Please keep this manual in a safe and handy place for future reference.

Assembly• Assembling/disassembling the rack and/or mounting/re-movingtheinstrumentshouldalwaysbedoneonafloorthatisflatandstable.Doingsoonanunstable,sloped,orsteppedsurfacecanresultintheinstrumentfallingover.

• Whenadjustingtheheightwithpercussioninstrumentsotherthanthevibes(cymbals,snare,etc.)attachedtotherack,removetheinstrumentsbeforeadjusting,thenreattachafteradjustmentiscomplete.Adjustingheightwiththeinstrumentsontherackcanresultinpinchedfingers,hands,etc.,causinginjury.

Do not open• Donotdismantleormodifythevibraphone’scontrollerordriver.Doingsocancausefireorelectricalshock.

Whenmovingtheinstrumentonitscasters:1.Avoidmovingtheinstrumentonsurfacesthatareslopedoruneven.Theinstrumentcanoverturn,runoutofcontrol,andbeadanger.

2.Neverrunwiththeinstrument.Theinstrumentmaybecomeimpossibletocontrolandcrashintoawallcausingseriousinjury.

• Heightadjustmentshouldalwaysbedonewithatleasttwopersons.Ifdoingitaloneisunavoidable,adjusttheheighttwounitsontheslideguideatatime.

• Frequentlymovingtheinstrumentcanloosenpartsandbolts.Alwayscheckforloosebolts/partsaftermovingandtightenifneeded.

• Lockthebrakesonthecasterswhentheinstrumentisnotinuse.

Make sure to observe the following instructions when discarding the gas spring.As pressurized nitrogen gas is sealed in the gas spring, be sure to release before discarding it, or an explo-sion may occur, causing an injury.

Do not make a hole anywhere other than the specified positions (q and w in the Fig.1).

Do not throw it in the fire.

[Discarding procedure]1. Put thegasspring inaplasticbag.Usingadrillof2 to3

mm,makeaholeqfromoutsideoftheplasticbagatthepositionasspecifiedinthefiguretoreleasethegasandoiland then make a hole watthepositionasspecified.

(Be sure to make holes in the order of q and w. )

2. Ifavinylbagisnotused,theoilanddrillchipswillspread.(Insuchacase,weareyeprotectionglasses.)

* Drill 2 holes as shown above to release the gas before discarding the gas spring.

Please observe the following instructions for proper handling of the gas spring.

● Donotapplyahightensileloadtothegasspringasitwillcausedamagetothegasspring.

● In the event of a failure, stop using the instrument and contact the shop of its pur-chase. If your dealer is unable to assist you, please contact Yamaha directly.

CautionThisgasspringrequiresnooilsupplytoitsslidingsection.Additionaloilwillreducethesealingdurabilityandcausetheoiltoleak.

Never apply any impact to the gas spring. Itwill causeoil leakage,malfunction or breakage.

Neverdisassemblethegasspring.Asahighpressuregasissealedinit,disassemblingitwillcauseahighrisk.

Thegasspringisnotrigidenoughtopreventbendingduetounbalancedloads.Donotattempttobendit.Apoorlybalancedloadwillcausetherodtobend,resultingindefectiveoperation.

Notethatanickinthepistonrodorcylinderwillshortentheservicelifeofthesealorresultindefectiveoperation.Donothitthepistonrodorcylinder.

Donot expose thegas spring to anexcessively highor low temperature.Theallowable temperaturerangeforuseis-20°Cto50°C.

Avoidusingtheinstrumentwhereitisexposedtotorain,waterormuchdust.Itwillcausemalfunction.

Donotapplyanexcessiveforcetolifttheframeendandpulloffthegasspringfromtheleg.Itwillcausemalfunctionorbreakage.

Assembly

1. Place the bass side leg section on a rug or other softmaterialspreadonthefloorwiththeholeforthepedalstayfacingup.

2. Insert thepedalstayall thewayintotheholeonthebassside legbaseplateso thenotchalignswith thewingbolt, then tighten thewingboltse-curely.

* Please note the orientation of the pedal stay when attaching. Make sure that the stay is at-tached with the bolt heads connecting the rein-forcement stay to the pedal stay facing the audi-ence. (See the figure above.)

