Cadru geologic
Formatiunea de Corus este localizata in partea de sud a municipiului
Cluj-Napoca, in padurea Faget. Aceasta reprezinta un eveniment transgresiv
important alcatuit predominant din arenite, depus dupa un episod dominant argilos.
Varsta aproximativa a stratelor este de 26 Ma, ceea ce le plaseaza in Oligocenul
superior. Stratele de Corus sunt dispuse transgresiv peste stratele de Cetatuia si
stratele de Ticu. Inaltimea stratelor in afloriment este de aproximativ 20 de m iar din
punct de vedere litologic sunt putin diferite fata de stratele de la Corus. Nisipurile
metalurgice sunt mai fine, de culoare galben - ruginiu cu vargaturi rosii - violacee, iar
in partea mediana prezinta pete albastrui - verzui.

Metode de Analiză
Probele din afloriment au suferit o serie de prelucrari in laborator, pentru
o analiza mai detaliata. Acestea au fost initial uscate in etuva timp de 10 ore la
105o C din fiecare proba cate 200g. Dupa uscare, acestea au fost fierte intre 2 si 5
ore, racite, sitate si spalate in sita de 125 μm, (pe sita de 63μm nu s-a cernut
suficient material), dupa care au fost uscate din nou, de data aceasta la 110o C timp
de 22 ore. Probele rezultate au fost apoi analizate la lupa binoculara pentru
eventuale foraminifere, ostracode, si altele. Pozele la lupa binoculara au fost toate
efectuate cu obiectivul de 4X. Au reiesit:

Fauna de moluste din depozitele psefito- psamitice ale stratelor de Corus este reprezentata de biotipuri eulitorale si sublitorale de ape marine tropicale sau subtropicale cu salinitate normal (Meszaros, 1976, Pe poteci cu banutei de piatra).
Din bogatia de taxoni putem enumera: Chlamis gigas (SCHLOTH), Chlamis holgeri (Geinitz), Pecten pseudo- beudanti (DEP & ROM), Laevicardium kubecki (HAUER), Rudicardium grande (HOLTZL), Discops spondyloiddes (HAUER), Gllycymeris fichteli (DESH), Pitar schafferi (KAUTS), Anodora fichteli (DESH), Thracia pubesceus (PULT), Turittella turris (BAST), Turittella terebralis (LMK), Natica epiglotina (SCHFF).

Formatiunea de Corus este considerata drept reper pentru delimitarea termenilor neogeni de cei paleogeni din Bazinul Transilvaniei
(Meszaros, 1976, Pe poteci cu banutei de piatra).

In cadrul formatiunii de Corus a fost intalnita atat o fauna de moluste foarte
diversificata cat si de foraminifere.
Stratele de Corus reprezinta un episod transgresiv dispus deasupra stratelor
de Cetatuia si Ticu.
Fauna de moluste indica un paleomediu tropical- subtropical cu ape marine
cu salinitate normala.
Multitudinea de taxoni precum si caracteristicile acestora ne indica faptul ca
depozitele au fost situatea pe shelf sau chiar pe marginea tarmului.
Formatiunea de Corus cuprinde limita dintre Miocen si Pliocen si implicit
dintre Paleogen si Neogen.
Reprezinta un eveniment transgresiv important alcatuit predominant din
arenite, depus dupa un episod dominant argilos.
