    The three major concerns o IT and acility managers when assessing the

    lie-cycle cost o their power protection inrastructure are availability, ex-

    ibility and total cost o ownership (TCO). Thanks to many years o expe-

    rience and leadership in designing modular power protection solutions,

    Newaves newest three-phase UPS solution DPA UPScale simultane-

    ously addresses all three concerns. The DPA UPScale design is based on

    Newaves unique and proven Decentralized Parallel Architecture (DPA)

    that has been developed specifcally to respond to stringent lie-cycle cost

    requirements with the lowest environmental impact.

    DPA Maximum availabilityParallel architecture limited only to modular design does not guarantee

    the highest power protection or critical applications. The success o a

    parallel modular system depends largely on the design o the parallel

    architecture and on the level o intelligence o the individual modules.

    Modular systems based on DPA as opposed to Centralized Parallel

    Architectures (CPA) are ree o single points o ailure and maximise

    system uptime.

    Newaves modular DPA UPScale is built o sel-contained modules that

    include the entire UPS hardware and sotware ; hence, it eliminates all

    the common parts which are potential single points o ailure. A DPA

    module includes distributed CPUs, distributed control panels, distributedpower units and distributed static bypass switches. Even the batteries are

    separately confgured or each module, which makes the parallel system

    ully and truly redundant.

    The DPA parallel technology is based on the Multi-Master Technology

    and the Majority Decision-Making Principle. The Multi-Master Tech-

    nology minimises the cross-currents between the modules and ensures

    equal load-sharing o the individual modules at all times. In the unlikely

    event o a master module ault, the next module will become master

    and the system will continue to share the load perectly. In the case o

    an external event such as a shor t circuit or a mains ailure, the Majority

    Decision-Making Principle comes into operation. Every individual module

    will detect the event and then decide which source (inverter, mains or

    battery) is the saest. Based on the majority decision o the modules, the

    correct action is taken. The optimum parallel UPS solution is only possible

    with systems that provide a Multi-Master Architecture and are based on the

    Majority Decision-Making Pr inciple, such as the DPA rom Newave.

    DPA High level o exibilityCritical applications continuously change their power requirements, which

    oten increase with time. Managing those changes is a challenge or UPS man-

    uacturers when designing a truly scalable UPS where modules can be added

    without transerring the load to unreliable raw mains. UPS systems based on

    DPA allow or incremental expansions whilst ensuring redundancy at all

    times. DPA permits the inrastructure size to be scaled

    to align with present IT requirements. It is pos-

    sible to star t with just a ew modules and add to

    them as required in an easy and sae way.

    True sae-swap and sae-scale modularity

    enables the sae replacement or insertion o

    UPS modules into the UPS system without

    the need to transer the critical load onto

    raw mains or to remove power rom the

    critical load. The ability to sae-swap modules

    signifcantly reduces the systems mean timeto repair (MTTR) and simplifes system

    upgrades. Thanks to the unique compact

    design and low weight (10 kW = 18.6 kg, 20

    kW = 21.5 kg) o the DPA UPScale modules,

    inserting additional modules or replacing

    existing ones during operation is easy and

    can be per ormed by a single technician.

    DPA Lowest total cost o ownershipSaving costs and optimising capital deployment are top priorities, and IT

    acility managers must make eective investments to increase the efciency

    o their IT systems. An inras tructure that uses cost-eective and exible

    modular power protection solutions with signifcantly lower operating costs

    will create competitive advantages in the medium term. The DPA UPScale

    oers the lowest cost o ownership o any UPS system by oering energy

    efciency, scalable exibility and highest availability due to true redundancy

    has been designed in two versions:

    DPA UPScale ST (Standard) or applications that require a stan-

    dard power protection solution including rame, UPS , battery and

    communication

    DPA UPScale RI (Rack-Independent) including UPS, bat tery and

    communication which can be integrated into any 19 rack in indus-

    trial, telecom or other applications

    DPA UPScale ST: the compact all-rounderDesigned or high-density computing environments, the DPA UPScale STdelivers power protection rom 10 kW to 120 kW (1 to 6 modules) in a

    single industry-standard 19 rame. The powerul confguration oers a

    solution with maximum power density o 272 kW/m2. Its exible design

    provides a pay as you grow model, ideal in situations where require-

    ments change quickly and unpredictably. The DPA UPScale enables cost

    reduction through the best-in-class efciency perormance, ast and

    efcient implementation and extremely low overall operating costs.

    The DPA UPScale ST is specially designed or space-saving exibility.

    Space limitations are oten a challenge, especially in areas where the real

    estate prices are very high. Consequently, the small ootprint may be a

    major decision-making criterion when it comes to choosing the appro-

    priate power protection system.

    System architecture with the DPA UPScale STThe DPA UPScale ST can be deployed in a variety o system architectures

    to support the specifc requirements o your IT inrastructure. The ST 40