3. Remove thewingnut,springwasher,andwasherfromthebolt locatedon thecenter railof thebassside leg,andslide theslottedendof the reinforce-mentstayontothebolt,thensecurethestaywiththewasher,springwasher,andwingnut.

4. Position thebassside legsectionupright,and lockthecasterbrake.

5. Inthesamemanner,connectthepedalstayandre-inforcementstaytothetreblesidelegsection.

6. Loosen the clampscrewsonbothendsof therackpipeandfastentheclampsontothepolesontheupperlegsection.

Therackpipecanbeattachedso itsclampsideiseitherontheaudiencesideortheplayer’ssideof thepole.Decidehowmuch space youneedbetween the rackpipeand tonebarsandattachtherackpipeaccordingly.

Forsafety,assemblyshouldbeperformedbyat least2persons ina locationwithsufficientspace.

7. Attachtheinstrumenttotherack. Position the instrument on the rack with the bolt

holes (A) locatedon thesideplateof the instru-ment aligned with the holes (B)on theracksideframe.

Using thewashers, springwashers, and knobheadbolts suppliedwith the rack, attach the in-strument to the rack from theundersideof therack(fourlocations).

8. Attachthepedalrodtotheinstrument.1. Loosenthecenterrodfixingboltstoextendthe

centerrod.2. Connect the center rodwith the fittingof the

rodconnectorbyfirmlyholding thecenter rodwhileturningtherodconnector.

3. Tighten the rod connector until it stops, andthensecurewiththelocknut.

9. Attachtheresonators. Insert the resonators fromunderneath the frame

and rest the treble side and then the bass side ontotheresonatorholders(rubber).

* Make sure not to confuse the natural tone side and accidental tone side resonators.

* Take care not to bump the resonators against the legs etc.

10. Attachthedriver.1. Loosenthetwowingboltslocatedunderneath

thetreblesideoftheinstrument.2. Fully insert thedrivermount into the support

fitting.

3. Slide the fittingsmoved in step10-1 back in thedirectionofthetrebleside.Engagethetwosidemountsonthedriversecurelywiththefit-tings,andthentightenthefixingboltstofastenthedriver.* Set thedriver so that thepulleysoneither sidearepositioneddirectlybelowthefansidepulleys.

11. Attachthecontroller. Thereare twocontrollermountingpins locatedon

theplayer’ssideofthetrebleendoftheinstrument. Align the two holes in the controller mounts with

thesepinsandhookthecontrollerontothepinsonesideatatime.

13. Attachtheroundbelt(fanbelt)*. Slip the roundbelt (fanbelt) over the fan side

pulleyfirst,and thenpull itover theflangeof thedriverpulley.

Ifthebeltcannotbemountedbecausethedis-tancebetween thepulleys is toowide, or thebeltslipsdue toa toonarrowpulleydistance,loosen the twodriver positioning screws (seeillustration to the right) to adjust thepulleydistance(belt tension).Tightenthescrewsse-curelyafteradjustment.

14. Pedal Stroke Adjustment Loosenthecenterrodfixingbolts(refertopage7)

toadjusttheprotrudinglengthofthecenterrodtothedesiredpedal stroke, and retighten thebolts.Therecommendedstroke(distancebetweenped-alandfloor)is9/16"to13/16"(1.5to2cm).

15. Tone Bar Height Adjustment

1. Loosentheslidelegfixingboltswhilesupport-ingboth thebassand treble side framesbyhand.

2.Gasspringsintherackslideguideswillcausethe instrument to riseautomatically.After ad-justing the instrument to the requiredheight,tightenthefixingboltsfirmly.Usetheguidesonthe slideguides to adjust theplaying surfacesoitisparalleltothefloor.

16. Afterassembly,confirmthateachboltistightenedsecurely.

Then,followtheinstructionsonthenextpageandconnect thepowersupply to thecontrollerpowerjack(DC12-15VIN).

Never loosen the slide guide fixing bolts without the tone bars attached to the rack frame or on the legs when not attached to the rack.

When adjusting the height of the playing surface, make sure that adjustment is carried out by at least two people. If a single person must unavoidably carry out adjustment, do not move the guides any more than 2 slide guide memory positions at a time.
