Minorité / Minority Une minorité est un groupe qui se distingue sur le

plan culturel, ethnique ou racial et qui coexiste avec un groupe dominant mais toujours dans un état de subordinance. Tel que ce terme est employé dans les sciences sociales, cette subordinance est la principale caractéristique déterminante d'un groupe minoritaire.

A minority is a culturally, ethnically, or racially distinct group that coexists with but is subordinate to a more dominant group. As the term is used in the social sciences, this subordinancy is the chief defining characteristic of a minority group..

Discrimination

La discrimination est l'action de distinguer entre des objets ou entre des individus. Le sens de ce terme est à l'origine neutre, synonyme du mot « distinction », mais il a pris, dès lors qu'il concerne une question sociale, une connotation péjorative, désignant l'action de distinguer de façon injuste ou illégitime, comme le fait de séparer un groupe social des autres en le traitant plus mal.

Discrimination is the act of distuingishing between objects or people. The word is originally neutral in meaning and synonymous to the word ”distinction”, but because it is often used to describe social social affairs, it has come to carry a pejorative connotation, describing the act of unfairly or unlawfully distinguishing between different groups of people, such as for example separating certain social groups from others by treating them worse.

Cohésion sociale / social cohesion

La cohésion sociale est la nature et l'intensité des relations sociales qui existent entre les membres d'une société au sens large, d'une société restreinte, habitat humain ou d'une organisation. Ce concept est utilisé au sens large sans connotations pour signifier l'intensité du lien social.

Social cohesion is the nature and the intensity of the social bonds that exist between the members of a society at large, a restricted society, a human habitat or organisation. This concept is used broadly and without connotations to speak of the intesity of the social links.

Droits humains / human rights

Les droits humains sont un concept selon lequel tout être humain possède des droits universels, inaliénables, quel que soit le droit positif en vigueur ou les autres facteurs locaux tels que l'ethnie, la nationalité ou la religion.

Human rights is a concept according to which each human being possesses inalienable and universal rights, regardless of existing laws or other local factors such as ethnicity, nationality or religion.

Inclusion

L’inclusion désigne l’action d’inclure ou l’état de ce qui est inclu. Le verbe inclure, qui lui-même désigne le fait d’insérer quelqu’un en tant que membre ou part dans un groupe, une classe, etc., vient du latin includere (même sens), de in- et claudere, « fermer ».

The act of including or the state of that which is included. The verb to include, which means to bring somebody into a group, a class, etc. as a part or member, comes from the Latin includere (same meaning), from in- and claudere, ”to close”.

Intégration / integration

L’intégration est l’action ou le processus d’intégrer, ou l’état de devenir intégré, le verbe intégrer désignant l’action d’ajouter une unité à un tout afin que les deux fusionnent. En sociologie, intégration veut dire le fait de s’adapter à une culture ou un pays.

Integration is the act or process of integrating or the state of becoming integrated, the verb integrate meaning to join a unit to a whole, so that the two fuse or become one. In sociology, integration means the act of adapting oneself to a culture or a country.
