In this increasingly complex world combined with the financial downturn of the global economy and theissues facing the planet and their communities, business as usual is not enough. Dell believes in making ameaningful difference through innovation and inspiration.

Dell focuses on the ideals of environmental responsibility, corporate accountability and socialresponsibility because addressing these issues supports the attainment of financial goals and can be

critical to long-term corporate success.

Environmental Responsibility

Dell aspires to be the greenest technology company on the planet. They strive to innovate by improvingthe efficiency and design of their products. They call this initiative to be ³greenest´ technology in theworld as Enviro 2.0. There are six focus areas for Enviro 2.0 framework:

  Climate Leadership

  Sustainable Operations  Product and Packaging Solutions

  Global Recycling

  Engagement and Empowerment  Services and Solution

 

Dell has been recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for its leadership in green power. In the July 2008 EPA Fortune 500 Green Power Challenge rankings, Dell improved their positionto No. 3 from No. 12.Dell¶s leadership in addressing climate change extends beyond direct operations. Dell¶s impact on theenvironment stems from its supply chain, products and operations. They believe that responsibly reducingtheir carbon impact depends on empowering their customers and encouraging the supply chain to reduceoverall electricity consumption.

Dell focused on the following initiatives to address climate change leadership:  Energy efficiency in Dell operations  Green-power purchases

  Responsible carbon offsets

They met their goal to fulfill their operational carbon-neutral commitment in 2008.

Dell strives to use water, energy and forest products responsibly wherever they do business, and aspires tomeet a target of zero waste.

Dell recognizes opportunity to support their customers¶ environmental goals, too and help them useenergy responsibly through their innovative products and services, and save them money in the process.To achieve their goal, they are taking an innovative ³green by design´ approach for all of their products,using the most energy-efficient components.Dell leads the industry in  packaging innovations ² creating the cube, content and curb metric (the ³3

Cs´) to capture the benefits of smarter packaging. They have introduced new packaging, such as air cushions in Europe, and other cushioning material, such as a thermal-form HDPE cushion.

Dell is committed to the environmentally responsible reuse and recycling of their products when their 

customers are finished with them. To facilitate this process, they established and continue to invest infree, easy, convenient, far-reaching and well-utilized collection networks for used consumer equipmentthroughout the world. To assist customers with their own environmental goals, Dell has created a series of services & solutions hat helps IT professionals assess their operations and identify ways to improve them.

Their SustainabilityCouncil, consisting of leaders from key business functions, meets quarterly to reviewsustainability-related risks, opportunities and associated actions.

Corporate Accountability

At Dell, the importance of people drives their priorities ² from fair and equal opportunity, to personalhealth, to each person¶s financial security. Dell has built ethics and integrity into their key corporategrowth initiatives, encouraging people to accept responsibility and enabling them to take action. They believe the secret of corporate accountability at Dell is the pride that their people take in their company.

During the first quarter of fiscal year 2010, Dell completed reorganization from their geographiccommercial segments allowing them to serve customers with faster innovation and greater responsiveness.Dell makes it a priority to engage with a range of their stakeholders on their corporate responsibilityinitiatives. Dell is heavily engaged with their various stakeholder groups and partnered with them atvarious locations and forums such as in Berlin, Germany and Boston, Massachusetts.

Dell¶s Ethics and Compliance program provides guidance to help them to focus is on three keycomponents: culture, compliance and credibility. Dell actively fosters a culture where employees can beconfident and proud that they act legally and ethically. Dell achieved 100% completion rate in Ethic andcompliance Education for its employees.

Dell was invited by the Ethisphere Institute to help launch the Business Ethics Leadership Alliance(BELA). With a mission to reinforce ethical principles and priorities, BELA aims to strengthenworldwide confidence in free enterprise

Dell¶s worldwide Procurement Supply Chain Supplier Environmental Responsibility Team works withregional Tier 1 suppliers on Electronic Industry Citizenship Coalition (EICC) Code of  Conductcompliance in the areas of labor, environmental, and health and safety management systems. Their 

Supplier Diversity Team is committed to providing equal access to procurement opportunities for qualified small, minority and woman-owned businesses in the U.S.

