PetitionWant to keep our surgery at the
centre of Stansted?
How will this affect the elderly, infirm, young mums and those
without transport?
What impact will this have on the village shops and our
community?
Might this affect the future of our chemist?
Do you agree that Stansted’s main Health Centre should be at
the centre of the village with appropriate facilities for
Foresthall Park?
Why do we need a new primary care centre for Stansted and the surrounding areas? The new centre will:
• Allow GPs, practice staff and other healthcare professionals like district nurses or health visitors to work side by side to deliver more integrated care for their patients
• Create the opportunity for the development of local services alleviating the need for patients to attend a hospital and, where appropriate, to have their care looked after closer to their home
• Provide an all round better environment and experience for patients
• Provide facilities that our clinicians and staff deserve to deliver services from
• Provide Stansted and the surrounding villages with access to NHS Dentistry
• Provide a facility that is accessible for all, meeting DDA requirements

• Psychological therapy services
• Rehabilitation clinics (cardiac, chest and pulmonary)

• Specialist clinics (diabetes, dermatology)
• Pre-surgical assessment clinics where patients are assessed locally prior to admission to hospital for surgery
• Improved pre and post-natal clinics
and the potential for much more
Why do we need a primary care centre now?•The GPs need new premises as the lease on existing
premises is to expire
•We need additional primary care capacity for the population growth associated with Foresthall
•Current premises offer a very poor patient and staff environment
•Current premises restrict the development of new services for local people
Why are we proposing to develop the facility at Foresthall?•After fully evaluating all possible sites we believe there
are no other suitable sites centrally located in Stansted
•Land is secured under a section 106 with the developers and available now
•A primary care centre could be operational winter 2009
•There is land for the development and associated parking
But
•The GP surgery now moves from the north of Stansted to the south
•There are transport issues that the PCT will need to address
Location of proposed new surgery at Stansted
The red dots show the distribution of 7,795 patients registered at Stansted surgery. The larger the dot the greater the patient population numbers. The shaded areas indicate residential areas such as towns and villages.
Data Source: NHS Strategic tracing service as at March 08.
What options have we looked at between1995 - 2008?1. Purpose built centre on Elms Farm adjacent to the railway line
2. Purpose built centre on land on land further into the greenbelt on Elms Farm
3. Purpose built centre on land adjacent to the catholic church
4. Silver Street residential conversion
5. A conversion of the old Sworders auction house
6. Redevelopment of Peter Kirk School
7. Purpose built centre at Crafton Green on land occupied by the parish council offices, library and car park
8. Purpose built centre on Cambridge Road presented by land owner
9. A conversion of Western House
10.A purpose built centre on Rochford Nursery site on land secured through a section 106 agreement
Some of your concernsWhy should people travel further to their GP or other health services?
• Some people will travel further to the centre and some will travel less
• Working with Essex County Council Passenger Transport and Uttlesford Community Transport to identify potential solutions including:
• Possible diversion of existing bus routes to include village centre • Possible funding of pilot transport route• improved pedestrian and cycle links between the existing
settlement and the new site • Potential for contribution of funding towards a community
transport solution e.g. driver employed to prioritise patients in Stansted and surrounding areas, door to door service.
• Crossing facilities over the main road, provision of benches and lighting along the footpath (for those coming to and from the town centre), signage
• Sufficient car parking available on site
Some of your concerns
• The new housing development will not include a new pharmacy and will have very limited retail provision
• The PCT will work with Stansted pharmacy to develop new arrangements to avoid unnecessary journeys for people collecting prescriptions
• We believe that there is, therefore, no serious threat to the commercial life of Stansted village centre
Will the surgery moving destroy the commercial centre of the village?
What are your views?
What services would you like to see provided from the new centre?

We will continue to look at alternative sites elsewhere in the village.
However we must pursue this site.
