Happy Mothers’ Day! Mother’s Day encour-ages a lot of ‘sentimentality’ about mothers. The real story is that mothers (and fathers) in the face of many challenges hold our families to-gether, teach our youngsters how to be adults, and bring our young people into friendship with God. Every year I reread this story, The

Meanest Mother in The World by Bobbie Pingaro, just to remember what really is hap-pening in homes throughout Roslindale. Here is just a little taste of the article. While other kids ate candy for breakfast, I had to have cere-al, eggs or toast. When others had cokes and candy

for lunch, I had to eat a sandwich. As you can guess, my supper was different than the other kids' also. But at least, I wasn't alone in my sufferings. My sister and two brothers had the same mean mother as I did. “

FIRST COMMUNION WEEKEND. Do you recall your first communion? What church did it happen at? Any pictures? Who was there? Remembering brings alive that God is so pre-sent to us each week at mass. Pray for these young people just starting out on the road of faith. May God bless them and watch over them.

The Seventh Sunday of Easter Today’s gospel is the close of Jesus’s final discourse to his Apostles which began in chapter 14. These are among the most touching and in-spiring words of Scripture. Jesus pours out his heart, giving instructions and encouragement to his closest friends. Directing His words to His Father, Jesus prays: “And I have given them the glory you gave me, so that they may be one, as we are one, I in them and you in me…” We pray for unity among Christians, but today, pray for unity within our own Catholic Church and with-in our parishes. Let Jesus’ word inspire us to be bridge builders, right here, right now.

VII DOMINGO de PASCUA 1ra. lectura: (Hechos 7, 55-60) Esteban, el primer mártir, sigue los pasos de Cristo y muere perdonando. 2da. Lectura: (Ap. 22, 12-14. 16-17. 20) Jesús, el primero y el ultimo, promete volver para dar vida a los que le fue-ron fiel. Evangelio: (Juan 17, 20-26) Jesús reza por sus discípulos, pasado, presente y futuro para que sean unidos a el y lle-guen a estar con él en el cielo. Hoy asistimos a este diálogo tan encendido y entra-ñable entre Jesús y su Padre, en el que todo cristiano queda implicado. Es parte de la "oración sacerdotal de Jesús". Jesús, que es Dios, habla con Su Padre-Dios; Jesús, que es Hombre, alza los ojos al cielo. ¡Cuánta necesidad tenemos de alzar los ojos al cielo! «No ruego sólo por éstos, sino también por aquellos que, por medio de su palabra, creerán en mi»(Jn.17,20)ahí estamos nosotros, los cristianos de todos los tiempos a quienes nos ha alcanzado su Palabra, transmitida de generación en generación. Sí, Jesús ha "abierto" el Corazón de Dios, nos ha re-velado su intimidad y nos la ha confiado en su Pala-bra. Ésta, cabalgando en la fe siglo tras siglo, ha lle-gado hasta nosotros. El camino es largo, pero Jesús reza para que el viaje de su Palabra termine en nues-tros corazones y nos resulte "conocida". Además, intercede especialmente por Simón Pedro y sus suce-sores para que confirmen en la fe a sus hermanos (cf. Lc 22,32). Así podemos entrar en el Amor "intra-trinitario". Al Señor le preocupa especialmente nuestra unidad, que seamos "uno": «Que sean uno como nosotros somos uno» (Jn 17,22). Si no, ¿cómo podría el mun-do conocer al Dios-Amor?; «¿cómo podremos ser plenamente creíbles si nos presentamos dividi-dos?» (Juan Pablo II). El amor testimoniado es un poderoso argumento para convencer al mundo. Pero el amor une y, en consecuencia, la división no es un signo de amor. Dios no está dividido; Él no así. Consideremos la actitud de la primera comunidad cristiana: el día de Pentecostés «todos ellos perseve-raban unánimes en la oración, junto con algunas mu-jeres y con María, la Madre de Jesús, y sus herma-nos» (Hch. 1,14). En ese ambiente el Espíritu Santo irrumpió impetuosamente y el mundo quedó perplejo (cf. Hch. 2,6).
