As Global Citizens We Unite
Hearing my parents talk about all the different places they had lived in prepared me for thinking globally. This perspective took away any fears of being able to function in a foreign country. (Anna Sui, Designer)
I n these tough times, it’s easy to forget that during the past century, the world has gotten better. World War I & I I? The call of truce has been dialed for the sake of every human being. 1907 financial panic? Capitalism has changed more than a million people’s economic life. But nowadays, problems just keep revealing and emerge from every aspect. Amid all the difficulties and hardship that we are about to undergo, I see one silver lining. It tends to lure people from every nation and races into one particular unity, consisting of us, global citizens.
Global warming and deforestation are just the beginning of a chaotic era. How about the future of civilization? I t’s not as conspicuous as what the paranormals think.
Globalization is an inevitable example of the result of the enhancement of technology. That is why, in this matter, being a global citizen means that we have to think universally, and exchange our thoughts with other inhabitants in the world coming from any kinds of nations.
The main point of being a global citizen is once again, to create a limit in national individuality, gain cooperation between each and every world citizens, valuing diversity, and understanding that our ethnicity, creed, and color are of secondary importance to the fact that we are all human beings.
For me, personally, this is only a matter of self realization. I f someone ask me;
“Ok, you, what would you do to solve this mess?”
I ’d answer consciously, “I ’ll gather all the people in the world and start managing a civilized community of diversity with a natural environment as best as I can.”, with fragments of hoped viability.
I n this vast globalization era, people are starting to cooperate with expatriates and international workers on merely any project. And that is the fun of it. We tend to mingle with anyone and endeavor to avoid further unprecedented problems in the social community. The role of racism in most countries is less widely appreciated nowadays.

GLOBAL CITIZEN
What is a global citizen? Can any person become a global citizen? A global citizen,
is literally a person who is a citizen of the world. As long as a person does care and is
concerned about things happening to the world, he is a global citizen. You might be
wondering about the jobs of a global citizen. As a global citizen, one should not be
afraid to advise others.
If you see a person throwing rubbish onto the floor, muster up your courage to
advise him or her. As you know these days, our globe is alerting us to stop making her
ill. There are disasters, such as volcano eruptions, abnormally heavy snow, tsunamis
and hurricanes. The global issue now is global warming. Do not call yourself a global
citizen if you do not know this issue.
Men still do not want to stop development, carry out deforestations, and resort to
open burning. Most of them do these for one reason – money. Men could do anything
for money, even destroying the habitats of many species of floras and faunas. This does
not mean that development should not be carried out. However, the process should be
given a quota.
Nowadays, there are so many people cutting down the forests. The local
government should limit the number of license given out for deforestations. The trees,
the grass, the forests are the ‘lungs’ of the Earth. Why should men destroy these forests?
Men cut down the forest for their own benefits and fail think of the negative effects of
their actions.
The gases that come from the factories, vehicles and open burning contain a lot of
poisonous compounds that may harm human life. Actually, there are ways to overcome
all these problems. It is just that, men doubt their ability in saving our globe.
The inventions by our great inventors were to make our lives more relaxable and
simpler, not to harm human lives. A few inventors that share their useful inventions
with us, Thomas Alva Edison, Alexander Graham Bell, James Watt and Robert Hooke. I
am sure their motive of inventing was to help make our lives easier than the past.
If everyone tries struggling to put in an effort making our lives easier without
abandoning the environment, I am sure that everyone will live a happier live. However,
irresponsible men still live among us, destroying the environment.

I Want to Be a Global Citizen

Tzu-Yen Wang (王子晏)
I n my mind, to be a global citizen isn’t so important to me
until I learn how people devastate the earth. I love my
hometown. I think such a beautif ul place should be protected
and we shouldn’t do the earth any harm. I f I am a global
citizen, the most important duty must be to help the earth to
survive.
Tainan, my hometown, is rich in historical sites and
cultural heritage. With its long history, Tainan is fi lled with
many important cultural and historic relics which are the
reminders of the city's past. Bird-watching in Tainan is also a
joyf ul must. Every year, black-faced Spoonbills, an
endangered species, visit Tainan to stay for the winter. About
two thirds of the world population winters in Taiwan's
Tsengwen River estuary.
I can’t imagine if the air in my hometown isn’t f resh
anymore, the trees die, the animals cry or the rivers have no
more lives, and how can we still survive? I can’t bear if
pollution is our neighbor, destruction becomes our belief , and
paleness is the only color of the breathless earth, and how can
we still live with them? I f everyone can do something helpful,
the earth will give us one more chance to have it again. Believe
me.
I want to be a global citizen. I will invite everyone to join
the saving the earth projects. I need everyone around me to
help make less noise. I can also advise everyone and myself to
stop ruining animals. I wish everyone and my family members
to ride bikes more and drive cars less. I have to remind
everyone to economize on water. To waste less energy and to

Land and trees
Green was the color of the earth.
Land and trees, they were close f riends.
One day, people appeared.
Built buildings, they cut down the trees.
Af ter that, many f orests disappeared.
Land was still here, but in lonely...
...toxic trash, polluted water...made land in tears.
Can you change it, people? _I know one way.
I t’s diffi cul, but practical.
Take care of the earth, that’s your work.
