Language Note

①It’s five to ten. The pattern “差……（分）……点 (chà……fēn……diǎn)” is frequently used in telling time. ②上周 (shàng zhōu) means last week. And next week is “下周(xià zhōu)”。

John: Hello, nice to meet you. 李美美：认识你我也很高兴。

Li Meimei: Nice to meet you too. 麦克：美美，你现在有时间吗?带约翰熟悉一下公司环境。

Mike: Meimei, have you got a moment now? Could you give John a tour about our company? 李美美：好的。

Li Meimei: Ok (sure). 李美美：约翰，你现在在中国工作吗？

Li Meimei: John, are you working in china now? 约翰：不，我在美国读大学。去年①夏天去过②中国。

John: No, I study in university in America. I went to China last summer. 李美美：那你去过哪儿？

Li Meimei: Where have you been in China? 约翰：我去过上海、成都还有香港。我最喜欢成都。

John: I have been to Shanghai, Chengdu and Hongkong. I like Chengdu best. 李美美：为什么呀？

Li Meimei: Why? 约翰：因为我喜欢吃川菜③。

John: Because I like Sichuan style cuisine.

Language Notes

①去年 (qù nián)means last year and next year is “明年(míng nián)”。

②“过guò” is often put after a verb to show a past tense. ③川菜(chuān cài )means Sichuan style cuisine. It is famous for spicy flavor. Kongpao chicken and Mapo toufu are famous dishes in this style. Key Sentences
