In early 2016, Mulzer Crushed Stone ordered a Series 1500B/Model 11264 E-Crane which will be mounted on a deck barge.The E-Crane has a maximum duty cycle capacity of 16.5 metrictonnes (18.2 US tons) and a maximum outreach of 26.4 metres(86.5 feet). This is a flexible mobile floating offloading platformthat allows barge unloading to a shore-mounted hopper, floatinghopper or direct to trucks depending on the product andlocation. The floating rig incorporates the latest design for spudoperation, barge haul winches and power distribution.

This is the third E-Crane purchased by Mulzer since 2011.The first E-Crane was also a barge mounted 1500 Series/Model11264 for handling aggregate. The company was very pleasedwith the installation and successful performance of this E-Crane.

In 2014, Mulzer ordered a second machine, a smaller EH900Series E-Crane/Model 8248. This machine has a capacity ofmetric tonnes (15.0 US tons) and a maximum outreach of 24.8metres (81.5 feet). This is also for moving aggregate from bargeto hopper. This machine has also been performing well sinceinstallation in 2015.

BENEFITS OF BARGE

MOUNTING

The E-Crane balanceddesign makes it ideal forbarge mounting. The E-Crane design is based ona parallelogram-styleboom which provides adirect mechanicalconnection between thecounterweight and theload. This unique four-barmechanism ensures thatthe E-Crane remains in anear perfectly balancedstate throughout its entireworking range. Whileconventional cranes use asmuch as 80% of theiravailable energy just to move the boom, stick, and grab, the E-Crane allows gravity to work for you instead of against you,reducing horsepower requirements and power consumption byup to 50% and significantly reducing maintenance and operatingcosts.

Along with the significant energy savings that a balanceddesign provides, it makes the E-Crane ideal for mounting on afloating barge. Because the crane is balanced, the movement ofthe E-Crane causes very minimal listing and movement of thebarge.

A barge-mounted crane is also beneficial because it floats up

and down along with the material barges when the waterelevation changes. This means that the cycle of picking materialout of the barge is never affected by water fluctuation.
