Declaring the boundaries of the to be established Catholic Parish in Marshalltown, Iowa Having decided to unite by merger the parishes of St. Mary and St. Henry in Marshalltown, Iowas to form one new territorial parish, I hereby declare that the boundaries of the new parish shall be: 1. On the North: the northern Marshall County boundary line. The southern boundaries of St. Mary

Parish in Eldora, Hardin County, Iowa and Holy Family Parish in Reinbeck, Grundy County, Iowa are changed to reflect this.

2. On the South: the Marshall County boundary line 3. On the East: the eastern Marshall County boundary line. The western boundary of St. Patrick Parish in

Tama, Tama County, Iowa is changed to reflect this. 4. On the West: Jessup Avenue through Logan, Washington, and Marietta Townships then the western

It may strike us as odd, that when establishing the new parish of St. Francis of Assisi, we would go through the detail of saying where a parish begins and ends. Why does it matter? In our first reading this weekend, God gives Moses and the Israelites a specific Promised Land. He doesn't declare them masters of the universe but stewards entrusted with a particular geographic location. As baptized Catholics we are also stewards of a geographical area entrusted to us: St. Francis of Assisi parish. This is a great reminder and challenge for us to reflect on how are we communally and individually spreading the Good News of Jesus? Do you realize, like Moses, that the place where you stand is holy ground?

Puede que nos parezca extraño que al establecer la nueva parroquia de San Francisco de Asís, pasemos por el detalle de decir dónde la parroquia comienza y dónde termina. ¿Por qué será eso importa?
