu now returns to »Service centre«.Press »SELECT« and then »OK«.

Now the name and the number of the servicecentre that you have set up will bedisplayed. Press »SELECT«.

Once a service centre has been selected, theseparameters will automatically be used forsending all future messages through this servicecentre.

Having stored a service centre number, youhave the option of adding a new service centre,deleting a stored service centre or editing astored service centre. (The option of storingmore than one service centre may not beavailable with all SIM cards).

Reply path For messages that have to be sent via several service centres to reach the recipient, some net-works offer the feature of sending a reply, ifany, back to you through the same chain ofservice centres. This is called a reply path andyou can select whether you want it to be on oroff.

Speed dialling

If you turn on the speed dialling function, it ispossible to make calls to any number stored inthe phone book more easily by using thelocation number (up to 3 digits). You will thenjust have to press the location number for onesecond (if the location number consists of morethan 1 digit, press the first digit(s) and hold thelast digit for one second). The call will then beautomatically initiated. Further, this functiongives you a shortcut to your last outgoing call:Press 0 (zero) for one second and the call willbe initiated automatically.

Any key answer

If you turn on this function you can answer anincoming call by pressing any key you likeexcept for the left function key and the arrowkeys.

Factory settings

This option brings you back to the originalsetup of your phone. The phone is set up bythe manufacturer as follows:

Fixed dialling

This option is only available if you havedefined and stored fixed numbers in an extraphone book (see page 13). In that case, thisoption allows you to select whether you wantthe fixed dialling function to be on or off (toenable this function you have to enter yourPUK2/PIN2 code).

If you have turned on the fixed diallingfunction, your ordinary phone book will notbe visible on the display and can thus not beaccessed. However, it will, of course, remain onyour SIM card and can be accessed again byturning off the fixed dialling function.

Barred dialling

This option is only available, if you have abarred dialling phone book on your SIM cardand if you have defined and stored barrednumbers in this phone book (see page 13). Inthat case, this option allows you to selectwhether you want the barred dialling functionto be on or off. Any attempt to make a call willmake the phone compare the dialled numberwith the numbers stored in this special phonebook. If the dialled number is stored in the

barred dialling phone book the call will berefused.

To enable the barred dialling phone bookyou have to enter your PUK2/PIN2 code.

Phone book sorting

You have the option of selecting whether youwant your phone book sorted by name or bylocation.

Delete call information

You can delete all entries stored in the out-going, answered and missed calls lists. Enterthis option and select the list which you want todelete.

Broadcast language Some network operators offer broadcast mes-sages in different languages. This option givesyou the possibility of selecting between diffe-rent languages or simply selecting all lan-guages.

Broadcast settingFinally, this option offers you to select whetheryou want the broadcast function to be on or off.

Delete SMS

This option allows you to delete all messagesstored in your inbox or your outbox.

Entering the Security menu gives you differentpossibilities of preventing misuse of your SIMcard and your telephone, e.g. if your phone islost or stolen:

PIN code

In this sub menu you can select a PIN code (4to 8 digits) to be entered each time you switchon your phone. If you have already selected aPIN code you also have the choice of disablingit again or changing it to another code.

If you enter an invalid PIN code three times,your SIM card will be blocked, and to unblockit you have to enter the PUK code supplied byyour network operator. This procedure preventsunauthorised persons from working out yourPIN code by repeatedly entering differentcombinations of numbers.

The display will inform you how many triesyou have left before the SIM card is blocked. Ifyou enter an invalid PUK code 10 times, yourSIM card will be permanently blocked and youhave to contact your network operator.

Some SIM cards use a PIN2 code for access-ing special functions. Contact your networkoperator for further information on PUK2 andPIN2 codes.

SIM lock

You can link your telephone and your SIMcard together. This means that if, for instance,your phone is stolen, it cannot be used togetherwith another SIM card. To enable this featureyou just turn it on and then enter a 6 to 16-digitcode of your own choice.

For your own sake remember to write down thiscode to be able to deactivate the lock at a latertime. You have 10 attempts before the phone isblocked.

Network password

If you subscribe to a call barring service yournetwork operator will have supplied you with a4-digit password. If you want to change it,select this sub menu.

Encryption indication

Encryption means that the network encryptsthe conversations to make it difficult forunauthorised persons to listen in on them. Ifyou connect to a network which does notsupport encryption, you will get a warning inthe display when trying to make a call. Youhave the option of turning on and off the net-work warning by selecting this sub menu.

