This is the act of having employees participate in:
• Planning• Problem Solving• Decision Making
Employee Involvement• Leaders need to act on employee concerns and
suggestions• Employees must be empowered (to make
decisions about safety)• Employment involvement doesn’t just happen• What are some ways that employees can be
involved?• Involvement also includes recognition• In safety we spend more time trying to catch
people doing what?

1. Validity (are you observing all behaviors – are you measuring what you want to)2. Reliability (are you getting consistent results – is there
enough data to draw an accurate conclusion)3. Practicality (Is measurement easy to use- is data
easy to collect, analyze, share)4. Usefulness (can you use the data – Can others take
action)

4 Steps in the Continuous Improvement Process
1. Management Commitment (they must lead the effort)
2. Know where you are at (help know if you’ve gotten where you want to go)
3. Plan (a safety culture doesn’t happen by accident)
4. Adjust Course (what works and what doesn’t work)
