Block-in light & shadow

Then start painting on canvas or a fresh piece of paper

The painting doesn’t have to follow the sketch

What’s the procedure?

Paint from thin to thick, allow each layer to dry, block in the whole composition

4 colors mixed to make a variety of colorful grays:Black, white, (any) brown + (any) blueMixed together

1. Underpainting:Use black, white, brown and blue to do a “limited palette” panting.

2. Then use full-color on top of the first layer.