Line lock

If you have Alternate Line Service on yourSIM card you can restrict the outgoing use toonly one of these lines. Activate the line lock inthis sub menu and enter a 4 to 8 digit lock codeof your own choice. To shift back to the otherline you have to re-enter this code.

The Call timers and charge menu offers youthe possibility of checking duration and cost ofyour calls in different ways:

Last call

Informs you about the duration of your lastcall. You may also be able to see the cost ofyour last call, but this feature demands thatyour network supports it, and that you haveentered a unit price and the actual currency inthe sub menu Call charge (see below).

Total calls

Informs you about the duration of all callsmade with your SIM card since the timer waslast reset. The conditions for also seeing thecost of these calls are identical with theconditions mentioned above in the Last callsub menu.

Reset timers and charge

Resets your timers, so that the call durationcounter is set to zero. You may be asked toenter your PUK2/PIN2 code.

Show timer and credit

You can select whether you want the Showtimer function to be on or off. If you turn it on,your telephone will display the actual durationof an ongoing conversation. The conditionsfor also seeing the cost are identical with theconditions mentioned above in the Last callsub menu.

Call charge

If your network supports this feature, this iswhere you deal with the call charge. To enter orchange call charge and currency you will berequested to enter your PUK2/PIN2 code. Youhave the following options:

»Call charge maximum«»Call charge unit price«»Call charge currency«»Call charge remaining«

Call charge maximumGives you the option of entering a maximumcall charge limit, so that when this maximumhas been reached no more phone calls can bemade.

Unstructured supplementary services (USSD)

On some networks you have the possibility ofsending unstructured supplementary servicestrings to your network. This is a featurecompletely defined by your network allowingdirect communication between you and thenetwork. An example of a USSD could be thatentering a certain code of digits and/or lettersterminated by a tells your network to sendyou a scale of charges. A USSD service stringshould always be terminated by pressing the

-key and »CALL«.In order to be able to send USSD service

strings you must enter the Phone setup menuand select »Speed dialling off«. Pressing therelevant keys 0 to 9 for one second will leadyou to the alpha mode enabling you to enterletters and digits instead of only digits.

When you enter this menu your phone acts asan ordinary calculator.

How to use the calculator

The equal-sign (=) is found on the right hand function key.

Hold down the relevant key for one second toget the desired arithmetic operation.

As soon as a figure is stored in the memory thiswill be indicated on the display by . You can access the memory by pressing orthe -key (MR).

The memory is reset each time you switch offyour phone.

Back to standby modePress »CLEAR« and hold down »EXIT« forone second.

Switch between calls

If you select »Switch«, the active call will be puton hold and the call on hold will now be active.In this way you can switch between yourconversations.

Drop an active call

An active call can be ended by selecting »Drop active«. The held call will remain onhold and you have to retrieve it to continueconversation.

Join calls

If you have an active call and a call on hold atthe same time, you can select »Join« to enableall of you to speak together.

Private call

If you have joined all calls and want to have aprivate conversation with one of the callers,select »Private«. The other calls will be put onhold.

Drop a held call

You can end the call put on hold by selecting»Drop held«.

Transfer a call

If you have an active call and a call on holdyou can connect the two by selecting »Transfer«.In that way, the two parties can talk togetherwhile you withdraw from the conversation.

Call a phone book number

During a conversation you can make a new callto a number stored in your phone book by selecting »Phone book«.

Send an SMS message

If, during a conversation, you want to send amessage to a third party select »Send SMS«.

Conversation menu

This menu is only available when you are actually talking on the phone.

Enter the Conversation menu: Press »MENU«Scroll through the options: and Select an option: Press »OK«

This menu offers you different kinds of optionswhile you are having a conversation:

Microphone off

Hold a call

Continue a call

Switch between calls

Drop an active call

Join calls

Private call

Drop a held call

Transfer a call

Call a phone book number

Send an SMS message

Note: The status of the call determines whichmenu items are visible and available for you toselect.

Microphone off

While having a call, you may wish to have aprivate conversation with someone next to you.You will hear everything your caller says, butyou cannot be heard by the caller. Select »Micro. off«, and then »Micro. on« when youwant to activate the microphone again.

Hold a call

You can make a second call without having toend a call that is currently active. Enter the second phone number and press »CALL«.

If you have activated the call waiting optionin the Setup menu (see page 22) you can alsoanswer a new incoming call without having toend the currently active call. When you hearthe special ringing tone in your earphone, youjust press »ANSWER«.

