Modi's vision of 'smart cities'

Prime Minister Narendra Modi's has a vision for advanced cities that benefit from the latest technology.

The government plans to build 20 million homes for the urban poor by 2022.

Concepts and themes such as green cities, zero waste, optical fibre networks,gas grids, and mobile governance will be the part of these Smart Cities.

On smart cities, Modi said, decisions will be taken by city's leadership, its people and the urban local bodies.

What is a Smart City?

A city equipped with basic infrastructure:

Assured water and electricity supply, sanitation and solid waste management, efficient urban mobility and public transport, robust IT connectivity, e-governance and citizen participation, safety and security of citizens will include the basic infrastructure of Smart City.

On June 25, Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled the ambitious Rs. 48,000-crore Smart City project.

About 23,000 hectares of land across areas in L Zone.

Upcoming Project of Smart cities includes 20 lakh flats.

Smart City Concept IncludesDedicated bicycle lanes, High frequency mass transport, 24x7 water and power supplies to all households, No water logging incidents in a year, 100% web coverage, 30 minutes emergency medical response time, and facilities like parks, shops, parks, schools, Recreational areas to be located within 400 meters of 95% households.

What is Land Pooling?The technique for promoting efficient, sustainable and equitable land development in the urban fringes is land pooling/readjustment.

Land Pooling is done to develop and bring out the potential of housing and infrastructure to reduce the load on the existing congested and saturated areas, like core parts of Delhi.

What is Land Pooling Policy?

As per the provisions of the Delhi Development Act 1957, Land Pooling is a concept that where small chunks of land are owned by group of owners who assemble for the development of infrastructure.

The land pooling policy has been notified on 05.09.2013 and approved by the Ministry of Urban Development on 26th May 2015

Regulations for executing the policy has been finalized for consideration and approval by the Government of India.

What is Land Pooling Policy?Under the policy, interested land owners can surrender their land and give it to the DDA along with a development charge.

The DDA, in turn, will give the land to real estate developers.

Once developed, the developer entity or land owners will get back 48 per cent or 60 per cent of what they pooled in.

The rest of the developed area will be retained by DDA or the private builder who can put it on sale.

Once implemented in Delhi, the project can also be carried forward to the National Capital Region (NCR).

L-Zone

What is L-Zone ?The south west corner of Delhi and is the closest to South Delhi and shares its boundary with Gurgaon.

L Zone is the largest of all the 15 Zones in Delhi and boasts Najafgarh as the only census town in the zone. The zone is closest to Existing Dwarka sub-city and IGI Airport.

The proposed connectivity of the Zone with Gurgaon and with Delhi, make it well connected to South Delhi & Gurgaon.

Covered Area and Other Specifications of L Zone

Total land of 22,840 Hectares is allocated in the MPD 2021.DDA has reserved 900 acres of land to build a huge water reservoir.North side of L Zone is surrounded by NH-10 / Rohtak Road and Railway line.In the east side, there will be Dwarka Sub-City and Zone K.L Zone will touch NCT of Delhi boundary on South and West Sides.Delhi government has also identified a green belt along the NCT Delhi boundary.