In fiscal year 2009, Dell became a member of the Billion Dollar Roundtable, an organization that bringstogether businesses that achieved spending of at least $1 billion annually with minority- and woman

owned suppliers. The Dell team increased procurement spending with small, minority owned and woman-owned suppliers.Dell is continually streamlining their organizational structure to enable innovation, not only in their  products but in their transparency with customers.

Social Responsibility

Dell committed to a goal of becoming a 1-% company. They have set an aspirational goal of increasingtheir global giving efforts to achieve 1 % of their annual pretax profits by 2010. Their plan includes:  Implement a centralized, online solution for capturing data on giving (dollars, in-kind donations

and volunteer hours) ² recording impact and sharing measurable results.

  Form a Global Giving Council made up of executives from China, India, UAE, Mexico, Europe,

Brazil and the U.S. to guide giving efforts and ensure that they are applied in targeted areas.  Focus giving on youth in the areas of education, digital inclusion and the environment.

In fiscal year 2009, Dell increased the amount Dell gave from 0.42 % of annual pre-tax prof ts to 0.74 %,an increase of more than $8 million.

This year Dell introduced Dell YouthConnect, their signature program for digital inclusion that promoteseducation in math, science, literacy and technology skills for young people in emerging countries. Withan initial focus in India, Dell partnered with NGO¶s to develop programs for tomorrow¶s connectedgeneration, teaching them how to use technology, providing access to the right technology resources, and

encouraging students from all backgrounds to reach their full potential through technology. With thesuccess in India, Dell is ready to begin similar programs in Brazil, Mexico and China and to closetechnology gaps.

For more than a decade, the Dell Foundation has focused on helping children by equipping them for thedigital world. The Foundation aims to proactively address fundamental requirements for children to learn

and excel in a connected global economy. Dell, together with its employees and the Dell Foundation,contributed more than $24.5 million to non-profit organizations globally. Through their  One Dell: One

Community campaign, their employees align their passions with a charity of choice and share their talentsand time. In fiscal year 2009, more than 36 % of their global employees participated in September¶s

Global Community Involvement month. Through the Direct Giving program, their employees have theoption to give to specific causes.

Dell made some important contributions to protect human rights like they provided a monetary grant to anIndia-based NGO to help provide digital education and training to children of sex workers and youngwomen rescued from trafficking. Also, their nondiscrimination policy was updated to include gender identity, pregnancy and HIV status. They have also joined fight against AIDS in Africa. In partnershipwith the EICC and their supply chain, Dell improved working conditions at their suppliers through their 

audit process.

To achieve their vision for an even more diverse and inclusive global company, Dell established a globaldiversity strategy, reviewed regularly by the Global Diversity Council, focused on:  strong, visible leadership and clear expectations on accountability for diversity and inclusion  genuine commitment to diversity and inclusion built into their business practices  thorough integration of these behaviors in their talent and performance management

Dell Employee Networking Groups serve as advocates for inclusion and are active in supporting, pilotingand implementing programs aligned with the company strategy. Dell provides many opportunities for employees to learn and excel ² enabling them to maximize their talents and inspire the next generationof Dell leaders. Taking the Stage is a mentoring program designed by women, for women. Their women

leaders use this forum to teach, mentor and build relationships with future women leaders of Dell.Dell for the first time is voted in Working Mother 100 best Company List.

To measure their success and progress, diversity and inclusion are integral parts of companywideassessments such as:

  Tell Dell is their annual employee survey in which employees are encouraged to speak candidlyabout the programs, policies and management of the company. In 2008, 85 % of their employees participated in the survey.

  Organizational Human Resources Process (OHR P) is their people-planning process that helpsthem ensure that Dell provide fair and equal treatment to all employees.

  The Global Diversity Council regularly reviews the progress of their diversity initiatives usingDell¶s diversity scorecard.

Dell continues to build trust with customers and stakeholders and inspire them by demonstrating their  positive impact on society and the planet. It¶s a commitment driven by the types of goals, strategies andaccountabilities that characterize every part of their business.