In both cases, the first call will automaticallybe put on hold. Please be aware that you canonly have one call on hold at a time. You canalso put calls on hold manually by selecting»Hold«.

Continue a call

When you want to retrieve the call put on hold,just select »Continue«.

Handsfree car kit

Remove the rubber plug covering the antennahole on the back on the phone.

When your phone is placed in the cradle, itwill switch on automatically with the carignition and so will the display and keypadbacklighting. The backlight will remain oncontinuously as long as the phone is switchedon.

The battery will be automatically rechargedwhen necessary.

Menu options

To set up your options concerning the car kit,you must press »MENU« and select »Phone setup«. If you then select »Car kit« youget two new options:

»Car kit auto answer«»Car kit power off«

Car kit auto answerWhen activating this function, your phone willautomatically answer a call after 5 seconds.This option is only effective when the carignition is on.

Car kit power offYou can select whether you want the telephoneto switch off automatically with the car ignitionafter a delay of 1 hour or whether you want toswitch it off manually.

If you have selected the automatic mode andwant to switch your telephone off while theignition is on, you can still do so manually.

Handsfree calling

Making and receiving handsfree calls work inexactly the same way as ordinary phoning. Theonly difference is that the conversation takesplace via the external speaker and microphone.

If you have activated any key answer in theSetup menu (page 26) you can answer the callby pressing any key (except for the left functionkey and the arrow keys).

Dual slot desktop charger

In the dual slot desktop charger you can placeboth your phone and a spare battery to becharged. The desktop charger is powered bymeans of the charger supplied with yourphone.

The battery on your phone will be charged asthe first. When you place the phone in thecharger you have to make sure that the batterysymbols on the display of your phone startflashing. During charging these symbols willflash on and off one after another. When thebattery is fully charged after approximately 2hours, all 4 symbols are permanently displayedif your phone is switched on. If your phone isswitched off, the symbols will disappear whenthe charging has been completed.

When a spare battery is placed in thecharger the LED indicator on the front willshow a red light, and then, when the sparebattery is fully charged, a green light . If theindicator is blinking red, the battery is defect.The indicator will be off when there is no sparebattery attached.

A High Power 1800 mAh NiMH batterycannot be charged in the dual slot desktopcharger.

Belt clip

The belt clip can be removed or fitted bymeans of a screwdriver. The necessary screwsand labels for mounting the belt clip will bedelivered together with the belt clip.

How to fit the belt clip: Remove the label (A) on the back of the phone.The belt clip can now be fitted by means of ascrewdriver. Place the label (B) on the belt clipto cover the screw.

How to remove the belt clip:Remove the label (B) on the belt clip. The beltclip can now be removed by means of a screw-driver. Place the label (A) on the back of thephone to cover the screw hole.

The left function key turns your phone on andoff. When the phone is on, the function of thesekeys varies according to whether you are instandby, menu, or conversation mode. The textline at the bottom of the display will informyou of the actual function of each key at anytime.

Arrow keys up/down

For controlling volume level during conversa-tion, and scrolling through menus, phone book,lists, messages, etc.

Voice mail key

Press for one second and get quick access toyour voice mail.

Key

Press for one second to insert the "+" beforeinternational phone numbers.

Key

Press for one second to insert a pause betweenthe main number and the extension number.

Last outgoing call

Press for one second and the call is initiated automatically (only if you have activated speeddialling).

Battery level indicator

4 bars: Battery is fully charged.1-3 bars: Battery is partly discharged.0 bars: Battery needs recharging.

You have limited conversationtime left. At the same time thephone will emit a short warningtone.

Signal strength indicator

The stronger the signal (more signal barsdisplayed), the better the radio connec-tion.

Scroll indicators

Show you that there are more functionsup or down which you can access.

Call indicators

There is a new call for you.. 2 You have missed two calls.

SMS message indicators

There is a new message for you.

On: There are still unread messages.Flashing: The SMS memory is full.

Voice mail indicator

Indicates that there is a voice mail for you.

Call divert indicator

On: All calls to your mobile telephone arediverted to another telephone number.Flashing: Check the status of your call diverts.

Volume level indicator

Indicates volume level when adjusting.

Tones indicator

On: Ring volume off.Flashing: All tones off.

Display and keypad backlighting

The backlight switches on automatically whenyou press a key. In standby mode the light will automatically switch off if no key is pressed for 10 seconds or more.
