Women were considered to be “the weaker

vessel in both body and mind.” Women manipulated their born roles in order

to fulfill their own aspirations and goals.

Women's Role

The community leaders were male and they

readily accepted the supposed inferiority of women.

It is this belief that made men react harshly or ashamedly to women who openly objected to this gender role.

Men’s roles in Puritan society

The husbands of all wives was

absent or away almost all of the time, so the women had a lot of work. They make their own clothes for themselves and for their children, they cooked everything, they cleaned the house, they taught their children how to read and write and even more. Overall, women spent 20+ years of pregnancy & nursing

The Puritans were a varied group of religious

reformers who emerged within the Church of England during the middle of the sixteenth century.
